Try scooping from the side with some woodchips if you are scared. If not, use a spoon to scoop the hedgehog out. Then put that fella onto your hand. The fella might roll into a ball but let him get used to your hand smell. Mine still spikes when I try to pick him up at first. So don't worry, it's normal. Another thing is try to play with him say at night. Do not kacau him in the afternoon. He'll be active and will accept you easier in the night.

LOL~ rclxms.gif I'll try it out tonight. Btw, usually my bed time he just came out eat. After eat then go back sleep again.

@ meiixiin :
Erm, I've never fed them with mealies before, I didn't know you've already bought mealies so early. But Maybe you can keep for later. If you want it to try, break the mealworm, let it try it's juice.

From my own opinion, I refrain from giving young animals live food, just afraid that the live food dirty or anything. Scare young animals immune system not so strong.

Don't have to be scare when handling it. Like any other animals, when they attempt to scare you and you withdraw, this shows that you're afraid of them, so whenever you want to touch him, he'll try to scare you off. If keep spike and poke around. Put your hand infront of him first, let him smell and relax abit then only handle him.

Don't worry, two days is still early for both of you to know each other.

@ yvonne0624 :
Depends on types of mites, some mites are so minute you might not be able to see it with your naked eyes. And mites don't usually bite ppl, cause we are not furry enough. biggrin.gif

If you're sure that the hedgehog is the culprit, I suggest you seek medical help from both the vet and your doctor. Cause if not the mites, your family might have allegic or something? Hedgehog like other animals (especially exotics) carries disease, just that the disease is not dangerous enough to harm us. But precaution should be taken for young children.

In fact, the mealies I bought is for my hammie. Because I also think Yoko is still young. And I'll slowly let him try in 1 month later. Btw, my hammie love to eat mealies so much~ LOL! Hope Yoko too~

Hey ya Alex, finally he accepted me in third day. So happy, just now I use the smelly clothes pick him out and put on my lap. And then I put near my finger to him, he used to lick it~ It so cute, but then a while later he biten my finger~ Pain! T_T After that I can put him on my hand and playing with him already. So cute, like a brush massage ball when I sayang him~ >"<

Great news fr meiixiin...Congratulations! Normally when I come back from work I'll wake my hedgie up. When I put the fella on my lap, the fella will sniff all over my clothes and starts licking it. I wonder why? Maybe it's because the fella smells left over perfume I applied earlier on?

Nope, u better change to 32 when grow bigger. They hav different nids on protein intake when they develop bigger.. RC 34 Contains higher protein than RC32.

Some owner feed those kibbles that contains lower protein when they realize the hedgie is getting fatter.. esp for those who never exercise using wheel. But so far, i think RC32 has the most average and moderate nutrients for adult hedgie (compare to other RC range).

Sorry to hear that, but i don really understand the whole story.

Is that u keeping the hedgie downstairs for some time, then the hedgie started to self mutilate after u shift it to upstairs? And u suspect is the temperature and lighting that causes him to do so?

maybe it happen during the afternoon, when i was out to work... at night it's not so hot anymore. down stair even outside is baking hot the temp won't drop much. but upstair goes up and down nearly as outside. and the lightning sound much more louder.

just want to let you guys know something like this might happen... my hedgehog is quite naughty since young, after pick it up... it will uncurl really fast and move around my hand.
