Nope, cannot internal decoding, an amp with lossless audio decoding is needed. It's brother, BD50 can, but not yet released, said to be this month.
The analogue outs can send out lossless, but only PCM (only 5.1), not DTS-HD MA/Dolby TrueHD. If it can't decode them, how can it convert them to analogue. |

QUOTE(songbo @ Jul 4 2008, 05:04 PM) But buying there you'll get proper warranty and stuffs. When Sony officially release here, it will be expenive too, I'm guessing around RM2k. Why Sony Malaysia haven't launch it here still baffles me. They put it in their Sony Styles but with a card saying "Not For Sale, Demonstration Purposes Only". |

Just the truth bro. Until now there is no player that can even beat PS3 for disc loading time. And there are a lot more advantage than any current BD players right now.
I'm not a gamer, I also prefer standalone, one thing I'm longing is the bitstreaming capability (though not that big a deal actually). No doubt someday we'll see better and cheaper standalones in future, and I'll be the first to buy it. This post has been edited by aiman04: Jul 8 2008, 10:41 AM |

SACD boleh, but only for 80GB and 60GB (discontinued) versions. No support for DVD-Audio though. Those guys who purchase in Malaysia, the game shop brought it in unofficially from Singapore, Japan or US. So the warranty is based on which country it's originally from. |

Don't forget about the screen size vs viewing distance rule when you're considering 720p or 1080p.

QUOTE(htkaki @ Jul 18 2008, 08:22 AM) I think it is better for us to create the link and pin it as reference for others to view I've lost the link, but here's the chart:Luckily mine aint gigantic ![]() So, let's say for 80" screen size, you need to sit 16 feet or closer to see the 1080p benefit. Let me correct my earlier post, with your big screen, you can already see the benefit of full HD, so you guys better get a full HD projector. |

Most new AVRs now can decode DTS-HD Master Audio onboard. This S350 can bitstream it, so no worrries there (I actually prefer bitstreaming actually).
I would really consider this if I see reviews say that it load BDs faster than PS3, and retails at lower than RM2k locally (fat hope, maybe can get it from SG). QUOTE(g5sim @ Jul 20 2008, 07:21 AM) Is that from the S350 manual? It doesn't bitstream HBR audio? I thought I read somewhere that it does. Then I can't consider this model. Panasonic BD30 is still the best choice now. Now let's see how it compares between Sony S550 and Panasonic BD50. Added on July 20, 2008, 7:32 amBlu-ray.com is saying that it can bitstream HBR: http://www.blu-ray.com/players/players.php?id=62&show=specs This post has been edited by aiman04: Jul 20 2008, 07:32 AM |

Like bro Htkaki said, it's just a DVD9. The source could be BD, ripped and then burned as DVD format. The resolution will still be 480p, no matter what. It may look nicer then other DVDs, more colourful, little bit sharper. But that's it, you're actually losing a lot of data, so you're losing the details.
About PS3, you asked that at at shops like HN, etc, right? If I'm the owner, when people come asking for a PS3 as BD player, would I encourage them to go buy it elsewhere because you don't have it? Of course, I would say bad things about it and ask them to by the standalone BD players in my shop instead. Lens breaking down on PS3 is quite rare actually. I think every optical player have the risk of lens failure. If you give good care and play BDs normally, there's nothing to worry about. Avoid playing DVDs. Getting from A to B on BD is easier than on DVD, the motor and lens have to move faster on DVD. I never play DVDs on my PS3, a dedicated upscaling DVD player for that (existing). |

We all know what DTS core is lah.. We've been hearing that from DTS-HD MA tracks on PS3 since before firmware 2.35. Nothing new to us.
This simply means the S350 CANNOT BITSTREAM DTS-HD MA (if the manual says so). Whether it bitstream DTS core or not is irrelevant. So the best choice right now still Panasonic DMP-BD30. |

Most new players now can bitstream HBR audio. So the most worrying thing is the disc loading time. If they can even match PS3's, then I will be seriously consider a standalone. But then, I only will buy it it costs lower than RM2k.
PS: How can RM2030 is cheaper than PS3? |

I think 90% of BD supporters here uses PS3 as the player. At least for now.
