Phra Upakut, Kruba AriyaChat, Wat Saeng Kaeo Phothiyan, Chiang Rai Province.

Phra Upakut was a Monk in the times of Maharaja Asoka the Indian king who first promoted Buddhism. In this time Buddhism was experiencing a lot of disarray and downfall because a lot of false people were entering Monkhood just to make money or eat free.

As a result the local people did not have much faith and were losing their faith in Buddhism. King Asoka (we call Asoka in Thai) was then calling upon the monks to do something - they had a committee meeting and it came about that some monks knew of a monk called Phra Upakut who was sat in the "belly button of the Ocean" (Sander Tale), meditating and entering Nirodha and Samaddti state of meditation (enlightened and free from suffering). It wold have been so difficult to find a monk whose practice and purity was higher than this one - so they decided to elect him to be the leader of the Sangha in order to save Buddhism

2 kinds of worshipping reasons
One reason is that he is a subdue of Mara demons and thus protects you from danger. Second reason is that he is a keeper of purity precepts whilst sitting in the middle of the water - this means he will prevent you from having any heated feelings or things that cause you to be disturbed, angry frustrated or unhappy..all these things are "hot" feelings.. the water around this Buddha, and his purity will keep you and your household cool and peaceful instead of hot and bothered. No heated disturbances in the household and family.

Pra Upakut is severely revered also in Chiang Mai province and most amulets and statues of him will be made there. This is probably the Burmese influence too because in past times Burma was always overlapping into the province and even to this day you can see that the monks in North Thailand wear red robes like in Burma not yellow like in the rest of Thailand.
The reason he is called Bua Khem is because khem (needles ) was used to refer to the Buddha Arahant relics used to implant in this statue (in original large statues of him) where 9 needles or relics were inserted into his forehead (1) shoulders (2) hips (2) Hands (2) and Knees (2)

Worship Phra Upakut:
Healthy, happiness, calm, peace etc all what you wish for. Great for wealth in place of business.

Phra Upakut Katha:
Namo Tassa (X3)
Upakuto Ja Mahathero
Upakuttang Ja Mahatherang
Panthawero Panthanu Pawena
Imang Gaya Panthanang Atit Thami (X9)

Phra Dhammamuni (Pae Khemangaro Por. Thor. 5)

The abbot of Pikulthong Temple (royal monastery) and Monastery Master of Singburi Province.

The old name of Pra Dhammamuni (Pae Khemangaro Por. Thor. 5) is Pae. His father is Mr. Tien Chaimankong and his mother is Mrs. Nuay.

He was born on the second month of Big-snake Year (it is considered as Small-snake Year according to international principle), in the night of the waxing moon. It was on January 1st, 1905 (b.E 2448) at Suankluay Village, Moo 8, Tornsamor Sub-district, Bhromburi District, Singburi Province

(Tornsamor Sub-district has been included with Bhoprachak and Wiharnkhao Sub-district and promoted to be Thachang District).

Pra Dhammamuni or the Reverend Father Pae has 4 kins. He is the last born. All of his kins already passed away.

At the age of 11 he studied Thai language with the Abbot of Wat Pikultong, Ajahn Pan. In addition he also studied Thai language with Master Pom Chantasuwanno. This was considered basic graduation studies at that age.

Priesthood

After his basic graduation, Mr. Bun Khamwibul, his uncle and his father-in-law took him to Master Som, a Khmer monk of the 15th department of Chanasongkram Temple, Pranakorn District, Bangkok where he learnt basic subjects for 1 year and then Bali grammar at Wat Mahathatyuwaratrangsarit, Bangkok.

He was a disciple of the Reverend Wanarat (Heng Khemarimahathera).

He entered his priesthood as a novice on Thursday of the 5th month, waning moon 12, Monkey Year, A.D. 1282 at New Pikulthong Temple, Singburi Province.

The abbot Pan was a preceptor at his ordination (This temple was changed to Pikulthong Temple in 1940)

Ordination

At the age of 22 he was finally ordained a monk at Wat Pikultong on the Wednesday of the 6th month, waxing moon 10, Tiger Year, A.D. 1288. It was April 21st, 1926. (B.E 2474)

Pra Monkoldhipmuni, the abbot of Chakrawadirajawat Temple, Sampanthawong District, Bangkok, was the preceptor. Prakru Sithidej of Chanasongkram Temple, Pranakorn District, Bangkok, was the monk who led the verbal declaration.

The abbot On of Mae Thong Temple (Champathong), Poeprachak Sub-district, Bromburi District, Singburi Province was the chaplain at the ceremony.

He was given the priest name "Khemangaro" from his preceptor.

Widhyathana

1925 – Graduated the third level of Buddhist teaching (when he was a novice) at Mahathatyuwaratrangsarit Temple, Pranakorn, Bangkok.

1926 – Graduated the second level of Buddhist Test at Mahathatyuwaratrangsarit Temple, Pranakorn, Bangkok.

1927 – Graduated the fourth level of Buddhist teaching at Mahathatyuwaratrangsarit Temple, Pranakorn, Bangkok.
Appointment to be abbot and learning psychology

In 1931, the villagers surrounding New Pikulthong Temple invited Pramaha Pae Khemangaro to return to his domicile and assume the vacant position of Abbot of New Pikulthong Temple. It was considered that he was sufficiently qualified to take up the challenge to sustain the Buddhist faith.

When he agreed to take the position he decided that he needed to further educate himself to better serve the people and develop the monastery. He started to study Psychology and Magic, including Thai Herbs which in that period were very important aspect of village life.

He studied under Master Kliang of Suthatthepwararam Temple in Bangkok. Master Kliang taught him all that he needed to know in the various disciplines in which he was interested.

Apart from Master Kliang, he also studied under the Reverend Srisatjamuni (Pramaha Sonthi Yatitharo) and the Reverend Father Liam. (the villagers called him as "Luang Ta Liam") Both of whom were disciples of the Patriarch as well.
He devolved close relationships with all his teachers. This is evidenced by the fact that when there was a ceremony to the bless amulet of Phra Somdej Thong and Phra Chinarat, the Reverend Sonthi asked Master Kliang to bring his mould to LP Pae.

These are identical moulds to Phra Chinarat Mor. Khor. 1 of Suthatthepwararam Temple. In addition certain Kring amulets of Wat Suthatthepwararam were mixed with the amulets of Somdej Thong and Phra Chinarat.

Phra Buddha Sothorn

Phra Buddha Sothorn (Luang Phor Sothorn) is one of the most revered Buddha images in Thailand. The image is in the attitude of meditation, measuring 1.65 meters wide at the lap and 1.98 meters high. According to the legends, Phra Buddha Sothorn was the youngest of the three brothers: Luang Phor To, the oldest and Luang Phor Wat Ban Laem, the second. They were built by the Hindu priests. It was believed that the owners of these three images were three millionaires in the North. Over hundred years ago, a miracle happened when the three brothers or images escaped the blazing city of Ayutthaya by walking down to the Ping River, heading southward, where they were swept away. The eldest one floated down to the Gulf of Thailand and along the coast to Samut Songkram and has stayed there since then. The second one floated along Samrong Canal to Bangphli in Samutprakarn.

After the group of people there paid respect and used sai sin, a long white thread, to pull him ashore, he remained there since then. The youngest, Phra Buddha Sothorn, swept down thru Bang Prakong River to Chachoengsao. After people built a shrine for him and used some white thread, they were able to pull him ashore. Phra Buddha Sothorn has been there since then, where it is currently called Wat Sothorn Wararam, originally called “Wat Hong”. Two annual fairs celebrating the image fall in the 5th and the 12th lunar months (around April and November).

People throughout the country pay high respect to the statue due to the numerous miraculous events. At one times, It is believed that Phra Buddha Sothorn halted the deadly epidemic in Chachoengsao province after vows of appeasement were made to him.

Thais believe that whatever good wishes people make to Phra Buddha Sothorn, he will grant and make the wish comes true.

Loop Om(with gold frame), Luang Pu Tim, Wat Lahanrai, Rayong Province.

Diameter : 1.8 cm

More Details

What is most interesting about this Loop Om is that it was made with Phong Plai Guman powder which was used for the very famous Phra Khun Pean Plai Guman amulet The actual methods used to create this powder followed very ancient ways, which only a few monks had the knowledge to create successfully.

A disciple of Luang Pu Tim, Kon Kulahp, was instructed to find the corpse of a woman that died during pregnancy. He was told that that the woman should have died on a Saturday and cremated on a Tuesday. He was further told that once such a cadaver was located that he should remove parts of the child's skull, from the unborn fetus and not look back once the sacred material had been secured. This was carried out in accordance with the wishes of Luang Pu Tim.

Luang Pu Tim chanted a special Katha for one week in order to prevent the spirit departing from the Plai Guman. Once completed, Kon Kulahp was instructed to pound and grind the material into a fine powder, which he commenced to do, before becoming somewhat disturbed by sparks emanating from the mortar. He had to burn incense and ask for forgiveness before this phenomena abated.

Luang Pu Tim took the Plai Guman powder and mixed it with a number of other sacred powders including, Itije powder, Patamang powder, Jindahmanee powder and 108 different herbs and sedges. The mixture was chanted for days on end.

The Plai Guman was also added to a few other batches of amulets including this Loop Om, namely; Phra Somdej, Phra Khun Paen Plai Guman, Phra NangPhaya, Phra Plaai Buar, Phra Pittda, Phra Kring Chinabahnchorn. In the case of the Phra Kring amulet the material was added to the base.

Once his disciple, Kon Kulahp, questioned Luang Pu Tim on the reason why he chose to use the skull of a dead child in the process. He was answered
''When we plant a tree, we want to eat the fruits quickly. This is similar to wearing an amulet. We want the amulet to provide merit and protection. The Phra Khun Pean Plai Guman amulet will provide merit from Lord Buddha and the power and protection will come from Plai Guman''
