Does anyone still have probs gaming? I'm still having the crummy blank screens even after a clean install of catalyst 8.8.. twice! meh!! Help me please.
*
Hi Desmond,

Without checking your whole rig, blank screen are normally cause by: incorrect/unstable drivers, insufficient power, unstable OS, clashing apps and lastly the GC.

When does it happen, only with certain games/apps or constantly? If only with certain games/apps, it could be software issue.
This happen after you have installed 8.8 or even with earlier Catalyst, 8.7, 8.6 etc?

Suggest you put your GC through the whole 3DMark06 tests and see if any problems? Please update or PM us if you need any assitance. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. notworthy.gif

Wow. I'm quite unlucky. Meh.

Hi Desmond,

That's why we suggest you put the GC thru 3DMark06 or Vantage to rule out GC faulty (not 100% accurate but at least something).

Also, take a look at what Celciuz (another proud Gainward 4850 GS user) said:
"Some update on my Gainward 4850 Golden Sample, wasn't the driver problem... Instead was my DirectX. I reinstalled with the June 2008 redistributable and everything was working fine. Phew lucky thing not hardware problem else ."

Bro Zhen Wei,

U sure or not? Read here http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/746229/+1620 you said you also got problems of blank screen with CCC 8.8 hmm.gif

U getting old or wat, dun remember wat u said? brows.gif

*
Hi Desmond,

Thanks for the detail description of your problem. From your feedbacks, it looks like your card is faulty. blush.gif

If you are not from KL/Selangor, please try to do few more things before you send the card back:

1. Plug in the card and try (games + 3DMark06) on another system with similiar OS and sufficient PSU.

2. Have you clean out the CCC folder completely since you are testing between 8.6, 8.7 and 8.8? Use this http://www.ccleaner.com/ to make sure your Registry is really clean before any installation of CCC.

3. Once you confirm your CCC folder is empty, install 8.7 again, and try 3DMark06 all tests. Then delete, clean 8.7, install 8.8 and try again (games + 3DMark06).

If problems keep appearing after doing all the above, most likely your card is faulty. Please send it back to us for RMA (see our address on website below). This is the first case of RMA for our 4850 (all models), so sorry for any inconvenience caused. blush.gif

Take your time for final tests, let us know once done. Thanks. notworthy.gif

Will definitely do so. Sigh, if faulty card.. more courier fees! UGHHHH! Spent RM101 on courier fees d. I will be so pissed.
Hi Desmond,

We are so sorry about it. As a simple gesture of apology, we will give you one FREE Digisound MP3 player if confirm your card is really faulty. We will send the Digisound MP3 player together with your return card. notworthy.gif

Just to share, one of our 9600GT-1GB GS user had "intermittent" problems and so we exchanged another pcs for him. We then test his card thoroughly on our rig but found no problems. The replacement card works fine on his rig. We sold his earlier card and till now no issues. So sometimes it not easy to confirm if really GC faulty.

Feel free to read more from his blog here: http://karhoe.net/content/view/106/5/

Thanks Netraid for your efficiency. Was going to PM you smile.gif How long will the RMA take?

Added on August 28, 2008, 2:32 pmI'll most probably give a full report by this Friday night/Saturday afternoon/evening about those 3 tasks above. Was thinking of finalizing my problems once more on CCC 8.7 and CCC 8.8 versions. Thanks Netraid, will have to do my work now. Exams and assignment due tmrow.
*
You are welcome, and it's our responsibility to ensure customers satisfaction. Don't worry, we have stock to swap one-to-one for you, but since you are the first case of possible 4850 faulty, please give us 2-3 days to test your card. I've PM you my contact.

Please focus on your exams first. All the best. PM me once you done the tests. Once again, thanks for your cooperation and sorry for the problems. icon_rolleyes.gif

Unable to tell at this moment. Our Gainward 4870 GS will be here next week, so it will take about 1 month for people to report in with scores. Many people (dealers and users) told us that Gainward Golden Sample models offer the best price/performance ratio. So big thanks to you all. notworthy.gif

PowerColor we dunno when will come, please ask the local distro. sweat.gif

We do have comparison with HIS Turbo and Sapphire Toxic for our 4850 Golden Sample (see links below).

Hope that helps. icon_rolleyes.gif

Ok here's an update on my Gainward 4850 GS:

COD4 and FIFA08 both ran OK.

BTW I have not tested the card on another PC. May get to do so by Monday or Tuesday. Netraid, feedback please.
Hi Desmond,

Thanks for making the effort to test your card thoroughly. So sorry for all the trouble.

Based on your feedbacks, despite the failure of 3DMark06 and some games, the fact that it works fine with COD4 and FIFA08 (both 8.7 and 8.8) is inconsistent with a faulty card. From our experience, if card faulty, then almost ALL games/apps/OS would fail (blank screen, funny characters/lines, hanged etc). But in your case, only certain games buggy, certain games fine.

To make things simple, just test it on another PC or get another card (preferable ATI) to test it on your PC. If not possible, then please send it back to us. But before we exchange a new card for you, we need to test yours first, mainly because it doesn't look like a faulty card. This will take just 2-3 days.

Let us know your decision. If anything unsure, please PM me.

Thanks. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hey guys,

For those who dunno, here's a helpful software for all 4850 and 4870 users: Gainward EXPERToolâ„¢ 4.0 for 4850 and 4870.

This software allows you to control your 4850 or 4870 fan without CCC or BIOS Mod, and overclock your core/mem/shader easily.

More details and download here: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/779908

Free your 4850 and 4870 from extreme heat! icon_idea.gif

Wishing everyone Merdeka and Happy Holidays! icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyone using Gainward 4850GS and have the same problem as Desmond1310? PC crashes on certain games etc?

I was wonder whether is the heat since the card got no heatsink on RAM and VRM. I hope it is software related issue and not the card because I'm planning to get the GS soon.
*
Hi Lotiman,

Please don't worry. We've sold hundreds of Gainward 4850 till date (thanks everyone) and Desmond1310 is our first case of "suspected" card faulty.

We are just waiting for him to finish testing. It does look like a faulty card, not heat or temp problems. blush.gif

If you need any more info, please PM us. Thanks. icon_rolleyes.gif

i've installed it and was wondering if i still need the CCC 8.8?
or just leave both on?
zzz .. blur
Hi there,

I'm not sure I understand you but Expertool is a software to help you manage performance, fan & temp better without BIOS mod. You still need the ATI driver CCC. Keep both.

QUOTE(ivanchin99 @ Sep 1 2008, 03:03 PM)
modifying bios - always a chance of bricking your card beyond reflashing back to ori bios = warranty void

plus withmodded bios, wont work with catalyst 8.8 and potentially future version of catalyst as well
Right on bro,

That is why Gainward wrote and launched EXPERToolâ„¢ 4.0 for 4850 and 4870. You can modify your core, mem, shader, fan etc on the fly to suits your needs at that moment. No tedious and risky BIOS mod, useful esp for newbies. icon_idea.gif

i wonder if it has anything 2 do wit no ram sink?

wats ur temperature of ur PCB on the bck of the card?
Hey tech3910,

Please do not generalize. So far what we have is:

1. Celciuz - some problems with DirectX driver, already solved.
2. Desmond1310 - card faulty, waiting for RMA.

Desmond1310 posted many times so it may seems like a lot of issues, because he tested it thoroughly. If you are aware of anyone else, do let us know. Of the hundreds we sold, Desmond1310 is our first and only case at the moment.

Please don't create statement that might confuse or frighten others. Thank you. icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks for all the suggestions and feedbacks guys. notworthy.gif

kaiser_falco, we didn't start a new thread because:

1. We don't want to take up space for overlapping topics and issues.

2. There are many people asking on 4850 everywhere in this forum, I address those related to Gainward and in general if we can help. Also to minimize double posting.

3. We will like to keep people updated on the latest models/specs/pics of Gainward, as compare to other brands. This is best done here.

Once again, thanks guys. icon_rolleyes.gif

now im currently using 450W psu... sobs.. =(
Hi Raymone,

Can you tell me the brand/make/model of your PSU? I'll try to check and confirm for you.

According to Moderno, if 450W real/true power with 75% onwards efficiency it should be able to power up the Gainward 4850 GS. But please be wary of your PC setup. Perhaps list your PC specs here so that everyone can help you and share their experience.

Try to call Moderno for advice, he can be reach at http://www.modernopc.com/store/index.php?m...page=contact_us
They have sold many Gainward 4850 GS and they also sell PSU.

Thank you for considering Gainward. notworthy.gif

*
Hi Lacus,

Sorry for this late reply. We want to be sure.

1. Generally, highest speed you get when CF will be 1.8x than single card.

2. It's best to crossfire using the same brand.

3. You may use Gainward 4850 GS to crossfire with any reference cards. Non-reference cards from different brands NOT recommended.

Hope that helps. Thanks.

In comparison to Gainward 4850GS, they lose on 2 main things:

1. Performance. See here: http://www.netraid.com.my/Gainward-4850-Go...-4850-Toxic.pdf

2. Price. Sapphire 4850 Toxic should be around RM740. Pls check around Display Cards section.

BTW, Gainward 4650 and 4670 will be here soon, pics and specs will be posted here.

YES, Silverstone 560W can support 4850 GS.

Look inside your PC, if you have 2 empty slots including the PCI-E slot, then can use dual slot GC. Generally dual slot GC better than single slot, cooler. All the best.

Tested stable on 3DMark 01, 03, 05 and 06. Also tested stable on COD4, Crysis and FEAR.

Had a long meeting with ATI people today. The 4650 and 4670 series is targeted at NV 8600 and 9500 series. It's NOT meant to replace the 3850/3870.

ATI want to give customers a better price/performance choice at the RM300 range. Therefore, at the current pricing, 3850 and 3870 will now be an attractive buy over NV 9600 series. Gosh I hope NV don't see this post or they will really screw us. brows.gif

From your msg, it appears that you failed to notice all our posts.

We like to think we bring a fresh perspective to LYN, from a disty standpoint. Yes, we admit that we do product announcements and etc, but this is small in comparison with the information we share here.

Some of the things we have shared so far:

1. Latest news from both side of the divide: NVidia and ATI. Rundown of the latest models, previews, lab tests and scores before the appearance of the actual items.

2. News and facts direct from principals as opposed to hearsay, unreliable sites, opinions and etc. (eg, see the post above)

3. Comparisons with verified data as opposed to hearsay, unreliable sites, opinions and etc. Answering queries with verified and reliable sources, being a disty for both NV and ATI.

4. NV and ATI roadmaps (as much as we can reveal lar) for the benefits for existing users, users considering upgrades and new users planning to purchase. We help them make decisions based on facts and real data.

In fact, we dare say there has never been any disty who take such an active part in a discussion, and we are pleased that some people thanked us for dispelling certain myths and rumors here that were being peddled as facts. Also to help certain users making a right decision. So to those who appreciate our presence and info we share, we thank you very much. notworthy.gif

If you have time to look through this whole thread, you will see that we refrain from frivolous talks and we only comments when necessary: sharing facts, correcting wrong info, answering queries, announcing new items, helping comparisons with verified data and etc.

If you think non of the above has any value, then may I ask what have you "contributed" to this thread?
