Hi Guys,
Im new here and probably have a few noob question on hamster. Hope you guys can clear my doubts.
Q1. Is Syrian hamster the chubbiest, fattest looking hamster among the 5 species? If not which species is that?
Q2. Correct me if im wrong, i read on the 1st page stating 2 Syrian hamster shall not be placed in the same cage. But i was wondering how come those petshop able to place groups of the same species under the same cage?
Q3. How much lifespan is an average Hamster? Or they varies between species?
Q4. I still have doubts placing a SINGLE Syrian hamster in a cage will not bored it to death. I always thought the more the merrier.
Thx
1. in terms of size, Syrians are the biggest.. other species are dwarfs, namely the Winter White, Russian Campbell, and Roborovskii
2. There are many reasons for this.. Syrian's solitary instinct does not appear till a certain age (Syrian pro pls confirm how many months).. Those syrians u see in pet shops are babies, that's y they can tolerate living with each other.. And note that i say ''tolerate'', cos they don't enjoy it at all.. If u observe closely, u'll see injured Syrians in petshop tanks, some dead too.. Besides, hamsters are active at night, so obviously u wont see them fighting when u visit the petshop during the day.. Another reason is, those Syrians are sooo packed & crowded that they feel too stressed to fight over territory..
3. 1.5yrs to 2.5 yrs (depending on many factors ie. diet, health, etc).. but Robos can live up to 4 yrs..
4. Think about it this way.. Syrians wants their OWN territory.. as long as there's another hamster together with it, it wont feel happy at all.. that's y we say that Syrians are territorial..

Thanks Jamien and nezumitaro
Is it good to raise hamster in small aqua container?
because i'm just want to raise on in my room.
i'm new btw. thanks for advice
MINIMUM is 1ft tank for dwarfs, and 1.5ft for Syrians.. and this minimum is not so good lah.. we recommend u to use 1.5ft tank for dwarf hamsters and 2ft tank for Syrians.. floor space is VERY important for hamsters, not height.. so don't need to get those cages that are very tall but have minimal floor space..

I'm not so sure the size.
If put at room gonna be noisy at night?
if room too hot also no good for it?
hot of cos not good lah.. if too hot, we humans also can faint le.. hamsters are so small, they cant take it as much as we can.. get a good Silent Wheel, then don't have that ekk ekk sound when they run the wheel.. also if u get more than 1 hamsters, sure gonna be noisy de..

you are in a situation like me.
i'm currently studying in IPTA in gombak.
but my hometown is in Terengganu which is 6-7 hours driving time.
i have a syrian, and 2 gerbils with me. during vacation, i ask my friend who is not going back to his hometown to take care of pets. luckily we dont have long vacation. the longest vacation i have is around 2 weeks ++ only.
i ask my friend to feed my pet, change the drinking water and change the bedding after a week.
but my syrian wont get any fresh food during that time coz my friend cant go an buy vege everyday like me.

coz we dont have fridge in our hostel to keep the vege fresh. lol
i'm not sure if anyone is doing petboarding for small animal.
shayne does petboarding.. go ask her..
