With the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots upon us, speculation surfaces this morning that Konami may be ready to unveil a new Metal Gear title for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) at this year’s E3.

“The game is titled Metal Gear 3: Revolver Ocelot and it takes place between MGS: Portable Ops and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. It will feature some scenes from the original Metal Gear.”

“The game uses a recruitment system similar to MGS:PO and the main character is Revolver Ocelot, looking similar to both MGS3 and MGS1. Big Boss is not a playable character, but appears sometimes during the cut scenes supervising the construction of outer heaven.”

Well, I doubt you can go online with the Asian players. Another option is, get 2 copies instead? =x One JPN, one Asian.

PA website says asian LE only got one bonus blu-ray so looks like no OST..... only US and PAL LE got that one, darn.... cry.gif

JP LE different story la since there is huge market for game OST there so no point bundling OST in the LE anyway.

Feels like it's more worth it to get the US LE rather than the Asian LE. I can't get the JPN one since it's in Japanese, no point.

actually, i'm not angry about not getting a tin case, but i disappointed konami used the tin case image in many of its initial promo picts. not fair to show 1 thing and then last minute change it to blu case silently without any announcement

dont feel bad acougan, konami did that before when they showcased early images of the silent hill 0 crystal that comes with the preorder of the jp import for SH0, the final product looks nothing like the early images..... vmad.gif luckily it only cost me USD69!

The above image is the US Gamestop exclusive, which will be a steel slipcase with Yoji Shinkawa artwork AFAIK. The bottom one is the EU version, which I don't recall them mentioning anything about a metal slipcase (?).

you know, actually I can't remember exactly WHERE I read that we have OST in the first place. If I read it from joystiq or kotaku then I must have read the contents for gamestop or EBgames, which is the US version all along!

IINM, the sampler OST was ONLY announced in US and EU territories all along

full OST is a normal priced item in JPN

the US gamestop artbook, i think don't really have "art" - only 3D renders

i'm only disappointed in no tin case and also no special cover for limited/special edition

So if getting the LE version, what is the extra price paying for the so call " making off " compare to normal?

If i had known this earlier, then I would have not preorder.

is a blu-ray movie disc (~2 hours) i think its region A (or most probably region free) disc.

not sure what is the spoken language but ENG subtitles should have

I screwed up. Acougan is right. Slipcase for both JP and Asia regions may not be tin. I looked again at the pics, it's the bonus BD that in a Steelbook case, like Acougan mentioned, similar to DMC4 Ltd Ed.

Regardless, the fact remains that there seems to be very little incentive now to pay such a high price for a so-called Special Asian Edition over the regular edition...

Anyways, going to bed now, don feel as excited now knowing that we are being some what ripped off.

none of Malaysia IP managed to get pass MGO Beta test cuz of filtering bro...

better ask those who played Winning Eleven 2008 online bout the registration expererience.

they said they registered in the game and no country selection needed.

Just be sure you get the same region with your country (Region 3 for Asia)to play MGO.

cuz they will check your IP....

It's really subjective to compare like that, but let's see:

US Ltd Ed DMC4: RM320 (but i used coupons, so it was less. Regardless, we'll go with MSRP)
- Game
- Steelbook gamecase, with plastic sleeve that went over it. (Lucky ones got rare signed Steelbook cases.)
- Anime DVD: 4 episodes, Cut scenes, 2 previews/trailers
- Bonus DVD: Making of, Soundtrack (partial), Art Gallery, Wallpapers, Avatars/Icons.

Asian Special Ed MGS4: RM299 (estimate)
- Regular case + Game
- Cardboard Slipcase
- Bonus BD: Detailed Making of...

It's hardly a fair comparison, but can tell you that I was satisfied with the DMC4 Ltd Ed. The Steelbook case is very attractive and different from regular editions, and the bonuses seem substantial enough to warrant the price.

I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill, but my issue now with MGS4's Asian Special Edition is that its current pricing does not seem to justify its value. Especially since other regions are getting more bang outta their buck than we seem to be...

The thing is, I think the game region has nothing to do with the Konami ID since PS3 games are TECHNICALLY region FREE

not only malaysia,

Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan which have PS3 officially launched also not in the list .

by the way, i didn't expect much from LE/SE from the very beginning.
so LE/SE for Msia official launching=Game+"Making of..." BD is predictable

but! if the "making of" is bundled with DVD instead of BD, even the guy like me with low expectation also got pissed off.

just don't tell me LE/SE comes with DVD, please...

but... I'm just gonna get the normal edition after all. LE/SE stays with lucky draw.

actually this IS the 1st ever Asian version of MGS console game. previous MGS1,2,3 also don't have Asian version - those psp mgs games got lar.

nvm ler, i realised this game was really developed with a super-duper crazy budget , if konami need to overcharge abit to cover their development cost, not much we can do. inflasi everywhere tongue.gif

i doubt kojima productions will embark on another such hi-budget game for a very long long time. jpn publishers will mostly focus on small budget games on nintendo platform for these coming years.

I am deeply saddened of the news about the Asian LE. Few weeks ago I posted here saying I'm cancelling my US LE pre-order to get the Asian LE coz I was told it will contain everything the US one has.

Unfortunately, the Malaysian gaming scene screwed my hopes. To the Distributor (Play Interactive), sorry but you won't be getting my support for future titles that you will be selling. I rather buy from overseas even if it costs more but I get what I'm promised.

I hope a lot of you who're going to TecAsia later will voice out to them to let them know to take us all seriously.

For those who are getting US version do remember that you won't be able to play MGO if you are in Malaysia.

Anyway, regarding the LE for Asia, I have been doubtful when I heard we are getting the OST and artbook.

LE aside, lets be happy that we are finally getting our hands on the most anticipated game for PS3 this month. (for me at least even though I am still feeling a bit bitter over the LE thingy)

I like to collect game collectibles and MGS4 LE has been on my list for a long time but it just left my grasp because of this screw up. If I knew earlier that the Asian LE won't contain all the goodies promised, I would've kept my US pre-order and save up some more money to get an Asian normal edition for MGO later on.

please.. its NOT an official launch if Sony Msia doesnt launch PS3(no offense) and its not up to you to decide whether Konami wants us to play or not
PLUS, if you had tried to register a Konami ID, youd know that not only malaysia is not on the list, HK, SG, CHINA, TAIWAN heck even korea isnt on the list as well
The possibilities are
1) We don't need KID for the full MGO
2) The region restriction is only built for Beta testing purposes to smoother gameplay or collect specific data
3) all those countries which isnt listed cant play MGO (which isn't possible the way i look at it)

BD are all region free, only thing different is the DLC
its the IP and the Konami ID, assuming we need one

If you have GTA4 in your hand, u can see that BD games still divided with DVD regions.

Konami has made the statements clearly,
the disc which have different region with the IP cannot play MGO.


just now sure if this rule only exist in Europe or international as Konami did this just to prevent Euro users from importing US version which is way more cheaper than they can get in Europe.

I think we should have called it Special Edition all along. That's the official name. We referred it as Limited Edition because we thought we were getting the one with the OST inside.

ok adding... nod.gif I'm quite sure it IS a blu ray disk, u can recognize the blu coloured casing for the bonus disk to be identical to the one that blu ray movies come in.

for me, actually i am not so suprised about the LE thingy, Asian countries has the lowest currency exchange rate, and Euro, being one of the biggest, not suprising they are getting the, ULTIMATE EDITION. Personally, when I get to my retailer, I will ask him if I can CHANGE my order. I paid like $100 for the game already, so instead of them returning my money, I just add several bucks for that Bourne game. Wouldn't it piss you off, after 3 months, Konami milks us again with METAL GEAR SOLID 4 EXPERIENCE, this time contains all of the special stuffs. Hey, it happened before, MGS was followed by MGS Integral (Japan only, in USthey released another disc VR Missions), MGS2 was followed by MGS2 Substance, and MGS3 was followed by Subsistence.

laugh.gif Welcome to the world of Metal Gear, where the quality is there and the bloodsucking is to the max. I am quite sure some ofyou will forgot about the LE fiasco after we play the game, provided if you guys play it rather than putting it on display.

So no soundtrack? Torrent'em.

It looks to me like they just ripped off all the copy from Gamestop's site. Who knows what they'll actually sell (if the site is not reputable...)

I dont see the need to blame the distributors. In this case, its Konami's marketing team is the ones we should blame.

My point in blaming the distributor is because they themselves announced a few weeks back that the Asian LE will be exactly like the US one only to say 'I'm not sure' a day before launch.

But yes Konami Asia is to blame as well for alienating us mad.gif

so that more or less confirms it then. Pity. I wanted the original CD audio format for the OST. That was the main incentive for me to get LE, to have uncompressed audio backup for OST.

but the time i placed my pre-order last week, Gamemart (PG launching's shop) have already told me the LE contains game+1 Video BD.
that's why i'm not so shocked to hear bout it when the uproar started.

Couple of my friend is from Uniten will be following me to que at techasia. PM me if you're interested.

BTW I think Im obly getting the standard edition. Dont think the extra RM 80 for the second BD is worth it. Can just be downloaded in torrent a couple of days anyway. As for lossless OST, I think what.cd does have the lossless version also. So wont mind.

85 US dollars for US LE (with art book, the making of Blu Ray, OST) comes to only about RM 275. We get less stuff for LE and we get charged for RM 299? There was very little news on asia's special edition until we realized it too late.

Ermm even the standard edition at RM229 is over priced. PA is around RM190. But I guess PI needs to goreng the hawt titles abit.

It's not being downgraded, it was like that since the beginning le. SUppose even IF the version with all the extras inside is being offered, then u wont be able to play online since it's region locked since that is US version.

y does it feel like the launch is getting less exciting?? Is it because the asian limited edition does not have as much stuff as other regions?? or because of price comparisons??

in MGS4 there are 2 new features added to combat:
stress meter
psyche meter

you have to balance them out.

IINM,when one of the meters(i think it's stress) is high,you enter a "combat high",and you deal more damage, have better accuracy,receive half damage,etc.
bad thing is,if you leave it high for too long,you will eventually break down.
and if you faint,you're screwed

I believe (if I'm not mistaken) that the stress bar replaces the stamina bar. I think it works essentially in the opposite way the stamina bar worked, affecting Old Snake's effectiveness if it gets too high.

I think somehow ppl go there intends to buy the game without bringing the preorder card...but i doubt it, since what's purpose for preorder card? just to eligible for lucky draw?
