guys, my friend just bought a honda civic 1.8 at around RM 113 K

He is set on converting it to a civic type R (outlook only)
so recently he went and get it sprayed championship white, bought emblems of Type R and red honda badge
plus he is gonna get the replica civic type R bodykit (spoiler, side skirts, front) at racing fit, sunway.

After this he plans to get the original civic type R white wheels from japanparts.com, will cost him around RM 7200 for a set of 4 including delivery.

So I calculated his total expenses spent, and its around RM 15K. The end product will look 100% exactly like the civic type R.

Bear in mind that the price difference between hoda civic 1.8 and honda civic type R is around RM 86 K.

hahah actually I think quite alot of ppl will do this conversion and in the end we wont be able to tell the difference anymore. They look so similar, plus the wheels and everything.

And if they tint their windows, u cant even see inside and tell whether the seats are recaro ones or the normal cheap ones. hahaha

its like having a pair of victoria secret lingerie...but have no boobs to show...oh well...people are used to having style with no substance anyways...petrol mahal...tak main Type R pun takpe

errr... actually type R is running on brembo brakes in front, not brembo caliper cover

and also the very visible ivtec meter light on the dashboard
and also type R got no fog lights unless u add them yourself

so unless your friend does that too, it can be very to see a wannabe from the real deal
just look at the brakes will do actually

Yep the brakes tell that its wannabe. Also the dash meter and interior totally different. One peek inside can tell its fake R. Pop the hood only...wah lau...LoL.

i can spot fake type-R in 1 glance
and pls your friend is misleading the ladies that think they had smoked a Type-R

You friend missing out, exhaust tip, smoke headlamp and brembo brake. Made sure ur friend tint till 100% else see inside already know is fake

LOL what's the point of converting to FD2R? end up kena smoke by our resident FD2 monster

In order to look exactly like the FD2R on the exterior, 1st you gonna get the whole set of original front/rear bumpers, sideskirts and spoiler. 2nd, FD2R muffler, FD2R ori 18 inch rims, front FD2R knuckles and Brembo calipers and rotors. 3rd, smoked headlamp and the side mirror. 4th, underbody diffuser which you could see from the rear. Finally, the red Honda emblem and Type R emblem.

brake system is the last thing to know whether the car is ori or not. like bmw m3 or m5...the bodykit is complete with the sport rims..somehow this ppl they dont change the brake..so we can know by looking at it.

Then get the engine and you're done!

agreed, i can tell a real or a fake fd2r in one glance.


but the ladies might have some difficulties though...

waitaminute. front FD2R knuckles cant fit the FD2 coz the front suspension mount are different mah, right? so how he gonna fit the brembos in the first place?

Not really, engine is 1 thing, the interior is another issue. The car need to be stripped off for to strengthen the chassis by extra spot welding. Interior black theme color on the dashboard, door panels, seats, carpets and etc like FD2R bucket seats, meter panel clusters and many more.

Erm, not really very sure but i know the lower part of the suspension is different due to different cross-member as well. Aiya, worst come to worst, customise the bracket to hold the bengbo caliper and rotor only lar.

Im waiting for my civic 2.0 and arriving next month, i was thinking so much of modding to type-r or mugen exterior, but after reading this thread..aiih forget it la...now mugen bodykit better...

not to make heat or fire around...juz its human's choice to live their life...its how they c things in their mind...from normal civic 1.8 to civic type-R already so many comment...sometimes on the road u c something tat will freak u out tat its not even a stock model for it...haha...so juz let the owners feel happy wit their modding...juz cheer for them...^^

Thats why, if wanna full convert to the typeR, do it the proper way. If not, dont be a wannabe, just mod the car according to your on taste and style. It will still stand out from the crowd.

Ya lor. You might as well get some Brembo GTs and a turbo...

You end up stopping as good as a Type-R, and going FASTER than one once the tarblow kicks in.

EDIT: I think just to f***ing prove a point I'm going to do it to my parent's company car. Nissan Sentra 1.8 XG-L. f***ing Brembos and turbo.

After that, I'm going to use my cheapass Sentra and streetrace Type-Rs. WOOT. I'm excited. LET'S GO!

Well, for the DC5-R full halfcut is definately cost more than 10k. For 10k, maybe you can get the halfcut for EK9-R or DC2-R only.

That includes the wheels, tyres, bodykits, emblems, spoilers...and spraying the car white

the rear diffuser also can find..
So basically the difference in price between type R and normal 1.8 is RM 86K
RM 86K - RM 15K = RM 71K
basically u save alot. The main thing expensive is the Ori 18 inch wheels.

For the suspension to lower the car, he plans to change the ori suspension to Tein Racing suspension.
For exhaust, as the 1.8 civic has dual tailpipes and the CTR has only 1, he plan to change to Fujitsubo exhaust or Greddy exhaust. (not very expensive)

So the final product will look so similar to the CTR, that i bet u will have trouble telling the difference, except maybe for the fake brembo calipers la.

Overall the total conversion price around RM 17K give or take. Includes a slight increase in horsepower.

Aiya speaking of performance wise, with the money u save, u can probably fork out abit and get a Bolt on Turbo kit for the K20 engine. He already got a half cut supra from a dealer last time, the 2JZ supra engine sitting at home.
He might transplant the supra engine into his civic, but most workshops around Malaysia dont have the expertise to transplant engines.

Er, you are like comparing the replica Gucci bag at Petaling Street to a real ori Gucci bag. Yes, price may differ and almsot look the same. But its a fact, the ori Gucci bag is the real deal to be own 1. The unexplainable x-factor.

2JZ in the FD? LMAO. You will have a FD that only go fast on straight and slow down hard on corners coz it will have a very heavy front. Mad torque-steer and understeer. Well, if that his mod, i rather take the real FD2R or get a real Supra for less than 100k.

Yeah it can fit I think, however u have to change alot of things la.. the ECU, exhaust manifold, wiring and everything.
Not expensive but very complicated process.

He's running on a budget and he was lucky to obtain the half cut from a guy who owes him money la.
Thats why he has the 2JZ engine lying around.

Hey, TS. Don't put a 2JZ in that Civic. FWD engine + drivetrain and RWD engine + drivetrain are totally DIFFERENT. You can't just take out the Civic engine without removing the existing FWD transmission.

Plus if you make a 2JZ Civic, it's STILL SLOW. The 2JZ is useless until the turbo kicks in. Once it kicks in though..., you get insane horsepower, but not much speed.

I know this because I've seen a 600HP Supra do a 1/4 mile in ~12 seconds, and then a 1000HP Supra do the same distance..., in ~12 seconds as well...

The initial torque is a joke on the 2JZ.

well for the price above, you still cannot get the strengthen chassis of Type R the tail light of Type R, the side signal lamp of Type R, the front HID light like Type R, the side mirror like Type R, the dashboard of i-VTEC like Type R, the Recaro seat of Type R, the engine of Type R

-new Type R K20A engine with LSD=RM40,000
-new bodykit of Type R=RM20,000
-new Type R Recaro seat=RM30,000 (Front each cost RM10,000, Rear cost RM10,000)
-Type R gearbox=RM15,000
-Type R strengthen chassis=no hope
-Type R suspension=RM5,000
-Type R coil=RM1,500-2,000
-Type R side mirror=RM2,000
so if you total up, might well get a brand new Type R

2JZ is more powerful than K20..., but at the same time, K20 is easier to drop into an FWD Civic than a RWD 2JZ.
