for 1 day old babies, let's say if the mother does not want to take care of them, what can we do?

this particular hamster, she rejected her babies twice ady.. that's a total of 8 pups dead.. she should be a naturally bad mum cos she will sleep beside the pups but will not let them go under her
this is really an eye opener for me.. i wont breed her again.. poor babies

@tina, should have bought same sex partner loh.. but what's done cannot be undone lah.. wish the best for both mum & babies..

hmm, if u want to breed, better breed when the female is 4 months & above.. cos how if they breed now, and Ivory's health deteriorate & die young? when it's 4 months time, Ivory sure can accept Ebony as her mate.. right now, since she's slightly more dominant & there's a possibility of premature breeding, best is u separate loh, since u got another cage

Added on July 12, 2008, 10:51 pmi wanna ask ya, if the hamster's teeth naturally grow senget & overgrown, how to cut it? it grows at a very fast rate, so i must cut it often.. i measured my other hamster's teeth length & so i know agak2 how much to cut.. but i don't know cut using wat.. if use nail clipper, will the hamster feel painful? anyone encountered this?

the teeth is overgrown until she cant eat solid food properly.. she cant & dont chew on mineral stones.. anyone can advise? her teeth is very yellow too, i mean dark yellow..

btw, what bedding is Mid Valley Pets Wonderland using? is it Russel bedding? is Russel bedding safe to use? it's not written on the package whether it is pine or not..

all teeth intact.. bottom teeth is like normal, not yellowish.. the top front teeth are senget to the left.. initially i thot it's senget cos it's too long, but then after observing, it's actually senget from the gum itself..

Russel bedding i saw in PLC Sunway Pyramid loh.. yah, it looks like straw, so it should be the straw bedding u're referring to.. it is safe to use as bedding i suppose?

u should go n see PLC Sunway's bedding... so many stock of Chipsi Green Apple, that place almost smell like perfume shop.. then got red cedar bedding called LH.. and many other useless bedding.. but got Kaytee, B2N, BC, and that Russell loh.. not much choice..

is ur current hamster male? if u get a female which is less than 4 months old now, premature breeding will happen.. avoid placing a female below 4 months old with another male hamster.. there are many bad consequences of premature breeding that u wouldn't want to happen.. also if u plan to breed, there are many aftermaths such as getting more cages to place the babies & separate the mum&dad..

ur hamster wont be bored living alone if u provide a running wheel & toys.. try to get a better water bottle if it leaks.. also, when u move the cage around, most water bottles will tend to leak in the process.. if ur hamster has a cage-biting habit, switch to a tank then..

actually if ur hamster sleeps the whole day, that does not indicate that they're bored or lonely.. it's because hamsters are mostly awake during the night/early morning.. in the day, they only wake up for short intervals to drink, groom, eat, etc..

oic.. kinda hard to find adult hamsters in petshops.. cos mostly sell 3 weeks old to 2 months old.. but u might be lucky

ya, hazzy.. still biting
usually i encounter hamsters that wont bite my palm, only bite my fingers.. but this 1 bite everywhere draw blood too.. so i'm taking it slow, dont have high hopes cos already 2 mths.. but hopefully he can be tamed in time la..

nvm, used to it ady.. when just take out from the tank, he's very good.. but after a while, he start to bite.. even tho i put him down dy he still will bite when see my hand.. need to have fast movement or else will kena
his characer a bit weird loh, sometimes bite sometimes dont bite.. when he nip, and i blow, he bite me till draw blood

now wondering what method should i use..

in Mid Valley also have a few white syrians.. got 1 super big sized.. but the price of syrians there... sweat..

maybe u shouldnt have used it first before asking here.. IMO silica litter is not safe.. but i'm not very sure either..

if u got Ovo make sure u dont put at warm places.. cos the hot air will trap inside the Ovo and make the hamsters uncomfortable, and possibly heat stroke.. usually hamsters in warm places will not be very active.. they'll just lie down & sweat a lot..
