Rabbits + Guinea Pigs, the moment they eat, they pee + poo, their digestive system is not like dogs / cats. So meaning, a dog or a cat might pee / poo say 3 times a day, rabbits / guinea pigs, keep on pee + poo continuously.

n_n,
Please go to rabbit threat page 1 for diet information. Woody Pet RM20++ can last around 1/2 to 1 month depending on how much you use. Normally if your rabbit is toilet trained and u use a litter tray then don't need so much of woody pet. jason86, Young rabbit below 6 months should not be given fresh vege. Please google for Woody Pet for photos. White Palace, I do not agree with what you say. Rabbit do not pee while they eat. Poo maybe but they can be litter trained to poo at 1 spot. So I do not think food goes straight from mouth and out of anus at one go as the food must be process first. Sigh.... spoon feeding..... Guinea pig care can be found in the GP Thread.... rabbit care in the Rabbit Thread.... is it that hard to research?
Anyway, is your bed room that big to house a rabbit or guinea pig properly? Coz they do need space.... and their pee..... if kept in a room, it would stink up. How about your health? You also have to think about the place..... they allow pets? If you get caught and ask you to either move out or give your pets away, which would you do? Sorry to be so direct but then I have seen many students jump into getting a pet before really thinking about the consequences. Some are great pet owners, some dump them in the end..... excuses are management don't let, house mate hate pets, poo and pee too stinky..... alot of excuses. Both rabbits and guinea pigs are not easy to upkeep in a small room, and food and bedding..... and the smell? |

Both GP and Rabbit threads have informative 1st pages..... with your attitude like this, how to be a pet keeper? Just coz we don't have faith in you then you wanna close the thread?
People here advising you but you turn the wrong way. When someone is a bit hard on you then you leave..... sigh.... then how to keep a pet? Quite a number of people here are students, even me. Before I get a pet, I Goggle information, then I join forums to read what they have posted, all the infos that are mentioned in caresheets.... if you are determined to have a pet, you won't give up so easily. Anyway, my previous post was to see how well you can cope with a pet in such conditions.... but you failed to answer properly. |

Ok, so you are a caring person.... but are you living in an area which allows pets? Coz I did have friends who have to give up their pets just because management chase them out..... My point is you have to make sure you can have a pet. Don't just say to keep you company, you also must consider the welfare of the rabbit or guinea pig.I am sorry but i really want to rear a bunny. Plastic container? If you are saying storage box.... NO.... never big enough. For a rabbit or guinea pig, they need big cages to be happy and comfortable. ZooZone2 is like RM140.... 3ft, which is like minimum for indoor keeping. You would be needing to clean the bedding every 2 to 3 days because of their pee. |

A rabbit is easier to have because they can be litter trained..... but for indoor keeping, best is zoozone2 cage and yes, it is about Rm140. If you get normal cages, there is a possibility of pee and poo getting out of your cage or leak at the bottom.
Keeping a pet is never cheap. Must think about cages, hay, pellets, fresh food..... did you have all that in mind? |

QUOTE(n_n @ Jul 3 2008, 08:33 PM) cz i plan to take my bunny out to roam around the room..if you did say that they need to run around.. but 100=..too much bah? Beware though if you plan on letting your rabbit roam around the room.Rabbits love to chew everything in sight. I've had my rabbits accidentally chewing on a power cord before until exposed the live wire, almost chewed the live wire. They can be very destructive. And a plastic container is definitely not suitable, unless you rig the container. You cannot keep a rabbit like you keep a hamster. You can;t put the bedding and let the rabbit sit on the bedding, its not hygienic and when the rabbit pees and the bedding gets wet (before it dries up), the rabbit will be uncomfortable and stressed. Believe me as I have kept a paralyzed rabbit for a short while, it is a full-time dedication to keep the rabbit dry. And a damp rabbit can get quite smelly. And think about your own personal hygiene as well... if you really want a rabbit, talk to your housemates and see if they are open to the idea of having a rabbit in the living room instead of keeping it in your room, and get a proper cage. Also you have to consider, the rabbit may be small when young but when it gets bigger you need a bigger cage for it. And an improper cage e.g. plastic container, the rabbit will just jump out and run away. This post has been edited by djspinnet: Jul 3 2008, 08:42 PM |

You have to research on the breed of rabbits that is available in the market to know their sizes. There are many breeds in the entire world combined. In Malaysia only a few. Please go do your research.

IMHO, a rabbit won't be suitable for your room.
1. room is too small a place for a rabbit. 2. the destruction caused by a rabbit in a small room.. imagine one day you come back from class finding your notes shredded up, bed linens ripped apart, and worse still the rabbit eat your wires and then you end up seeing a dead bunny O_O 3. the smell accumulated in a small room can be quite disasterous, what if one day you brought a girl/guy to your room then 'OMFG what's that smell??' you'll blow your chance of ever getting a gf/bf lol. 4. cost, cages + accessories + food are pretty expensive, especially for a student. 5. so many other reasons as stated above.. you said you have a hamster, how come you're not keeping that hamster with you then? isn't 1 hamster enough to keep you company? |
