In America it's even illegal to ask for marital status and age.
Aiyo don't compare Western countries to Malaysia la. Anyway on the semi-related context of qualifications, my aunt recently fired a new hiree cos he faked his degree credentials. Thing is, her company (big MNC) HR does not have a policy to check qualifications -- it's only cos she suspected him (cos he dunno anything) that she forced HR to check.
Furthermore the company I work in (Bank MNC), I know for a fact from contacts in HR that they don't check either.
So uh ... is it standard market practice to not check authenticity of qualifications?
