was worried more about disease than parasites, but you make a good point, i think i'll not let it out of the house if i get the ball laugh.gif
*
tongue.gif Another point is that, if it bang on the wall too hard and the top lid came lose, the hamster could escape. If it escaped you could catch it back cuz it'll be in your house. But if it escaped in the park you can say goodbye to it and it'll probably become an exotic meal for a stray cat.

Just for the record, Roche was pretty enthusiastic about the ball and rocketed off the wall so hard that the lid came lose. Luckily she got trapped by the bigger portion of the ball while the lid was lying some 2 cm away. If she was outside and wasn't lucky enough to be trapped in the all, she would have made off and die as something's dinner or die of disease, roadkill, etc etc.

another question about the ball, lets say i let my niece play with the hamster while its in a ball, assuming she doesnt start shaking/kicking/shoving the ball should i be worried? unsure.gif

Added on July 5, 2008, 3:41 amcan i also let it interact with my brother's new foundland wooly rabbit or something through the ball? unsure.gif
*
Well as long as she's just looking I think it's fine. But in short periods since it could feel stressful for the hammie right? The hammie will think "I'm pushing! But it won't move. Why?? What did I do wrong??" biggrin.gif

I don't think you should intro. My sister's guinea pig was having flooring time while my syrians were rolling around the livng room. Kiki the guinea pig got curious as she always is, and started sniffing and investigating the ball (with Ferro in it). Ferro kinda hissed, and scared Kiki away. I think it might feel stressful to both animals.

Roche wouldn't let her flooring time get ruined by a large hamster (the guinea pig) s she just sniffed Kiki, and rolled on around the room.

blush.gif It's not like they get exposed much to each other so I don't think need any introduction.

good day everyone, i keep my robo in habitrail mini but after a few wash on the wheel, the wheel seems not as tight as before or the rubber on top us loosen. It cause the wheel to sway when my hamster running on it. Sometime i see him run so fast than he flipped himself which i feel worry about. Also, this wheel has a empty space in btwn the covers (not sure how to put it but i also worry that he could hurt his feet). Not sure if anyone using Habitral Mini too and does the wheel has any problem like this? Should i be getting new ones? if so, probably those with 8" diameter would do?
*
You're having robos... You don't need such a big wheel. But if you can afford it, why not. I had to get a bigger wheel for my robos then cuz they don't like taking turns and all wanna run on it at the same time. This means one poor fella will be pushed out. So I got a bigger wheel and they all can run together.

Jus get a wheel with no gap for their feet to fall out of. Their tiny feet can slip out of the smallest hole~

no more peace here lo.....
b4 i talk abt hamster..

1. if u saw o knw a husband n wife fight...
wat u do?
they fight in their own house..
is their business rite?
da most we can do is advice rite?
if they dun wan 2 listen we also cant do much rite?
cox is nt our husband o wife...
2. if da oth way round..
u r 1 of the husband o wife..
happen 2 be fighting over something bt none wan report police..
ppl come advice u 2...
bt u choose nt 2 listen...
then when u go out wif ur fren..
will u tell ur own shame story 2 ur fren?
or maybe strangers?

3. same goes 2 hamster..
if the hamster is unlucky enuf 2 get such owner,
then wat can u do?
same like above...
most can do is advice..
ya.. some ppl mught nt knw they cant do tat
if dun wan listen then enuf..
u had done ur part..
is NOT ur pet o property..

4. if happens tat u think u can keep 2 syrian hamster 2gether n choose 2 do so,
quite similar like point no 2...
if u choose 2 fight wif ur husband o wife,
not need go 2 tell oth ppl tat u can do it..
nth 2 be proud of it...

no offence 2 any1 bt hope 2 c peace here...

Basically, statement 1 and 3 just means that whatever happens, we are not directly connected to the incident and all we can do is advice them. If the person given advice to don wanna listen then there's nothing you can do about it.

Statement 1 and 4 means that you are free to do anything you want and keep many syrians together. But it's the wrong thing to do so don't be proud of it. Don't tell other people you are doing it. Keep it to yourself. And don't tell people wrong things.

Which I quite agree with, the statements. You are free to do what you want but since you know it's wrong to keep syrians together you should not sokong the person no matter what the reason. Remember that there are many first timers who don know anyting and will listen to the advice of someone seemingly more expert. It's the sin of the breeder to give wrong information to sell more syrians but it is also the sin of the person supporting the statement because that just strengthens the wrong statement of the breeder.

ok...i  would like to correct in here bout the sin...
i said it's the owner's sin..the more hamster die, the more the owner sin...right???
meaning here...i refer to original owner laaa, the one who breed them at first place..not new owner...read it using brain....not using heart...ikut hati mati...am i that stupid saying if the hamster dead, its the new owner sin,new owner dun noe anything bout wut happen to the hammy b4 he/she buy...i am educated, not the one who dun noe anything...FYI,b4 i wrote that statements,i carefullly stating my words,i edit n edit many times, make sure u all dun read it wrongly if use brain to read properly, cuz i knoe all of u will flamed the statement, cuz u all hate the statement that "syrian can live in group"...
so i also think that statement will be flamed...my expectation is true...huhu...

thats y i said read use brain...n i also know that terrysoh explanation and method is wrong...

close la this topic...since it not bring any peace in here...i jz said it again and again..i'm jz sharing my info bout being able to see other people syrian can stay 2gether...n i say that the owner is lucky..not saying mine..as i state clearly..mine i kept alone<coz i follow u all clever people instruction in this thread, saying that syrian solitary, which good bedding, which good food, which good wheel, what to feed, whats not, should breed or should not,use cage or tank>......n i not try to win terrysoh...is that WRONG???

so...dun flame my word without reading it by brain..huhuh...u think i like to be flamed????i'm jz sharing story there...berniat baik..ended up..damn...
so??peace in here???
*
Do you know why people are flaming you... Sigh...

We know you are just sharing experience. But if you share the experience inside that person's sales thread, the people who read it might come to think that terrysoh is saying correct thing. Cuz got one person also say that got case where syrians can live together (that is you).

So if Terrysoh is doing the wrong thing by saying many hamster's can live together in one place, you're also not helping when you say that you've seen got other people also keep like that but nothing happened to them. Your experience indicates that it is alright to keep them all together, so people who dunno will buy a few syrians and keep them together when they read your experience. Not to mention they may tell other people it's ok to do that then got more hamster will suffer.

blush.gif People here just don want new owners of hamsters to have this kind of wrong information and feel sad when their hamster start killing each other.

blush.gif And it would help if you remove your experience from that garage sales thread ok?

sweat.gif I think you better just remove your whole experience. You edited it but the experience still there for many people to read. People will get the wrong idea when they read your experience so just remove the whole thing lar.

Then in your post just put "-deleted-" or seomthing. don need say anything else.

This proves that smetims what we see may not be the entire truth. I mean, petshop hamsters do look ok together. But underneath it all, they are all so stressed out.

This stems from the fact that hamsters can't talk so we must try to give them needs that they cant tell us, like letting them live on their own.

hey guys, since fruit isnt really an option i'll have often for fresh food,
can i feed a hamster those frozen mixed veg? (thawed of course)
*
Just get Nezu's smoothies. It comes in assorted flavors and are a mix of 8 different kinds of veges and fruits and other stuff. It's really healthy and it helps your hamster gain weight and be chubby chubby in a healthy way. If you have the smoothie you don't really have to worry about fresh food. You can get it at Pet Shack.

About those frozen veges...
sweat.gif I don't really think you should. I think they use some sort of chemicals to preserve the freshness. Plus those veges aren't much for nutritional value. It's just peas, carrot and corn right?

@coltrain: Share with us some pictures~ Did you get smoothie for your syrian?

oo, i thought the smoothies was just a treat kind of thing, guess i should read more properly laugh.gif
*
biggrin.gif Why Colby?

Treats are like vegetable drops, strawberry drop, etc etc. Smoothie is a healthy "shake". I feed it to my syrians every night. They don't take water at all when I started giving them smoothie so I just took it off. Since smoothie has no added water, my hammies are drinking fruit juice in every gulp. So healthy!

@Yian: I think brother meant that hamsters don't have such relationship issues. They don't think like us and they don't need companies and relationships like us.

oo..
ok..
yes.. they dun hv...
bt robo need companies (most of them) 2 make them brave..
*
smile.gif But that's the difference between robos and syrians. Robos are communial while syrians are solitary. Robos feel comfortable when they have company of the same kind but syrians feel stressed in the presence of another syrian.

@coltrain: smile.gif Leave your syrian alone for a couple of days. It just made a stressful transgression from the petshop to your home. It's in a new cage and it's for nobody else but him. Let him get used to stuff. Plus he doesn't know you yet. give it some time. Stuff like this don't happen overnight.

Eh. Just give it everything it needs and for now give it privacy lor. Give it some food. That's about it I guess. It just needs to de-stress when you just brought it back.

QUOTE(Criollo @ Jul 6 2008, 03:38 PM)
I found that the previous cage i had was too small, so i went out and got a haitrail mini for my two little boys. Bought the whole cage for RM65, but when i got home i realized that the hamster wheel was missing =.= Lazy go back argue with the aunty and get the wheel (since i don't really like the hanging design also), so i'm looking around for a wheel that will fit hehe.

As for the cage, i find the idea of a mushroom waterhole abit weird =.= but my hamsters are willing to drink frm it so it will serve its purpose for awhile, until i find a new water bottle that fits. The hanging mushroom hideaway was kinda mind boggling for my hamsters, they had no idea how to use it, so i took that away and put in their old toy houses. Guess the only thing i'm planning to use is the food bowl lol

On the good side, the latch door on the front of the cage makes it very convenient for scooping the hamsters out of the cage plus the wired bars are abit high up so they can't chew on them. (but that does mean i have to find an alternative for them to climb, since they like to be spiderman so much) Plus the cage is convenient to clean.

I also bought prestige hamster nature for the two boys, but they seem to be addicted to kua chi and are ignoring the food =.= I still give them a few kua chi a day, but i'm planning to leave the bowl of food there and let them eat that only, so they can get used to it.

Thats all for my update hehe~

It's so cute!!! wub.gif

I suggest you just stop feeding them kua chi for a while. Let them eat the prestige first. hmm.gif Hamsters don't know good stuff. Will choose habitrail over prestige.

@mike: depends lor. If not spoil then sure can. But don't melt it too often cuz it will lose freshness.

I tried PM you regarding the hamster play pen, you never reply the PM, is it still available ?

@kmao

As long as they don't depend on their mother's milk anymore ?
*
tongue.gif It's too late. She already sold her playpen.

Wean means that a particular living thing stops depending on mother's milk and can eat solid foods. Smoothies can be fed to very young pups (before weaned) I'm not sure about mealies. But surely after wean since it's considered as solid?

Then just buy an exercise ball. My playpen I can only use for my guinea pigs. Because I've seen both Ferro and Roche's incredible feat of climbing out of the playpen.

My hammie, everytime when i wanna feed her my own, she will groom herself, it takes almost 15 minutes for her to do the grooming  doh.gif
Wash ketiak, wash her butt, wash her back... Woke up must be hungry liao but still wan gantung harga by grooming herself, don't wanna eat the food  doh.gif
*
biggrin.gif Just like mine. When they just woke up, I must give them some time to stretch stretch, yawn a few times and then do grooming session. When done they'll wanna come out for thei flooring time in the exercise ball. Then 15 minutes before I put them back in their cages I will melt their smoothie for them.

sweat.gif Ferro is a long hair syrian so his fur still growing. But he everytime also groom his fur until berserabut wan. So weird. hmm.gif Roche's fur is also becoming dense.

tongue.gif But this is all ok since they say a hamster who yawns is a happy hamster.

BTW my robos always pee and poo in their toilet but not my syrians. Weird.

Like that mine too, she always yawn while stretching her back, sometimes she yawn while she is climbing the vertical pipe, she climbs with her back legs both widely open, like spiderman laugh.gif

I read that when a hamster yawns, it shows that the hamster is happy and contented. A hamster under stress will not yawn.

Take a picture lar~ I wanna see! Hehe...
