Guys, i;m looking into buying the Kia Sportage new version...but i heard a lot of bad comment about the car ( older model ) and that KIA is high in fuel consumption. thus, i would like to ask if anyone here can help me out or advice me better on this.

only on Kia Sportage...no other suggetion on other brand required.

Based on the car market now, not recommended to buy Korean cars.. their demand is very low thus lack spare parts on stock... and the value of the cars depreciate too much to justify on the buy...

the first batch of sportage was good bcos it was CBU. the current CKD batch isnt as good. if u want to buy a good vehicle, consider the chevrolet captiva. around the same price, plus diesel is more frugal, even with current diesel price

chevrolet captiva? is it almost the same price? how much and what about the fuel consumption? my personal favourite is Nissan Murano but due to budget issue...it's totally out...the last time i checked, murano is around 178k for AP car

i own a new sportage, just drove from johor to penang last night and a bit of city driving in Kl an ipoh, the FC is not too high, i got around 9.1 L/100km, which is quite good, and the build is good, the seat are comfy, better than x-trail and crv, the sound proofing is good, i dont' see why u don't buy this at around 100k or less now.

Saw in Giant, Kota Damansara just last weekend. Sticker said RM89,000.

Really can't argue at this price!

The biggest problem with this car is perception (and thus, resale value). It is not the most frugal cars around, but hey... tell me which decently sized SUV doesn't drink a bit more than the average passenger car? And it doesn't help that some people are not even comparing apples with apples when it comes to FC... come on.. even the overrated and overpriced CRV can't beat an 850cc Kancil in town.

For what it's worth, the Sportage has a very decent cabin that doesn't feel cheap, lots of legroom, is well insulated, has rear seats that can even recline (kids will love it on long journeys). Nicely sized trunk too.

What else can you buy brand new that can beat all that at under RM90,000?

If you don't like kimchi, the nearest priced sushi SUV is the Grand Vitara. Again, nit-pickers still b!tch about its resale value (there is no pleasing these Honda fanboys).

Just to inform you, the next generation Kia Sportage will be released next year. How long before it makes it here, nobody knows. Usually, it'll take quite a while to replace a CKD model...

i am going to get sportage manufactured at 2007 selling at RM90700 (smart blue colour) with 5 years warranty and 100k maintenance free as to clear stock. it has been left in showroom for several months and not left at yard. saw tire is made in 2007 also. so far looks ok but do i need to change oil, filters (oil and air)? battery already out so cannot start engine to test but they said will replace with new ones. any other things i should consider?

stryfox,
Did you manage to get the sportage? Is it the novus model? For a car made in 2007, the price is not good considering the depreciation, nevermind that it is practically brand new, but that's how the market perceives. I just saw the pics of the brand new 2010 sportage and getting quite excited about it.
