http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=137253

i might amend 2 simple rules for this section later:
1) Before posting anything, read the pinned threads.
2) If your thread is deleted, read the point "#1"

juz wanna share..
i bought 2.5mm thick clear acrylic from jalan pasar..the row behind asiapark carpark to be exact. approx 1ft x 1ft costs me rm7 only
there's also other thickness..for example 4mm thick sized 1ft x 1ft is around rm 10..there are more colors and thickness to choose from (clear to tinted acrylic) normally sold in big size (door size), costs around rm 90 or less...

diff colors in terms of white..blue...red..which is not transparent one...more like what they use for signboards..the tinted also got various level...light dark till very dark one (saw black color only)..asked already about the uv reactive acrylic but that guy like blur2 one..so i guess no then..u could try ur luck tho smile.gif

wow!!! just what I needed had I not found out something about my uncle. Hehe, he actually owns a "precision engineering" company! LoLX!!

So can get him to help me cut my casing and even have acrlyic! Senang kerja aku. Now all I haf to do is paint! Hehe...

One cool stuff I found out is that, to make the cuts so precise they use water. Annen they run this weird looking thing that rotates and cuts the metal sheet.
Awesome stuff!

no wonder he told me usually if customers ask, he'll charge. tongue.gif

If you're just starting, get something cheap (...and expendable tongue.gif ).
Start with small mods & work your way up. Try not to make this case your main casing. Just use it for modding "experiments". biggrin.gif

like he said...try only...not necessarily mean u have to get another case to use smile.gif but for first timer/noob or any other categories alike,DO NOT mod on expensive case.
anyway...PLAN well b4 u start.start with simple mods.good luck! biggrin.gif

I started out my first ever modifications on my old beige case that came with the system I bought. I knew if I messed up I wouldn't have to pay through my nose. Same goes for everyone. Start on more expensive items the better your skills are smile.gif Practice always makes perfect especially in this hobby.

EDIT: I think that piece of rubber in your picture is just transparent/ slightly translucent rubber Snoy. It jusy so happens to light up under UV, just like white plastic cable-ties.

Anyone knows where to get the rubber strip shown in the attached picture?

Is it an UV rubber strip? I don't want a normal black strip.

I hope you mean a door that is not in use...

Cos if you defaced public property for personal benefit, I find this attitude sickening. shakehead.gif

Why can't Malaysians regard public property with respect?

Hahahaha...ya lor. If getting jigsaw is out of budget, u may use dremel & the cutting wheel 2 cut the arcrylic. But dont push it into the arcrylic too hard or else the disc may break. Go slowly. wink.gif

I've tried asking some hardwareshop around my area they all sell it for around RM50+ shocking.gif

I need it to cut a fan grill behind my casing. I prefer using hole saw cuz its rather easier than using dremel and the cutting should b more cleaner...

Depends on wht brand...try get da best ur budget allows. U wont regret buyin' xpensive tools dude.

Like me...I dont mind spending a fortune on high-quality tools , well-known brands of power tools like Bosch and so on. They've lasted for years & still in perfect condition.

Use a jig saw with a metal cutting blade. You need a steady hand though for a clean cut.

B&D RTX1 = RM289
B&D Flex Shaft = RM189

Dremel MultiPro with 40 accs around RM500 i think. not including Flex Shaft sommore.

in order to achieve gud results wit a jig, u need a proper base wit d object such as panels ure workin on is secured n not moving..ensure dat ure usin d proper saw blade n try to have jus d rite space span provided below d panel eg too wide n d panel wil tend to vibrate not only makin life harder but oso more noisy..

remember to mask d area to work on too..dun worry, ul get d knack o it after few moments handlin it, trust me wink.gif

Btw, couldnt rely much on those cheap power tools @ hypermarts lah. Unless on tight budget & for short term lah.

For me, investing in well-known brands of tools is really worth it. biggrin.gif

guys, im looking for a digital lcd voltage display....something like allngap's temp lcd display. but i just want it for voltage. anyone know where i can find this item? ive never seen anything like it on its own unless it comes with a multimeter.

prefer something around pj or mid valley. jln pasar i have no time to go hunting. so if u know of a shop selling it...pls state EXACTLY which shop is selling it so i can go directly and get it (if u know the price itll be good too).

any help would be HUGELY appreciated.

EDIT: i want something that can take the readings directly without having to go through a series of resistors n bla bla bla on a pcb like a multimeter does aka standalone unit la. thanks

Poor guy. So many days d yet nobody tolong. Rivet gun u can get the normal hand operated 1 from hardware store. Then u just need to drill a hole. Load the rivet into the gun, poke the rivet tru the drilled hole n press the gun like a pair of pliers. The gun will pull the shaft up n flatten the rivet head. Done.

Ok, bear with me here ya.
I have already cut a windows on my side panel a long time ago, was looking for acrylic sheet but to no avail...so i resorted to using plastic. Did alot of modding to my casing and PSU but still left out the plexiglass. Searched all those advertisement shops, banner shops. Nada!

Art shop got? went to a few, also don't carry them. Anyone where i can get them in klang or subang area?
Thanx.

I really dont understand y most of u guys complaining bout heat issues with the RTX. I haf no issues with my RTX getting hot at all. N I cut a whole lotta stuff with it. Mebe mine's a new revision model? Or mebe it's coz I use the flex shaft all the time. Hence the ventilation holes on the side r never covered so it runs cool.

Act, any rotary tool also produces heat. So as ianho & sherren said, dont block those holes. And can also enrobe the tool w/ damp cloth 2 cool it

Go to sunway, ask those professional car spray, they usually have one sifu that does the airbrushing on cars. My friend did once on his Coolermaster Wavemaster casing, both side of the panel and top, around RM300-400. Excellent workmanship

Anyone knows any shop in the Bukit Bintang/Sg. Wang/Low Yat area that sells thumb screws for PC casing? I don't want to have to go to Ace Hardware in difficult parking places lime Mid Valley/One Utama/Ikano if possible. Thanks.

Thumb screws? Normal or the fancy type? Low Yat sure got one. Try @ Robyncom. They used to hav Sunbeam ones if not mistaken

those 'modders mesh' (as its so often called here) is not that easily available.... but a cheap way of getting it would be to go to ikea and buying them small dustbins...tong sampah... and cut them up...coz theyre using the same basic thing thumbup.gif

Good news for ppl staying in Tmn Mayang/Tmn Megah/DJ/DU area. I found a shop selling acrylic in Mayang Plaza named Wins Art supply. I bought 1 square feet for only RM6!!
*
Ha ha, I went to find that shop today.

They sell in A4, A3 or bigger size.

But only 2 different type to choose, 1mm and 2mm .

I got myself an A3 size acrylic, RM6 .. smile.gif

No wonder that shop sells acrylic, because it is beside LimKokWeng College

hi guys,

need some recommendation (especially from you Ianho tongue.gif)

ok anyway.....

i'm looking for a drill. a general purpose drill.

i would like to buy a drill that could drill through the usual casing material (steel / alu)

while at the same time could be used for other stuff, like drilling through a wall (concrete) or wood.

what brand is good? Makita? Black & Decker? (donno where to find Dremel in M'sia)

and usually about how much for a unit?

RTX2 is unavailable in Malaysia according to the B&D distributor. You have to buy an RTX1 and then buy a flex shaft.
I have one dead RTX, motor blew two times already. So now cannot RMA anymore. B&D's policy is you can only RMA for free once. After that, you have to pay for labour and parts. Eddy from Jaya DIY told me he can get me the motor only for RM180 and then i can DIY change it myself. But aint cheap also anyway considering you add another 100 bucks can get a new one.
Since I already have a Dremel MultiPro, I don't bother adi. Using back my B&D Flexshaft on my Dremel.

for acrylic, use a variable speed jigsaw, and use the slowest speed

high speed = friction = heat = acrylic melt = bad cut

U may PM me if couldnt find the acrylic near u

Regarding whether ur PSU can support 4 fans or not, 1st of all need knw how many amp (A) are they rated. Frm there can calculate power consumption in wattage (W) by multiplying w/ voltage (normally 12V)

Compare dat w/ the PSU's rating smile.gif

after reading this thread in office, went to tesco with my gf at puchong, dissapointed couldn't get any B&D, but hey got myself a cheapo brand (can't recall) a rechargable screwdriver and a jigsaw (rm60). but i couldn't find ways to insert the blade (bought B&D blades). it stated in the manual to unscrew the nuts with included spanner but it's wasn't included!! the box was sealed. damn ! it's true, it is best to get a good quality ones. less headache. the damn screw driver seems to screwed up with quality but not bad for beginner like myself.

anyway, back to topic, how much does a workbench from B&D cost? is the giant promo workbench reliable? and how much does a basic or reliable jugsaw from B&D cost? darn, gonna go to ace hardware afterwork later to grab a rotary tool.

btw guys, is it possible to make a mirror effect on plastic surface ? for example on the front casing panel / or speakers ?

thx in adv

tried it before. Strip the original paint, then paint 1 layer of primer and 1 layer of high gloss any colour and you'll get a mirror effect, only works for plastic surfaces, wat u want!

Hmm...doesnt the jigsaw has a hole near the handle? Dats where u insert a screwdriver to change blades

For the B & D jigsaw (w/o speed controller), the cheapest AFAIK is RM 190

For rotary tools and accessories, similar to Dremel, scoot down to Pasar Road In KL.
Brand is probably Protools. Look around I think there are other brands avaliable.
Accessories are as good as Dremel.
Good Luck with your project!

u could try changing the small little exhaust fan to a quiter one or add a fan speed controller.... maybe cut out the exhaust holes to reduce air noise.

just cooling the cpu alone should be no problem.

if u can find a htpc case that's able to mount a 12cm fan behind, will be great. then can get a better performance :

1) 1x 120mm Radiator
2) swiftech's micro reservoir
3) cpu water block that able to mount 3/8" barb.

otherwise, change all to 1/4" barb & tubing then all use quick release barb smile.gif

i'll try to show a pic tmr ..

Is this the stuff you are looking for?

user posted image

Believe it or not, I got this from Sim Lin Tower. It was 4th or 5th floor. The shop also sell lot of fans. It was 20 cents a piece and cut for 120mm fans. 80mm fans was also available.

If I am not mistaken, I seen something similar in Jalan Pasar as well, but those come with a plastic frame.

Sell it? No.

Is everybody here involved in the computer business? smile.gif

I am in a whole different line of trade. However, if you want a couple of pieces, I can spare you a couple. If you want more, I am going down to Singapore next week, and can pick it up for you from Sim Lin Tower.

Koie,

Sim Lin Tower, Singapore. Like a vertical Jalan Pasar.

That sponge that u mentioned fron Jln Pasar is very dense. It's gonna kill air flow big time. The Lian Li foam is really big open cell foam. Best to stick with Lian Li foam.

I'd like to mod my casing.

Like creating a window for my side and top panel, adding more blowholes.

Or maybe just mod my front panel, make some electrical stuff to fit inside.

Anyway, Dremel is too expensive. And.. instead of hiring people to cut for me, I thought might as well just get one tool and DIY. The cost would be about the same also.

Saw many use B&D RTX. Shall I get that?

Actually, my dad is in China now, I thought maybe I could ask him to buy there? How's that?

1.Most jigsaw comes with the saw already, the one that have more and smaller saw teeth are for metal cutting. But better get a good saw blade for better cutting quality.

2. For the rotary tool(dremel), it varies in price from RM70 for cheapo Ultimax, to Dremel which cost about RM500. If your looking for one, click on my signature cause selling off one.

Anything made by 3M is definitely good stuff. I haf tried it n it works real well. I use it for sticking chipset heatsinks n the heatsinks really heat up.

I've also tried normal double sided tape. The paper thin type that looks like ricepaper. They work really well too. U can feel the heat in the heatsink so that tells u the heat is being tranferred to the heatsink.

u wan a real BTX casing or u wan a casing that has BTX style aka terbalik casing???

if ur current mobo is ATX.. just look for those terbalik casings... with PCI slots at the TOP of the case...

real BTX casings will have the PCI slots at the bottom.... and ull require a BTX motherboard for it.

cheapest ive found would be the aerocool baydream which is around 3-400 bux if i remember correctly...

Anyone knows where to get wood, preferably hard wood (i dont know what its called) that's used for furniture making? The cheap type, not the multi-thousand dollar type. Preferably in the usual 4ft x 6ft size. I have something in mind after American Apathy is done. Thanks in advance.

As mentioned by zzzz52 , normally whn u buy a jigsaw the blades 'll b incl but whether those specially for metals comes 2gether or not is another question. And this may only apply to branded ones

U also 'll need a drill 2 make hole 2 insert the jigsaw blade & start cutting

Halo~~ wink.gif

Wht brand is dat? Surely gd one I guess for RM 16

For rubbing compound, try asking for 'car polish'. Or go directly to car care section of hardware shops. Normally it comes in a tin similar to grease or glue

I don't know either there are 25CM fan in the market...

But for 14CM, yes, they do, look for evercool or aerocool products...

IINM, icute does produce 25CM fan, but dunno either they sell it separately without their casing or not... laugh.gif

What about the AMPS, will it go sky high? sweat.gif

Just a few amperes higher than conventional 12cm fans, you'll notice the difference of you run your rig for 24/7 and when your electric bill comes wink.gif

To all experienced modders out there :

Any of you know where to buy acrylic cement/glue/solvent to join acrylics i.e. dichoromethane (or some call it methylene chloride)?

Help is much appreciated. Thank you... notworthy.gif

Got such thing... It's not glue per se. It's a solvent that literally melts the acrylic and bond 2 pieces together. Resulting joints are clean and clear without any visible joining lines i.e. looks like 1 single piece thumbup.gif

Have been looking around hardware stores but they don't know what it is. sad.gif

Ahhh... Bro.... Chloroform also can.. Which shop in Jalan Pasar you saw this ar??? Got address?? Thanks a lot thumbup.gif

Thanks for all the other replies.... I tried PVC glue. Works but the bond is very weak... Not leak proof. Apart from making a new case, extra acrylic may be used to build a small aquarium... smile.gif

1st of all, yes, dichloromethane was once used 2 bond acrylics but now substituted by other compounds (example : chloroform) as it has bn found 2 b carcinogenic.

Also used in paint strippers as mentioned by zzzz52

AFAIK, PVC Glue is for joining those PVC pipes. And Acyylic Solvent Cement is somtin' diff

Thermaltake"s dBA claims all bogus 1 lar. U really believe a 78CFM fan can be quieter than a 44CFM fan? It's impossible. TT uses a different type of dBA test to get lower results. They put the mic further away during testing so the test results show a lower sound level. Totally bogus.

Oops, thanks bro's advise.Yup, maybe the fan silent, but its cfm makes the air flow fast and causes the air sound. Better go water cooling, haha. Haiz , i found out Acryan Blackfire 120mm 29Dba oso 7Xcfm, but bro know where can buy? Coz it nice UV LED...

Read throughout the whole thread...B&D RTX is RM280-300 while the dremel is around 500....may i have the actual price? Where could i actually get this Dremel kit?

As you ask for cheaper...your work may not be decent....furthermore....motor's bearing might heat up in mean time...

Bombman can give you a hand on this matter i think...give him a PM...you might be getting better tool in cheaper price....

besides....does the flexi shaft comes with the Dremel 395? if not..how much does it cost if i buy seperately...?

Currently looking on Dremel 395 and B&D RTX....higher perfromance from Dremel but the price is higher too...

Regarding the flexi shaft...it's optional....if that's out of my budget...i may getting it later...hmm..but do you ever think of the tax issue? if that's really 1XX.XX....i might think over that....Thanks for your offer..

Besides...about the warranty issue...as told at Dremel's website..it's 5 years warranty...not sure about B&D(2 years?)....and for the warranty coverage....what kind of issue does it cover?

Just wanted 2 go 2 bed & som1 asked me 2 ans all the questions here. 1st of all I wont say anythin' bout pricing here coz simply not appropriate. Keep dat 2 PMs tongue.gif

akRia : DREMEL is a subsidiary of BOSCH. On whether which is suitable, I'd recommend starting w/ cheapo Ultimax. And rather than using rotary tool for sanding/polishing works, I recommend get the orbital polisher or drill. Makes life so much easier

For rest of questions I'll ans in general :

Both comes w/ 2 yr warranty but for B & D, it's 1-to-1. On wht's available & wht's not, it all boils down 2 SIRIM, Kastam & JBE. Cant simply bring in anytin. I may do a big DREMEL bulk in future for the benefit of our small modders' community wink.gif

Anythin' else PM/MSN/YM. 10Q & nitez~~~ rolleyes.gif

Hey guys,i just came back from NY yesterday. And while I was in Boston,i saw a Home Depot shop.So i went in and bought myself a nice Dremel Stylus.I'm just not sure i'll be using this for case modding, but i will use it for RC cars.I have a question, since Dremel accesories is hard to come by here, can it fit the B&D's accesories like all the bits(polishing, sanding, cutting). The collets i have is 1/8",1/16",1/32" and 3/32".Is this the size of the RTX's collet???Btw,here are some pics of my new bought toy.And btw,it DOESN'T cost RM500.The Stylus is 70USD,which is roughly RM280 (but it should be cheaper since Rm3.7 is 1USD) and the cutting kit and the 150 piece kit cost about 38USD total. So I spent about USD108 on this stuff, which is less than 400.I like it,feels comfy, and the motor is powerful.Still yet to test on anything. Here's some pics.Sorry for the poor quality and blurry pics.
