Ryan Payton already answered the question about why the hell is there a xbox360 in Kojimas office.

Well, it's there for the staff to play games like Gears Of War etc etc to help the Kojima devs to find the right balance for controls and stuff, and to get inspiration from western devs.

i think few month ago in one of the interview for a gaming mag(forgot the name already), kojima did say that the office does have XBOX360 for the developer team to try out western game for the control sceme like Gears of Wars series

To end all confusion, an alert is ONLY registered if you see the Alert status and/or hear the music change.

If for example a PMC spotted you, then you take him out with a headshot immediately the alert status will not have enough time to show up and will dissapear almost instantly. However, the music will still change for a few seconds. Now, that counts as an alert.

This isn't MGS2 and MGS3 anymore, where if the enemies showed the "!" mark you can shoot it off directly to cancel it.
