I noticed a slight increase in the subwoofer volume after using the Y cable. Dunno weather it's real or placebo effect only laugh.gif
*
ok was lurking around avsforums on this matter.. what i found out is..
1. yes its true, using the Y splitter does inc the sound by 3db.. however, u will have to recalibrate ur sub again which will then bring the db back to what it was.. haha.

2. ok now, another thing they posted is, the L n R is bridged already inside the sub if theres only 1 connection runned to it (L/R), most prefer to plug in L instead of R, however logically it wouldnt make any difference since its mono and not stereo.

3. Monsters dont make this Y splitter cables so.. yeah take that point personally..

4. the L/R ins are for speakers to feed sound to the sub if the speakers have weak bass. if using LFE sub-out from amp then 1 is enough

SVS u can actually disable the crossover from the sub so u can let the amp manage all the crossover for u.. hehe less stress for the sub..

Do yu guys think sub-woofer place in the corner is the best position to boost up the bass reflection than the normal at front row along with the front speakers? Low frequency relfects more ahainst a wall rite?
*
if the sub lacks bass power, then putting it at a corner would increase the 'bass', but if ur sub can pack a punch then corners can distort the bass effect drastically.. if u see HTkaki post of his HT area before, u will realise where he put his sub is a bit weird.. but after i got my svs n did my calibrating n finding the 'sweet spot' i find my sub position oso almost similar to him..

How weird is it ? Any Pic to show ?

My Sub lack bass especially watching astro. No budget for active sub yet, maybe in future. So I think the best way is to put it to the corner. But then, my left corner is about 4 metre from my tv. By placing there, we might just hear boom sound from left right, which will sound WEIRD overall.

haha lazyyy ok its like this, putting ur sub at corner WILL enhance the bass.. so, if ur sub lacks bass, this will be good. but.. if ur sub memang good bass, then this will be bad.. ok

lemme teach u how to find the best place to put ur sub...

1. Place ur sub where u normally sit and watch ur tv
2. play a movie or some songs with bass
3. now crawl to around ur sub's height, and crawl around the room and find the area where ur sub sounds the loudest and most punch
4. if u find 1, just move around more to see if got any other place..
5. after that, that is the place where u should place ur sub at smile.gif

ok as for me.. my sub is next to where i sit to watch my show.. its either here or i move it somewhere between the my seat and the screen... but of curz to the side.. hehe

Bro,

39in in ht only but footprint is only slghtly bigger then de woofer size itself which if not mistaken is ard an inch both sides out from de 12inch woofer .. so it actually takes up less floor area then a 10inch box sub..

I wanted de cylinders when I bot my pb12 but SvS didnt ship them overseas then..

Cheers

and ive made mine to go as low as 10hz btw smile.gif

i wanted to get the Ultra, but they said no cuz my room cant handle it.. then i asked for the 16-46 but they told me they're not shipping it.. so~~ i chose the 20-39.. money wasnt the issue.. it was their ethics sad.gif.. and also, they kept on pressing that for my room size, the 20-39 would fill it just nicely.. haha

took me awhile to find out that it over pressurized my room.. took awhile to adjust it... now it is just.. Da Bomb~~

callmevil....have you tested your svs with U-571???
demn shiok I tell u....my vol only -16 and my whole house is shaking and the real feeling like I am in the sub......
gosh...how does it feel if the vol at 0db???? shocking.gif
*
its been shipped on the 2nd sept with my TF.. using expedite, takes sooo long to reach cry.gif i cannot wait to FEEL the movie!! (haha yess.. feel!!)
QUOTE(htkaki @ Sep 11 2008, 10:55 PM)
Taukeh, later you must do house foundation inspection lah if this keeps on  tongue.gif  Now, thinking of buying U-571. By the time, it reaches me, my new sub would be here.
*
HT, is this possible?? my frens keep asking me 'is this safe for ur house?' but i dont see anything wrong wif it.. or am i wrong here??
---

ok about svs / wharffy sub review, i have the wharffy pc-8 sub, well if u just want a sub for the sake of having one, then this can do that job.. nothing special accept for the nice form factor.. good deco~

now on svs sub.. i learned it the hard way, Music Bass and Movie Bass very diff.. i syok2 listen to songs and keep increase the sub's volume till rclxm9.gif then, without knowing, i pasang Ratatouille BD.. the first 10mins of the movie bottomed out the SVS at 0db.. so shocked! so i go google.. apparently music bass u can crank up, but for movie, u mUst turn the sub's volume down by about 1/6 - 1/4 compared to the music's.. sighhhh so scared man.. i bottomed out the sub over 10x edi.. but never in cloverfield.. 1x in Golden Compass, the scene where the bear just got his armor back, and he was being surrounded by the army.. 1 scene there can bottom out the svs.. haha

Eh, the 10R is peasant sub... You'll need at least 12R to be to get the elite-o-meter to work. laugh.gif

I'm seeing people discussing SVS Ultra, REL Strata II, Paradigm Servo 15 here. Now those are Level 8-9 in the elite-o-meter reading. notworthy.gif
*
SPLs and DDs for Velo aiman! haha. Paradigm Servo 15, i can only wonder how that sound.. i wonder how much diff it is from my friend's dual 15" sub in his car.. haha

Why do you guys need such a powerful sub? I bet ur place is not that big either giving average home size here. If you crank up the volume it will swallow every other sound. Kind of pointless. Kiasu is it? tongue.gif
*
why? hehe ill tell u.. before i think sub is just for the BASS.. well that is true for music.. but for movies.. its all about the Feel.. and thats what Big sub is for.. the simulation.. and no my svs does not swallow any sound. it accentuates them really since its non directional so it kinda leaches on which ever channel sound is coming from.. say explosion happens on the backright, so sound is heard on the back right, but the Boom/Wahh comes non directionally from the sub, however since my eyes see this happening on the right, and audible directional sound heard from the backright, my mind auto associates those boom/wah from the back right.. haha dunno how to explain this effect.. but bassically its as if my 9.1 are giving me those Deep effects..

and if ur sub is swallowing every other sound then there must be a crossover issue there or thats a terrible sub.. its not pointless at all and nothing to do with kiasu.. its all Preference smile.gif ehehehe

so.. my conc, sub = for bass.. powerful sub for feel..

Thanks for the advice, will check with him and see.

Btw, which of the following you guys think is better? I am in to 50% music / 50% movies. I prefer controlled and accurate bass.

SVS SB12+ , SVS PB12+, Sunfire HRS-12, Velodyne SPL-1200R
*
hmm u prefer forward firing vs downward firing because?

Downward tend to be more controlled and better for music. Forward firing tend to blast you into oblivion  biggrin.gif or in other word better for movie blush.gif

all my Lil'Wayne, Lil Jon, T-Pain beat is beautifully presented by downward firings smile.gif

Anyone here use Wharfedale Powercube?

Also wanna ask, how come subs have connections behind for speakers? I know that you can connect a intergrated amp into it and from there connect a speaker which is useful (my friend does this). But normally its not used right?
*
yap i got pc8 its ok for my small room. erm yah most active sub would have this speaker outs.. but i nvr use it though..
