I bought from a shop here in Kuantan. The price is more than thundermatch or any other pc shop in KL. But actually the cheapest 22" (or 21.6" in this case) lcd monitor after benq.

Still in the box, will update soon.

actually nowadays most of the LCD got good response time already......( find LCD that have 5ms response time and below )

while the HDMI depends on the resolution it self.....

if high reso then you will get higher hdmi....

Yes, most of current LCD got good response, 5ms and below is good enough for normal eye. Unless you have bionic eyes. rolleyes.gif

HDMI actually is intended as an external consumer electronics connection for HDTVs (from article posted by kylinlee). It means HDMI actually for HDTV, DVD/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player and any external video audio equipment out there. Same like RCA for TV and RGB port for monitor in the old days. But because there are demands for LCD monitor to support HDMI, manufacturer integrate HDMI into their lastest HD LCD Monitor range.

Well, to put it simple, if you don't connect your LCD Monitor to any other electronic device other than your pc, you don't need HDMI. DVI is good enough as it produce the same image quality as hdmi.

Time to write some review for my Samsung 2253LW (21.6")

user posted image

Firstly let me explain that I'm not an expert in LCD Monitor. My knowledge on LCD Monitor is only after a month of reading and researching through internet. This thread helps me a lot. So please note that my review is from my very own personal point of view, cannot be taken as expert advice.

Ok, lets get on.

Price
I bought this monitor for RM700. Yup, higher than any retailer in KL sweat.gif . But after considering the cost of traveling and also postage cost, I think it will be the same plus nearer if anything happen. The warranty is 3 years by Samsung.

Why 21.6" instead of 22" or 24"?
Well, 2253BW (22") priced RM200 higher than 2253LW. The 0.4" is minor and after comparing side by side, I can't see much different. From the spec, both have the same 2ms, 1680 X 1050 resolutions, 8000:1 (DC) 1000:1(Typ), even dimension and the rest of them. The only difference is the weight, 2253LW weighted 0.3kg (6.8kg) more than 2253BW.

Migrating from 17" crt to 22" lcd monitor is really a drastic change for me. 24" give more desktop space but also required more table space. Unfortunate for me, I had to put my lcd monitor on coffee table sweat.gif . Imagine if I buy 24".

A few test...
I read some review on the internet regarding Backlight Bleeding. Some said that it is serious problem for both 2253LW/BW model. So here are my test.

Note : I used Dead Pixel Testing program for testing (go to first page to get one). All setting are set to default value.

First test is Backlight Bleeding. Sadly or may be fortunately, I can see very little backlight bleeding at the top and bottom of the screen cry.gif . The bleeding is very small even when I set brightness to the fullness thumbup.gif . The bleeding was gone when I set to Dynamic Contrast setting with MagicBright function. Personally, I feel that the bleeding is negligible, I can hardly see it. So for those who worry about backlight bleeding on this lcd, don't worry not all lcd face the same problem. If you still worry, when buying, please ask the seller to check for you. I spend almost half an hour in the shop to check everything before deciding to buy it.

Next test is dead pixel. Luckily no dead pixel rclxms.gif . But I also heard some dead pixel will take times to show up, so only time will tell.

I also try to play DMC4 and run a test run. Here the result.

The maximum resolution I get for this game is only 1280 x 1024. The screen change to 4:3 setting so I have 2 black bar at the left and right side of the screen. I see no ghosting effect.

Text look good to me. Sharp and easy to read.

Conclusion
The downside is my GC don't support hardware acceleration when the resolution set to 1680x1050 but work perfectly fine when the resolution is lower. I also don't like where they put the setting buttons. The setting buttons are at the bottom side and behind the transparent plastic bar. My hand tired from reaching these button.

But I can fully recommend this LCD monitor to anyone who want 22" lcd monitor with a <RM700 budget. I already checked some of other 22" lcd monitor but I think this LCD is the best bang for money. Just ignore the 0.4" difference from it brother.

@qwerty79 bro, nice review here. I wish i have time to do the DELL s2409w review but lazy and currently already had 1 review do by Hwoarang45 bro.  blush.gif
@Irishcoffee, mine also got a bit backlight bleeding but really is hardly noticeable.  smile.gif
@AMDAthlon, i think the backlight bleeding is the poor workmanship problem during assemble. If it's only a little bit then really is hardly noticeable.  biggrin.gif

Actually, I also have no time to write complete review of my 2253lw. But I think it worth to help other as I also in the same place like them when searching for a good monitor for me. Just try to give something back.

I believe most LCD will have backlight bleeding if you look carefully. I switch off all light in my room and the only light source is from my lcd monitor. The bleeding is only a thin light at the top and bottom, no bleeding at left and right side. I look very hard to search the bleeding and if in normal room lighting or dim light environment, I can see no bleeding at all.

Pal, try to go low yat for 1 round. There are a lot demo set you can compare, so just buy it when u satisfy. BTW, low yat also have ALLIT hypermart and i believe other shop also will sell more cheaper since competitive there too strong. smile.gif

The best way is to compare side by side if possible. In my case, I only get a few choices and take the best with the budget I had.

i jz bought samsung 2253LW from thundermatch RM 685..at first wanna buy benq rm 585 but then it doesnt come with dvi cable..and buying dvi cable and the lcd will cost rm 620
very weird lar..last time those samsung good model like 226BW come with glossy screen...then now all batch..comes with non glossy already..how come ar?
Glossy screen can give sharper image but can produce reflection on the screen. But I heard that 266BW is the best Samung lcd monitor but already phase out.

QUOTE(RoxyGal @ Nov 1 2008, 01:13 AM)
My eyes very sensitive geh..even slight ghosting i also can notice.
backlight bleeding worse ler, even highest samsung grade i also can see bleeding....dont have bleeding in my old crt
altho 5 ms and gtg 2 ms..i still can notice a bit of ghosting compare to my crt
Bleeding only occur on LCD not CRT.
You probably a gamer to notice ghosting effect on this lcd. 2ms (gtg) is quite fast for lcd monitor. Can't compare with crt. That's why previously most gamer take a while to migrate to lcd monitor because of slow response rate.

QUOTE(RoxyGal @ Nov 1 2008, 01:13 AM)
lucky this samsung can change to normal square screen..so i can play dota and cs...but need to train back the mouse movement coz not used to it .

overall...still not satisfy lar, maybe im still not used to LCD...I still prefer CRT...but i cant find any new crt selling in lowyat .

i think im little regret coz im so used to square screen...should have bought square lcd and not the wide wan...

Sad to here that. sad.gif

Yup, some gamers prefer 4:3 ratio than 16:10. I already mention this in one of my post. Widescreen also means lots of area your mouse need to travel. So when playing game, specially strategy-like, more area to cover.
