I did do some workings here and there where applicable. However, looking at the fact that i only completed 15/25 marks in Q3 due to poor time management, I feel extremely worried! Imagine resitting P2 for 3 months, whole day sitting in a packed lecture hall, listening to same lectures with abit of revised changes.. It will surely be damn demotivating. sad.gif Now really have to pray hard. Hope I could score in Q2 though.

Yes, I think I'm similar as you, taking 3 papers per sitting. Left with 2 optionals this sem. Opted for P5 and P7. With a view of starting work, would like to ease my burden on taking the so called "easier" subjects where I could "crap" abit by using english and applying knowledge here and there tongue.gif

Btw, which optionals did you opted for?

Edit : Oh I think u misunderstood my situation. What I did was, say depreciation = 5, and amortisation = 6, I wrote both separately, but squeeze it in 1 line space. =.=

e.g depreciation 5
      amortisation 6

in 1 line space! Now u can imagine how messy it gets if this is repeated in 6 lines.
*
Oh thats just an example (not related to exam question at all).
I choose P4 & P6 all taken at KL centres (Sunway too far away & its quite costly compared to market prices).
Seems i have only 2 exam papers left only i just simply take the 2 most difficult to test my comprehension.
Have you ever taken any papers outside sunway ?

To Topace111, what about if i insist because i'm passionate about it and really willing to learn something new?
*
If you want to pursue something you may need to ask yourself these 3 question ?
1) Your interest (please don't choose purely because of money)
2) Your job security & prospect (safety, pay, promotion......)
3) Your capability & skills (Ie : if you have good memory & oratory skills you can become lawyer)

Passion is very short termism in my opinion, I don't really recommend anyone to accountancy unless they are very sure of their objective & dedicated to it. Accountancy generates one of the highest job diversification (you switch to other professions). My opinion alone will not be enough for your consideration, why not you attend the upcoming EDU FAIR which will be held this weekend at KLCC. Maybe you can gain more info there.

Hmm i agree Parmindar is more suitable in teaching P3 than P1 (although i also have not attended his P1 class).
P1 core are was segregrated into 4 main sections :
- Corporate governance
- ethics
- environmental issues
- internal audit & internal control

With the exception of audit area actually any lecturer can teach P1 thats why we have a lot of lecturer around teaching it, Mco (1), KB (2), KSA (2), FTMS (1)....... Actually i have just discovered how useful & important P1 is in other paper as well. It seems examiner purpotedly reserve 10 hidden marks in every professional paper with issue related to P1, example :

P2 : Touch on ethical arguments related to creative accounting
P3 : Touch on performance relaed pay
P4 : Ethical issue of share options / leaseback proposed

I don't know about other papers so its left for you to check it out tongue.gif . By the way the answer script for Dec 08 exam is already out.

Lol during part 2, I still dare to look at answers. Now, i'd rather stay back and enjoy my holidays, and a few classes here and there. No point over worrying something that has already been done.

On the other note, anyone here used Colin Drury book for P5 before? Is it extremely necessary?
*
Is it necessary to overstudy tongue.gif ?
Since i have taken P6 do i have to buy the examiner published book Richard Thornton or CKF book on malaysian tax ? NAH icon_rolleyes.gif
BPP has make it in one of their recommendations not to overstudy (by reading too many books), maybe it is their marketing strategy hmm.......
My mother always try to impose commercial example on me , internal conrols of her company (i fed up try to explain to her practical exmple is very different from what we learned for exam, she of course never listened biggrin.gif ).

I should be going to my P4 i few minutes , dang its raining again sad.gif . I was soaked wet when i get back yesterday. sweat.gif

I can throw some reasons if you claim why you are perplexed why CKF class is only "30" :
1) He is very famous but he had stop teaching for few sessions (look at keith farmer : use to be the top reporting lecturer)
2) Optional class itself is self explanatory : it is not core paper innit. Last time finance is core paper & the lecturer like daniel ho can have around
300 students but now its optional it shrink to roughly 30.
3) Late confirmation (everybody have already registed for other paper / lecturer)
4) You think everyone can afford sunway ?
5) You think everyone live near sunway ? (its not even accessible through LRT)
6) You think everyone chooses tax as their optional paper ?
7) And the most important of all why does it concern you if the class is only 30, do you want it to be 300 instead (you like to study in crowded env ?)

I always had my scepticsm (something i get from audit) when somebody informed CKF will be running full time class in sunway.
If he is not teaching full time i understand why sunway may be reluctant to disclose the full info. (biz stategy something i learned from my P3).
I wonder what happened to those "30" that registered ? tongue.gif

By the way i received email from acca confirming that they will change the "6 month rule based" to "1 year / annual rule based"
The reason : give longer time for student to prepare for changes of syllabus

I copy this from my mail :
Please note that there are important changes relating to ACCA’s rule to update examinable documents.

What is the change?
ACCA used to update examinable documents every six months which meant changes to documents for June exams had to be made and communicated by 30 November of the previous year and for December exams, 31 May of the same year. Going forward, ACCA will update examinable documents on an annual basis.

For paper-based exams regulation issued or legislation passed on or before 30 September, will be assessed from 1 June of the following year to 31 May of the year after. Therefore, paper-based exams in June 2009, December 2009 (and March 2010 for Russian DipIFR only) will be assessed on regulations issued and legislation passed on or before 30 September 2008.

The above rule applies to all papers and paper versions with the exception of taxation papers in Hong Kong, Singapore and Zimbabwe.

Regulation issued or legislation passed in accordance with the above dates may be examinable even if the effective date is in the future.

For more detail on all papers and computer-based exams you should refer directly to the examinable documents and syllabus study guides within the student and affiliate section of ACCA's website.
This change is applicable to all of ACCA’s qualifications; ACCA Qualification, CAT Qualification, DipFM and DipIFR.

When will this change come into effect?
Unless otherwise indicated by the examinable documents for the June 2009 exam session. Therefore the closing deadline for changes to examinable documents was 30 September 2008. These examinable documents will be relevant for June and December 2009 exam session.

As a student, how do I benefit from this rule change?
The major benefits are you will now have longer to prepare for the exams and increased clarity and assurance as to what will be examinable at each exam session.

What are examinable documents and syllabus study guides?
The syllabuses for ACCA’s range of qualifications are based on and make reference to a range of materials including legislation, standards, exposure draft and interpretations. Any changes to these types of documents will now have to be communicated by 30 September of each year if they are to be examined in June or December of the following year.

For your information, below is Dr Choong Kwai Fatt email where he give to us during I attend his 3.2 class,

kwaifatt@yahoo.com

This is real one. If yours don't believe, then can email to him for double confirm.

The time table in Sunway website only mention Mr. Choong KF teaching full time P6 class, but not Dr Choong Kwai Fatt. So Mr. Choong KF can be Choong Kim Fatt, Choong Kwai Far or other CKF.

And also Choong Kwai Fatt class normally 250 students, but not 30 students.
*
Now thats a better confirmation, what are the odds of another tax lecturer with the same acronym of Choong KF (Ha Ha).
Its like one of of my friend bragging to his old class mates.
She have an OBU see, so she mentioned she have an "Oxford" degree without mentioning the "brookes" so you get the idea.
I have surveyed some of my optional friends as well but majority of them will probably seriously considering joining CKF* if he is teaching at SEGI
There are also 2 Mr Chow at MCO for that matter biggrin.gif

It does not concern me if the class is only 30 or 300. Why is it that you sound so offended?

Added on January 7, 2009, 12:33 pmI am not sure whether CKF is teaching P6 in Sunway or not, but do have a look at the timetable

http://www.sunway.edu.my/images/stories/Su...om_g1_jan09.pdf

Probably there is another Choong KF teaching P6 in Sunway.
*
I am not offended at the very least biggrin.gif I just found it funny when somebody feel uneasy about small classes. After experiencing some really "famous lecturer" i found enourmous class brings more misery than the purported hype. Perhaps you will know what i mean when you come to there as well. Perhaps going to menon class will open your eyes.
I think everyone make mistake if not they already got 100 in their "acca" don't you think tongue.gif

The best law lecturer in Kl is Viknes. Many lecturer have tried to teach and failed. Evidently they have the knowledge but are unable to spread the meassage to the student. He can make law the most interesting paper (even that is an understatement)

By the way i just received student direct from acca (email)
I try to scour through the content & find something very interesting to share but first to changes in papers :
- P3 has a major change
- touch something important on CAT transition
- something do do with P4 & P6

By the way when i scour the optional paper I discovered that P4 had the least student & Its prize winner is only around 77. shocking.gif
This is the content if you wish to browse through :
http://newsweaver.co.uk/accastudent/e_arti...dVR5Kv,b9TmSkm5

The popularity of optional papers is in this order :
1) P7 = 5635 student
2) P5 = 4314
3) P6 = 3336
4) P4 = 2511

Well i seriously think Viknes is the best F4 lecturer (not P1). There are many other lecturers around but he is considered one of the most experienced around (if not the most experienced). I have only taken 2 paper at KSA in my entire acca life (Viknes & parmindar) as both of these lecturer is those you cannot miss. No wonder in this forum for F4 & P3 there is only 1 lecturer recommended for each of that paper.
Currently Viknes is teaching at KB.
I don't know about other lecturer but majority of my friends claim Viknes is the best for teaching F4.

About why he left KSA there are plenty of rumours are flying around but i heard from a close friend that its because of the matter with principle not financial factor. It seems that KSA has hired another F4 lecturer without his knowledge & he just learnt about it after KSA has announced it in website. Well if your boss hire another worker who can do your job how do you feel ? At first i thought the new lecturer was a replacement but actually its the second lecturer for the same paper. I heard Joe fang is also not that happy when Keith farmer was introduced. Miss Goh also left i think.

Anyone looking for the best lecturer should view the lecturers recommended at the first page of the forum. Anyone not mentioned doesn't mean they are not good but perhaps unable to garner enough support. I still remember one of my P3 stuff on Kotler research. He researched that satisfied customer will spread the news to 3 person while unhapppy customer will spread to 11 person. Perhaps now you will see how hard is it to be the sole recommended lecturer for F4. Even when i ask lecturer from other college they also agreed viknes is the best in the field of law.

I am quite happy if there is more competent lecturer around biggrin.gif .
However after just one class you can already make a full summary of her teaching experience (i'm really impressed drool.gif ).
Normally i summarise the lecturer's performance after s(he) finished the syllabus.

Viknes does have some bad attitudes which i think its already mentioned in the post above. I am also left fuming when he did not finished f4 syllabus in my seating but reflect in overall he is considered better than most lecturer out there. However i do admit he is quite notorius in bad mouthed people, in fact some lecturers in KSA also have the same attribute. Parmindar also crash on FTMS once a while but share a good friendship with Daniel Ho. tongue.gif

Wah.. F4 war here. But she she is also a certified lawyer. ^^ . Try searching her full name in facebook. She just added me. ^^ haha... sorry as Im an face book addiect ^^ . Looking forward for her class this coming saturday ^^ .

But I do believe each ppl got its own way of study. Maybe some prefer Viknes and some will prefer Ms Sanjeetha style. But it depends I guess. ^^ . Wonder if the class is full this saturday.

Which lec is the best for F9 as currently I'm under Andrew Pang in KSA. Ppl say he is not good in theory but in first class he teach purely theory. Any other reference to read ??
*
i am currently attending P4 at daniel Ho & after surveying around from ex andrew student they think daniel ho is better in overall :
- daniel class is very relaxed & at steady pace.
- He followed step by step approach
- You can ask as many question as you want & nobody is there to "shush" you away. The class normally throw around 20 questions at him & he never complained & still make jokes somemore.
- I ask from ex andrew student & all of them claim andrew teach theory by highlighting the key point and ask them to go back home and read.
Maybe he already changed in your seating .

Currently daniel is the only lecturer speciallised in finance so he can share a lot of techniques to student. Andrew is considered more generalised in management & finance

I have taken my add math in school & its very unrelated to acca.
However there are some areas are useful for finance & performance management (however these areas are more applicable in practical sense)
Add maths are more related to engineering especially calculus part the backbone of engineering. If fact even my a/cs in SPM cannot help much (its only relevant for lower level reporting & very brief on tax). Accounting in SPM only touch on the intro of the introduction of acca. (not even 0.5% of the entire syllabus)

Don't worry what you know before joining acca rather what you will do after it, many student come with inflated ego & self created illusion after their "excellent" SPM result but failed at the final hurdle. If you have zero knowledge its best to start with CAT (you cannot enter acca anyway with just spm).

the msot important is to find lecturer who will assumed student have zero knowledge in class. I think Mco & FTMS practice that style whilst KSA focused more on exam / past year (generally speaking)

The issue of immediate family can be tested on leave passage as well.
If you have any uncertainty about tax you should check the public ruling (which can be easily downloaded / viewed)
According to public ruling Alan yeo is right but the ruling only state the rule applied if the person is married.

The ruling is evidently silent on "non-married" people. It is generally accepted assumption that your parent will be the closest living relative hence immediate family. I have approached siva with this question & since he has marked acca papers before tax had many ambiguities since examiner followed different text books (hence many different theories) therefore you must know your examiner. Therefore you should state your assumptions very clearly (this normally happenned in P6 not F6). If i am not mistaken F6 examiner is a malay woman in malaysia (kinda forget her name already)

any tips or way to study F4 for this coming sitting exam?

the most high barrier that's my english is poor sad.gif
*
F4 doesn't need student to explain much just have to memorise the content.
If the ask the same question the answer will be 99.99% copied from past seating.
If you have very powerful memory to memorise all and answer accordingly, its very likely you will pass.
Can't say that for newly introduced area like torts or corporate governance.

However when comes to F5 & F8 then you have a real problem.
Professional level is even more demanding especially P1 & P3.

You can really consider parmindar at KSA if you don;t mind the class size it can get to 125 at at normal class and 250 at combined class.

Not said can't self study, just the risk will be higher if you choose to self study for any P level paper.

In P level paper, application knowledge will become very important. May be you will miss out a lot of thing when self study expecially examiner requirement.

All the question in P level is very practical. If you self study, may be you only strong in theory but don't know how to apply.

I have some degree friend where they get very good result during degree exam. B4 they take ACCA, they feel that ACCA is very easy cos a lot of thing already study in degree. After they start study ACCA, then baru they know how difficult ACCA exam as compare to their previous degree exam. Just like P1, they keep on to complaint "read the question but don't know how for the answer". Even in P3, they already study the whole syllabus during degree, but the problem was they don't know how to apply to the answer.

I'm not recommend you self study for any P level paper including P1 even P1 is not difficult. As I said it is better go to attend class [Philip Woo(KSA) or Sheila (MCO)], then you will know more better as compare to self study.
*
I agree with your view.
I had seen countless times student older than me in the class regret their strategy to self study in their paper.
Well they have wasted their money in exam (they thought they can save it on lecturer cost, transportation.......)
At the end they turn up to become the most hardworking student at class.
This is what they normally share :

1) The flexibility : With 6 months to study for any given paper (let say take up 2 paper). One must need very high level of discipline to study accordingly with the syllabus. There will be many distraction & temptations on the way and student must keep focus. Therefore younger & inexperienced student will normally fail in this criteria.

2) Focus : This is the biggest issue unknown to most that self study. They will not know which is the "main area" and may focus wrongly on area which may not even tested before by examiner. I had known plenty of degree students who want to try out acca professional level / part 3 on themselves first but learn it hte hard way later when what they learned for exam is totally different from what is tested. I can disclose theor marks if you guys don't ind (averagely its less than 20).

3) Actually there are many more factors highlighted by acca magazien but i revealed the most important one. The technic of exam.
I can almost guarantee that student will not pick up what examiner really want in those text book. they may make a very glaring flaw and don't even realise it. As such they may come out at exam hall briming with pride but at result day crying with agony.
F6 : I don't think you can learn all in text book (almost suicide by learning by yourself)
F8 : Can self study but there are many technics not mentioned by book but highly important in exam : wording using SP or TOC.
P2 : The exam just state the marks for each standard but silent on how to get it. Student may just calculate without explaining (since exam never mentioned explanation). So student may just get 1 mark out of 5.
