What I'm actually asking is whether is it harmful to feed 1 tablespoon in 1 shot since my hamster is unable to finish, so my question is, would the remainder go bad in the cage?

One more thing, is it okay to feed the Smoothie before letting it de-frost?
*
it's totally up to ur own judgement whether u want to feed it in one shot or separate into 2 times.. if ur hamster is not a big eater, then better separate to 2 times, or more, dependind on how much it eats per time..

u can put it in their food bowl and serve to them while still frozen, it will melt quite fast.. i heard it's ok for adults to feed on cold food, but not for babies.. not too sure about this..

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 27 2008, 07:04 PM)
I just came back from Midvalley's Pet Wonderland. Their Chipsi classic has become RM 25 instead of the initial RM 21. Along with a string of other products.

Their syrians are priced at RM 35 although I don't see anything special plus many many injured hammies...There was one RC with a very bad eye infection. Still got this girl point at it and say "cutenya!"

Damn speechless.

BTW Roche's dipping habits have gone to a new level. She has created dry food dipped in smoothie and also mealworm dipped in smoothie in the past. Today she created doggie chew sticks in smoothie. sweat.gif
*
i saw the syrians too few weeks ago.. the syrians are even more expensive than the dwarfs, which is abnormal doh.gif
i also saw a gerbil with the tail 'missing' and a wound at that tail part.. guess some staff pulled it by the tail.. and it was still for sale.. shakehead.gif shakehead.gif

tat's y i dislike mid valley pet shop.. they got so much money y dun wan send the staff for training? even my bf knows more bout hamsters than some of them do doh.gif

ohh... well, don't give up yet. try your best to find them, any possible place you think they might get to, but i guess they'll find somewhere dark or wherever they can reach. don't won't go out of the door as they don't really like sunlight. try to find where is shade and dry. if your robos are tamed they should come to you when you call right?? correct me if i'm wrong, this happened to my syrians last time when he got lost.. wish you luck!!
*
hmmm, my experience with a runaway robo is not like ur syrian le.. i run to the left, the robo run to the right.. very very difficult to catch back even after spotted the robo..

so tina_yess, i suggest u get some ppl to find with u.. cos robo is very small, very hard to notice.. close all holes like ur toilet floor hole, in case it drop inside.. close all doors while searching, so that it doesnt escape to another room & make ur search even more difficult..

robo and RC ar.. hmmm... i dun think can cross breed lar.. one is so big, one so small.. if got also, will produce cacat pups or the babies die in womb.. the fella lie 1 maybe?

imagine if pair a female robo + male RC, i dun think the RC is able to chase her all around the cage, cos robos run so so fast.. also robos are hard to breed, they're very very choosy of their mates.. even if breed, the babies will die in the mother's womb, and the mother may die too, cos the babies are so BIG..

if it's a male robo + female RC, alamak! i think he'll do worse than Nezu's boyboy.. the male is half the female's size.. laugh.gif

Where got sell alot of roborowsky hamster ? i want alot of choices one as in the shop has lot of stock so i can choose really cute one...btw, what u guys think if i plan to only get 1 roborowsky and not a pair cz i wanna put in my room and if 2 then my room will be smelly...and if i buy a square aquarium to rare them will it be too cruel ? i have cages but its almost the size of the square aquarium i wanna buy cz the size of my room is limited and i dont want my mom to nag me to put the hamster in my room...wat u guys think...
*
hie,

get at least 2 robos.. since robos are social hamsters, they prefer to stay in pairs or groups (sngle sex i mean).. and don't worry about the pee being smelly.. robos pee very little.. cos they drink little.. the Pet Shop in Sunway has taken in new stock of hamsters, there are robos too.. if u want an aquarium/guppy tank, get at least 1.5ft and above.. it wont be cruel, it's the best housing for hamsters..

QUOTE(Waachaaa @ Jul 1 2008, 09:52 AM)
Hi Guys,

Im new here and probably have a few noob question on hamster. Hope you guys can clear my doubts.

Q1. Is Syrian hamster the chubbiest, fattest looking hamster among the 5 species? If not which species is that?

Q2. Correct me if im wrong, i read on the 1st page stating 2 Syrian hamster shall not be placed in the same cage. But i was wondering how come those petshop able to place groups of the same species under the same cage?

Q3. How much lifespan is an average Hamster? Or they varies between species?

Q4. I still have doubts placing a SINGLE Syrian hamster in a cage will not bored it to death. I always thought the more the merrier.
Thx
*
1. in terms of size, Syrians are the biggest.. other species are dwarfs, namely the Winter White, Russian Campbell, and Roborovskii

2. There are many reasons for this.. Syrian's solitary instinct does not appear till a certain age (Syrian pro pls confirm how many months).. Those syrians u see in pet shops are babies, that's y they can tolerate living with each other.. And note that i say ''tolerate'', cos they don't enjoy it at all.. If u observe closely, u'll see injured Syrians in petshop tanks, some dead too.. Besides, hamsters are active at night, so obviously u wont see them fighting when u visit the petshop during the day.. Another reason is, those Syrians are sooo packed & crowded that they feel too stressed to fight over territory..

3. 1.5yrs to 2.5 yrs (depending on many factors ie. diet, health, etc).. but Robos can live up to 4 yrs..

4. Think about it this way.. Syrians wants their OWN territory.. as long as there's another hamster together with it, it wont feel happy at all.. that's y we say that Syrians are territorial..

Thanks Jamien and nezumitaro

Is it good to raise hamster in small aqua container?
because i'm just want to raise on in my room.

i'm new btw. thanks for advice
*
MINIMUM is 1ft tank for dwarfs, and 1.5ft for Syrians.. and this minimum is not so good lah.. we recommend u to use 1.5ft tank for dwarf hamsters and 2ft tank for Syrians.. floor space is VERY important for hamsters, not height.. so don't need to get those cages that are very tall but have minimal floor space..

QUOTE(Hunz @ Jul 1 2008, 03:28 PM)
I'm not so sure the size.
If put at room gonna be noisy at night?

if room too hot also no good for it?
*
hot of cos not good lah.. if too hot, we humans also can faint le.. hamsters are so small, they cant take it as much as we can.. get a good Silent Wheel, then don't have that ekk ekk sound when they run the wheel.. also if u get more than 1 hamsters, sure gonna be noisy de..

QUOTE(sOuLx @ Jul 1 2008, 03:40 PM)
you are in a situation like me.
i'm currently studying in IPTA in gombak.
but my hometown is in Terengganu which is 6-7 hours driving time.
i have a syrian, and 2 gerbils with me. during vacation, i ask my friend who is not going back to his hometown to take care of pets. luckily we dont have long vacation. the longest vacation i have is around 2 weeks ++ only.
i ask my friend to feed my pet, change the drinking water and change the bedding after a week.
but my syrian wont get any fresh food during that time coz my friend cant go an buy vege everyday like me. laugh.gif
coz we dont have fridge in our hostel to keep the vege fresh. lol

i'm not sure if anyone is doing petboarding for small animal.
*
shayne does petboarding.. go ask her..

how am i gonna water them?
*
get at least 1.5ft tank ya.. don't get those for small fish 1..
for their water, get a hamster water bottle, fill it with water, and hang at the corner of the tank.. of if u want, u can drill/burn a hole in the tank for the water bottle's spout

Hey everyone, long time never post in the ham thread. Just to heads up on Delikate's Drinker bottles. I just got a cage from a friend and the drinker bottle was rusting! From the inside and outside. Do be careful when buying all these stuff for food and water.

Don't buy delikate bottles as apparently their spouts are not stainless steel so it can be poisonous due to the rust. Over and out.
*
hi Reanne, so long never appear dy.. but i guess u gonna disappear again sweat.gif
thanks for the info though! biggrin.gif

I don't really have the dimensions for a 2 feet tank but it is enough space for 1 syrian.

If you want bigger then you need to decide on the zoozone 1 or the biggest is zoozone 2 (3 feet tank).

I would recommend a zoozone1 as it is more than enough for 1 syrian. Me and sangels have zoozone2 for our syrian JackJack. It's huge! sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif
*
i've seen the ZooZone2.. it was crazy huge! what makes u buy such a big enclosure ar? hehe..

well, 2ft tank is 2ft in length lo..

there could be many reasons y a female hamster would bite.. first, it could be an RC.. or, it's pregnant..

ok, i've decided to go with jtl's rm180 starter kit, thanks for the recommendation and advice guys thumbup.gif

oh yea, i'm thinking of buying bathing sand too, should i buy a container or something for the sand? unsure.gif

also, how do you actually train a hamster to use a litter pan? unsure.gif
http://www.petshack.com.my/webshaper/store...ProductItem=389
*
ya u can buy a container for the sand, or u can buy a bathroom for hamsters, fill with bathing sand & put inside ur tank..

to litter train, first u gotta get litter sand.. usually some hamsters will automatically pee there.. but some may not, so u have to take the bedding with their pee & place in the litter sand..
