I'm not sure on the specifics but I think you can. If you focus just on German, I think you can do it in 1 year or less.

I would say, it's not easy. The grammar is the worse. It makes English looks really really simple.

It's not hard like studying to be a doctor or a rocket scientist; it's hard as in it takes a lot of time.

For the german language, it doesn't have to be 1 year. If you have been learning german and are in the proficiency level needed then you'll have no problem. Most of the german Uni requires you to have at least DSH 2 or Testdaf 12

Anyone know the German Language School name for teaching German language at GMI?

I heard that it is tuition free, but need to purchase the original textbook for learning.

Hye, I'm enrolling for July 2017 intake in Diploma Product Design & Manufacturing. Is the course good? Are they a lot of people taking this course? I took Reka Cipta in SPM and got an A. Plus I love designing. What can I expect during Registration & Orientation Day? Can anybody send me the subject that I'll be learning throughout my diploma years? Anyway, are they anyone here taking diploma product design? Just wanted to know some feedback on this course..
Thanks  rclxm9.gif

salam, Im one of the TTO teaching PDM (product design n manufacturing students are called PDM students). PDM is under the production technology department, it is the highest number of students in the department, while other programs have about 2 or 3 class group but PDM have more than 4 groups of class (last year 5 pdm group students graduated).

a brief about what PDM is:
it is a well balanced program that emerge base engineering, manufacturing know-how and how to design product. PDM graduates are commonly work as Design Engineer, manufacturing engineer or CAD engineer. among of its core subjects are product design classes (product visualization (sketch), model making, Design for fabrication n manufacturing, rapid prototyping tech, reverse engineering, cad classes). on the final year the students shall do their FYP design and fabricating the prototype up to industrial practice, the range of product for FYP they created is vast...from machines to product prototypes that have working mechanism and system.

well let me also brief u on Industrial Design:
it is a new program which is just 2 years in running, it can be said the little brother of PDM. industrial design or IDE in gmi (hence we use the term E at the end to say it is engineering related) is not like other IPT have, it is a good balance between technical, aesthetic and also manufacturing know-how. among the core subjects in ide are industrial design projects 1 (product design), design projects 2 (furniture design),design projects 3 (specialise design), form study (model making concepts), form study 2 (car aesthetic styling and concept), creative n innovation (a very fun brain cracking subject that explore design in a wacky way), studio sketching class. easy to say for 3 semester the ide students shall always use their sketching skill to create their works compared to PDM which is just one time only. IDE explore the concept of making design in the term of technical understanding and also human study (yes iindustrial designer are good researcher on how to create product pior to market needs).

why im explaining this it is because when a student took PDM as their path they are hooked on the word "product design" which is really more focus on engineering methods. and when we see "industrial design" the common perception is "are they designing factories? are they making engineering stuff?" while it is more a designers course such as we see car designers or furniture designers. both program are good as it is a diploma for further degree studies in mechanical engineer or product design related.

on orientation weeks you will be introduced to the how to survive as an engineering student and how to study smart and also have fun in GMi. on the registration is very simple..it is in the morning and after lunch your orientation shall starts smile.gif

do follow my instagram acc "riderxdesign" for industrial design works by GMi students and typical life of a designer who is also teaching it smile.gif

hope this answers your question, do pm or contact me for further inquiries ahmadfirdaus@gmi.edu.my

I'm now planning to go F6. From the flyer I got, it seems like gmi only offer diploma courses. Is this true? I thought they do offer degree too.

I went to GMI today. Their engineering equipment is very advanced especially in mechatronics. Was very fascinated with those robotic arms. Anyone taking mecha diploma this July? smile.gif

If I'm not mistaken, they only offer diploma, but as for the Degree at gmi, they will attach with UMP. They will also graduate under UMP. But the intake is not really much, around 30 students per intake. And the CGPA must above 3.00. And given that, the students must have diploma from GMI.

I do agree with this. I went to GMI on 2012 for 3-days short course of PLC Programming. It's quite magnificent, because I can see the advance technology they have, it just blows my mind. Therefore, as my personal point here, as engineering background, I would suggest you to enroll there. Their equipments are all up-to-date which makes you be more excited to explore it more and more. Goodluck anyway.

Oh there got KUKA too? Amazing. Hehe. Oh ic, if you already knows your passion there, good luck then, for your next study in TARC. smile.gif Yala, sadly they don't offer. Honestly, I even envisioned myself to be GMI if they can offer postgrad course but unluckily they don't. So sayang. Huhu. I think it's due to their advanced tech that makes us want to be a part of them exploring together. Haha.
