Excellent reviews. I'm quite suprised at how well the RE2's scored in comparison with the rest.

I'm curious though, discounting the shirt clip issue, how does the Q-jay fare on comfort?

RE2 scores a high ranking because it offers a SQ higher than its asking price.

Put aside the shirt clip issue, q-Jays should score a 4 star on comfort. The reason why it won't get a 5 stars is, the q-Jays' eartips isn't the most comfortable among all the eartips I tried.

excuse me guys but i wan knowif this the highest iem reviewed in this topic
why dont include the shure se530 or the custom made ue pro 11 or FreQ music maker or lovers
i believe these are among best iem in the market
I know these cost a bomb and have no resale value but currently there best in the market
and u cant get it made locally u will need to place an order and go for an ear impression then send it to makers

Here are the reason:

SE530 and Triple.fi 10 are both considered to be the best of universal IEM, you can't really say SE530 is definitely better than TF10 in sound quality. The most important reason I haven't bought a SE530 is because SE530 has very serious cable cracking problem. On average, the cable only last one year in active use before it'll crack and you have to send the whole thing back to U.S. to claim warranty - Personally, I don't feel like paying over RM1k for that kind of quality. The 13 pair of IEM in this review cost me >RM5k over the years, how many people in Malaysia invest so much money in headphone, left along IEM only? I'll really like to own every single IEM even made, but I have to consider my budget and buy what I believe is truly worth the money I pay for.

As for custom, it isn't just about resale value. Custom has a relatively short shell life - often estimated to be around 4 yrs or so. Our ears will keep growing throughout our life, and custom mold will not longer fit after certain time frame (which depends on how fast your ear will grow, but adult's ear grow roughly 0.22mm every year). Custom relies on a perfect seal to give you a superior sound, but after a few years the custom will not give a perfect fit anymore. I always keep my headphone in the the best condition I can, and I'll expect them to last a long time. To invest a good sum on money on custom only to realize they will not fit my ear a few years later isn't my idea of 'last a long time'.

There are a lot more to consider when buying IEM beside the obvious issue of SQ, I'll post my IEM guide (maybe) tonight. Hopefully you will get a better picture of how to buy, use, and maintain an IEM.

Thanks for clearing it up Cleo smile.gif
I am jus puzzled over highest iem that was in the topic
As for shure i also heard complaint about cable issue- they will stiff and crack over prolonged use and believe me i had these problem and had to rma back
But luckily they changed it back and they changed the cable to much better quality (april shure version)
this is my opinion bout shure i know they rolled off the high to match treble but in terms comfort they r best when pair with shure olives
Dont get me wrong i try the ue triple 10 pro and their sound was better and clearer than shure but i dont like they sticking out so much and some ppl complain over comfortablity issues and fitting

As for custom, i believe an adult ear will stop growing at certain stage at 28 or 30 and the only thing custom eartip will get lossen overtime over prolonged use
As u say earlier, they dont have resale value and get replaced by better version - (heard bout 5 drivers iem by japan) (2 crossover) brows.gif
Anyway some new iem like Qjays and westone 3 r coming nearby (The world is full of suprise )
Thanks for lending an ear and i believe it will help and clear any issue
Sharing is caring smile.gif

The ear canal might not change much after teen, but the outer ear will keep growing till you kick the bucket. If you are interested, here is a scientific research published last year, I believe. The researchers spent quite a long time measuring 200+ people since they were 30 till they are 80+.

The problem is, if your outer ear grow too fast, it won't hold the custom mold as tight as it can be in a few years and you'll lose the seal easily.

4 years is a bit short. After 20 your ears wont grow so significant, most people actually manage to use up to 7~9 years until they need a re-mold.

hi...clieOs
first off..excellent reviews.i've read ur thread in head-fi and now here in LYN...great job. notworthy.gif
following ur info in Earphones recomendation thread.i finally ordered a pair of Atrio M5 from Road Dog online in Ebay...
after been saving for the past few mths..lol. sweat.gif

guess the temptation or poison is just too much for me to resist after reading the reviews of M5... in head-fi.
personally am a IEM freak because of its portability...started off with:
OVC-TC20 which has good clarity and treble but light on bass. rclxms.gif
Shure scl2 with tighter bass, good isolation and built quality.(using it for my movies with asus xonar u1 external sc) wub.gif
V-moda vibe are lively and punchy.these are great IEM that hold itself well musically. thumbup.gif

read that M5 is a step above moda vibe...can't wait for mine to arrive brows.gif cool.gif
will give my impression when i got this babe.

cry.gif Sad to report this, but the right side of my newly purchased SE530 has developed connection problem. It seems that the wire on the Y splitter is faulty (I should have noticed it yesterday but the problem wasn't very obvious then so I thought the problem lied on my DAP's headphone socket). I already make a call to the dealer and he has agreed for a replacement after inspection. The IEM are less than a week old. Even with the burn-in and serious audition, the totally hours are still under 100hrs. It could be that I got myself a lemon, but I would expect something better. For that, half a star will be taken away from SE530's build quality rating.

Hi, I've sold my Ety and I'm getting this. It is called Livewires, a custom IEM, it is gonna be quite a long process. I've just got my ear impressions made and shipped over to the company for them to start making the earphone for me. Once they receive the ear impressions, they will start making one, it will take about a month before I can get them. This product has been claimed to sound towards Ety but with improved bass and high end Grados.

And here are my ear impressions, total of 2 pairs, hearing aid specialist or any audiologist around town can do these stuffs, I did this in a hearing aid specialist in Gleneagles hospital. Not cheap, but reasonable and they did a nice job for me. I've spend RM70 for these stuffs. I had a bad experience and mess from the first audiologist, I was not satisfied and I didn't want to sent those, so, these are my second try actually. Luckily the first one costed me RM20 only. And plus shipping, I've actually spent RM200 just for these impressions!

Sounds like you're describing SuperFis. cool.gif

Grados and Etys are like at completely different ends of the spectrum though, I tend to find Grados more coloured which gives it its fantastic adaptability to rock/live music while ER-4s are as transparent as transparent gets... ie. flat. yawn.gif

I wish I still had my ER-4Ps though, they were my main portable IEMs for a good 2 years before they got stolen along with my iPod. vmad.gif
