Take note:

Apple has posted a support document to help those having Wi-Fi issues with their iPhone or iPod touch.

You can read Apple's fix suggestions below and note that if all tips fail they suggest taking your iPhone for repair.

I think this might be the router's problem ..

I have a LinkSys AP router, i can find it but i could never access internet no matter what i set .. WEP or WAP or no password ..

But i can use my WiFi in Big Apple or Starbucks .. weird eh?

i've once compared N95 8GB with iphone 2G.

it seems that the N95 8GB have stronger signal than the iphone 2G, at least N95 can detect with 1 bar but iphone 2G was having a hard time detecting the same access point at same distance.

not sure about iphone 3G.

this is from my personal experience (and it is not supported by anything) but i feel that by A/U/J-ing an iphone 2G, the wifi signal seems to be relatively weaker compared an officially unlocked 3G unit (assuming what they claim is true that both are still outsourcing from the same manufacturer).

i have observed this by comparing previous wifi out-of-coverage areas (with my 2G) around my house.

ayai, how la to find an officially unlocked 2G version in malaysia? the closest thing which i can do is to find, for example is a uk unit with an o2 sim card roaming.

Added on October 25, 2008, 9:46 ambesides, i have read one article before (authenticity is not confirmed) that both 2G and 3G uses the same wifi device. hence only i came up with that theory.

thank you for not opening a brand new thread to keep this forum less messy.

may i recommend that you these two methods first:

1. load your desired wifi network -> Forget this network

2. Settings -> General ->Reset -> Reset Network Settings

then i cannot offer anymore solutions (apart from the dreaded restoration, which i will hold first). however if it is any consolation, when i patronise starbucks, i do have troubles "latching" on to its network sometimes.

Guys, don't be misled by the size of the iPhone's antennas. I'm certain that the iPhone's 802.11 wireless radio strengths, both 2G and 3G, are very much equivalent to that of an ordinary notebook's Intel Wireless adapter. And by saying that, I mean it in a literal sense when I say if your laptop detects it, your phone should be no different. wink.gif

In cases where you see any abnormalities in the iPhone's connectivity strengths, irregular connection drops even during use and even the inability to connect to a/an secured/unsecured WiFi-AP at any given time, your first shot would be to perform the "Reset All Network Settings" option as recommended by many others here. However if the problem persists, I have seen many such cases where it's usually linked to a corrupted or less-than-functional baseband. Re-Neutering it usually does the trick.

That's all I have for now. Hope it's helpful.
