Congrats. Welcome to Velodyne club thumbup.gif

QUOTE
I'm still a little bit confuse on what subwoofer to buy.I have narrowed down my choices between Klipsch synergy sub 12 and velodyne CHT 10R. My room is around 10 x 6 meters and go for 50/50 music and movies. According to their brochures, Klipsch is a downfiring sub that can go down to 24 hz, while Velo is a front firing sub which can go down to only 28 hz. Anybody has any suggestion?
Have you audition the Klipsch? How much? Is it from Tat Chuan?

On paper, seems that the Klipsch has the upper hand. But, audition is necessary.

htkaki getting servo15 ?! woah !
*

Went for lunch. Upon return, saw my name there. Kena table rclxub.gif

Servo-15 is my wish list only. Could not afford it. The most is only RM5K-RM6K sub. That also takes light years of saving sweat.gif

Can, no problem. Your name is already at Paradigm PS1000 category. SW150, CHT-10R and SPL-1000 Ultra are all 10" subs

haha..another PS series kaki in the forum.. rclxms.gif too bad they had discontinue this series, so now what r the good replacement for this model in terms of value for money? not the servo-15 plz cos they r the different level one alrd and much suited for our Mr. HTkaki only.. brows.gif
*

sad.gif Kena table again. Me = peasant sweat.gif

My current kandang kerbau could not accomodate the Servo15. It needs ample room (space) to perform at its best. I really would like to own it (how i wish like veryone else tongue.gif ). Unless I buy my dream home, this will only becomes a reality (then again, with such bleak economy and wafer thin bank account, it wouldn't be a reality doh.gif )

So, the only sub that possibly could make it to my current home would be Velodyne SPL series only. That will takes me light years of saving too blush.gif

There is a few months old SPL-1200R going for slightly above RM4.6K. IMHO, this is a very good sub as I have auditioned it too many times. Megatron007 should get this to enjoy his mass collection of BDs. Highly recommended thumbup.gif

QUOTE(slicardo @ Jan 25 2009, 10:42 AM)
I have purchased the CHT 12R and arriving next week.i I have read in the forum that the best place for it to install is at the corner. The back wall is solid concrete while the sidewall is a glass panel. Is there no harm that the glass may break in case of a sudden heavy thump from the sub? I have no other place to put it in  cause the opposite front wall is open to another area. Any opinion on this matter?
*

then you need to do the 'old and tested way' to find the best location. Put your sub in your sitting area. Play some bass loaded tracks. Crawl around the room to find the 'nodes' or the best bass to your ears. That's the place to put your sub.

btw, glass meaning solid glass panel or those sliding glass doors / windows?

If solid, I dont think there will be any annoying vibration as I believe that the glass aint those wafer thin type. Moreover, there is a curtain in between.

wow..if let  said a room with 12" x 16" x normal height = how many cuft?

like tat 10-R enuff for peasant like me biggrin.gif
*

Exact answer sld be 2,112 as normal height is 11' (w/o plaster ceiling). Trust me, 10R will not make the cut for you, boss. At least SPL-1000R lah.

Told you to come to my friend's pad to check it out. Actually hor, his aint really 6 series. The front speakers only. The rest are above 6.

Surr back - B&W DS7
Surr - CDM 1NT
Center - Nautilus HTM-1

He is considering to buy another SPL1200R or probably Ultra for his room.

Hi big Towkey! Need ur expert advice.....what sub is suitable arrrr.....my living room size is 20' X 20' height is 12.5' right now i am using a 'chicken brand' 12" sub still sound very weak.  Tq very much.
Wish u & family a very Happy & Prosperous Chinese New Year!

blush.gif Aint big towkey (and aint that expert too)

Wah... medium size open area. At least 12R. Best bet would be SPL-1200R or other similarly range subbies.

QUOTE
After much poison by this forum, finally I have picked the CHT-10Q from A&L today. Rick was kind enough to trade in my old sub which I bought from him 10mths ago. Really nice guy...
First I tend to grab the CHT-10R, but my wife said the Q series looks more neat. After a proper setup as recommended by htkaki, the output is yummy...., really satisfy with the current performance. Will calibrate again when aiman4 lend me the SPL meter, then should be more precise...

You're welcome, bro wink.gif

Set the LPF to the highest possible for the LFE channel (note LFE channel only, not the other 5 F/C/S channel). On the sub, set it to the highest possible, let the amp control this. If you face some distortion, try to reduce the dB level for the subwoofer. Did you calibrate your sub with SPL meter or you just use Audyssey?
*
I think he meant 'Direct' and not highest LPF. Some subs have this 'Direct' setting, which is the highest point.

Really? Yammy 1800 is higher range than my 606. Are u sure we are talking about the same thing? I'm refering to the cross over frequency for the front/center/surround channel, not the LPF setting for the LFE channel.
*

Yes, 1800 cant do it as aiman mentioned. But, to compare with 606, 1800 is in different league unless we are talking abt 806. Moreover for an entry level (that's 606) at RM2.8K is a 'daylight robbery' to me.

Initially, I aimed for AVR-2808 but that's also insanely priced here in Bolehland. Was tempted with the individual crossover for each channel in Onkyo but being limited on budget, I opted for 1800. It showed impressivem improvement over my old AVR-2802.
