UTM has another new campus in johor? hmm.gif
tak tau la plak
*
the bandar penawar campus have been in development for a couple of years. johor state government felt that they could boost the development of penawar area by introducing a university there. this will inject more population and definitely boost the micro economy. since UTM is one of the biggest universities in malaysia and with the mothership being in skudai, they thought, why not offer UTM a place?

so the state government "awarded" the land to UTM. i heard it was free, but i dunno for sure lol.

there have been saying about who gets to go to penawar. the lecturers in KL would definitely dont wanna go there, while skudai have already settled down for at least 15 years. there's even a heated argument of who would be assigned to go there.

so from the news given, apparently diploma schools finally got the "prize". most of us simply dont think it's such a big deal. but there are a few who're furious about the move. kengkonon dah dapat dok KL tu, cool gila laaa. sekali kena pindah huluuuuuuuu...

Not easy to get 3.00 CGPA.But my bro said in masters studies they don't care about CGPA anymore.Either u get 3.00 above and get masters degree or repeat the subject again.

Oh damned.. if no lecturers wanna go there, then means bad lecturers only go there ke?
*
no laa... assuming what have been said is correct, then all lecturers associated with the diploma schools, good or bad, will get to have their fun in desaru. come to think of it, penawar campus will house one of the best environments - it's damn close to the beach! hari2 boleh tenet kat situ.

huh?i thougt azarimy is a lecturer at Skudai there?

Cannot kaotim with him ke?lulz.

hey u didnt answer my question yet,is there a hostel outside UTM compund??
*
i am everywhere tongue.gif. architecture have schools in both campuses, and in the future, in bandar penawar as well. so the staffs normally travel between these campuses. my family is in shah alam but i'm working in skudai. so i'm practically on both.

on another note, i'm not aware if there is a UTM hostel outside the KL campus. there are other hostels, but i'm not sure who it belonged to.

Oh ok then I print B/W la... BTW, i saw someone in LYN saying that last time he got 3.2 CGPA for his diploma and cannot enter degree. So even I get 3.2+ CGPA I am not secured a place in degree?

EDIT: azarimy, I saw your reply in the thread "huaaa cammane nk apply utm neyhh"... I got it already, but must I have working experience to have better merit? Why cant I like people study form 6 or matriks, after finishing form 6 then straight away enter degree (if good result and get the offer)? After my 3 years of diploma, I can't enter degree just because "tak cukup tempat kosong" or "tak pernah bekerja"? I thought I can just study all the way and the graduate... If it's like this I need to think over it whether to accept this UPU or not...
*
merit comes from lots of ways. but working experience gives the biggest non-academic merit. meaning if u're not top scorer (mind u, 3.20 is not exactly stellar), u can easily boost ur merits by working experience.

to secure direct intake via academics alone, u need to be in the top 10% of ur graduating batch. look around u. if there are more people scoring 3.80-4.00, u should understand what a chance a 3.20 has. so do note: there IS a direct intake, but it requires a lot. university co-curriculum is a bonus too.

the study diploma+degree straight from several years ago is the integrasi programme, which is different. integrasi is technically a 5-6 year degree course that automatically takes u in without having to go through UPU. it's like a 5-6 year degree, but with a break in the middle and u're awarded a diploma. this system have been phased out already, i dont think there are any integrasi programmes left in UTM.

so if u wanna study straight from diploma to degree, score 4.00. simple!

QUOTE(zellleonhart @ May 6 2009, 10:58 AM)
The CGPA is calculated since the first exam in diploma? Means if in one of my exams I get B or C (like got anything happened or only on that particular exam) will it affect my CGPA? And what actually included in diploma... I know A levels and Form 6 have subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Math, general paper, then diploma is straight to the "mechanical engineering" syllabus?

Forgive me for asking so many questions in a moment but I am in confusion T_T thanks anyway
*
CGPA is calculated since the first exam, yes. and yes, if u screw up one exam even with an A-, u can say bye bye to 4.00.

diploma syllabus is course specific. check on the websites, usually they publish a rough guide to the subjects. and it normally is very different from A-levels or STPM, although they might share the same topics.

Thanks for your info... Waaahh... Get one A- then no more four flat T_T I always get 70+ only for physics in my F4 and F5 year althought I got A1 for SPM... I dont demand much, 3.8 already thanks God...

BTW I heard people saying you pursuing PhD in UK? How's it?
*
i'm not gonna tell u that 4.00 is impossible to get. there are those scored 4.00 before, but all will tell u to work damn hard for it. and if u understand the system better, at least u know how to score 3.80 and above without killing urself or ur social life wink.gif.

yes, i'm studying my PhD in the UK, and i can tell u it is shit. dont fall into this trap! save urself!

u gonna have to ask other mechanical engineers or students for professional opinion. i'm an architect and a full-time academician, so in my own merit, i would say UK. better prospect, better education and hell, it's fully sponsored.

april to may is the worst time to apply for masters at any malaysian universities bcoz that's when the undergraduate application processing takes the entire attention of the university. most malaysians would be familiar with this as it is a sort of annual phenomena.

but i can see that u're from pakistan and might not be familiar with this. u might experience similar problems for any other malaysian universities.

anyways, u should have received a confirmation that ur application is being processed by now. can u confirm with me:

i. to whom did u sent the application form?
ii. did u contact UTM? if u did, to whom did u speak to?

do note that emailing is still considered as informal communication and is given lower priority as compared to a written letter or a phone call.

May be you're right with the fact that university is more focused on the undergrad applicants, but where does the support or administration go, one reply can impose a positive aspect of the university.

I have mailed by post to the UTM Dean alongwith the money draft / application fees to the university address that was mentioned in the application form, and my courier service has already responded to me that the documents were successfully delivered.

Now what a university should do is give an email reply or phone call to the applicant in confirmation but I haven't recieved ant confirmatory email from them ... vmad.gif  vmad.gif  vmad.gif

I tried to call once but no one responded. Well, i think email is the best way that you can respond to even after a week.
*
i need more details.

u mailed to the dean with the money? i might be rusty on the procedures, could u enlighten me on the entire process of application? i'm not aware u have to pay anything for application, and even so, it's not the dean who should receive that money. which dean did u sent the application to? can u give me the address?

if u called, what number did u call and when did u made the call?

prior to application, did u talk to anyone about applying to UTM?

okay, i'm officially fed up with the attitude. if u want me to assist, lay off the attitude. i'm not some dumbass moron born yesterday.

u need to understand something. education is serious business. it's not the first time that people have used the names of malaysian universities in order to scam people to part with their money. i'm not saying u've been robbed. which is why i wanted to clarify with u if u used someone as intermediary.

there are procedures and protocols to follow, and i need to clarify that u did this before i go hunt people down. it'll be funny if i start looking for people, and they start asking me back about ur applications, and then me having to find u back and clarify to them back again. so u need to be very clear with me about the details. u said u contacted UTM, but u still havent given me the details.

u want me to help, then help me understand the situation.

and finally, if u actually read the application page, it states the deadline for july intake is 27 february, which is more than 2 months ago. if ur application (which u said was submitted a couple of weeks ago) arrived after the submission date, it would be processed for next year's intake (2010).

if i understand it correctly, UTM guys tested their robots at night before the game. apparently this was not stated in the rules, neither was it illegal. it's just one of those things people thought they cant do, but the UTM people thought, what the heck, since it's not illegal and the field was empty at night, lets go and test it out! and they did.

other team didnt, and couldnt anticipate the problems or didnt have time to remedy problems with their robots. UTM being fully prepared, were jeered bcoz of their extra time spent on their stuffs.

all i can say is, suck it up, losers! tongue.gif

Hey arizamy, since you're one of the lecturers then I think you can answer this. Can we wear round-neck t-shirt and jeans while attending normal classes? And what shoes can wear?
*
no round necks in classes by default.

any type of shoes is OK as long as it covers the toes and the heels.
