What version of Linux is recommended to install on PS3?  hmm.gif

Not sure. Currently having issue with Ubuntu and Kubuntu. Can't get the wireless and the latest dist-update won't let u go pass kboot...

QUOTE(obee @ Aug 1 2008, 02:06 PM)
theres only a 2 sec difference in loading speed between 5400rpm and 7200rpm.. too much technical stuff to mention.. google it, bro  tongue.gif

upgrading 40g to 160g soon.

and here is my noob question. can you backup your data into an Ipod instead of any external hdd?

coz I've read somewhere that you can only backup into an external hdd with FAT32 format.  icon_question.gif
*
Yup, u can only into a FAT32 formatted drive and not NTFS. Not sure bout EXT3 tho. Just make sure your iPod is detectable and space is big enough. wink.gif

QUOTE(TheUndead @ Aug 1 2008, 02:18 PM)
oh sorry for not being more clearer, which one must be used for the ps3? 5400 or 7200 rpm hdisk? or either one can? smile.gif
*
It doesn't matter. But I suggest 5400 coz a friend of mine told me 7200 generates more heat. Mine is 5400.

Hi, r u a girl gamer? brows.gif

OK let me explain, HDD for PS3 is important because:
1) Some games need installation like the PCs do.
2) To store downloadable games from PSN.
3) To store downloadable demos from PSN.
4) To store videos (prefered HD videos/movies).
5) To store music (mp3s).
6) To store photos.
7) To store save files (no need memory card)
8) ... many other things

PSN is PlayStation Network. Its like a place to do shopping for games and addons.
PS3 is using wireless/wired. Up to you.
Have you done your homework regarding PS3? Please do if you don't want to get conned. Read the Beginners FAQ topic.

is there a way to move over the Other OS to a new HDD without reinstalling?

I spend sleepless nights getting the wifi and updates to work and don't want to start from square one again

Just take out the old HDD, replace with the new HDD, turn on the PS3, it tells you press OK to format, wait...then finish. No Problem thumbup.gif

Guys... for those who are upgrading their hard disks, make sure you guys BACKUP before pulling out the hard disk. If you pull out the hard disk, there is no turning back.

After you reformat, you can restore your stuffs by choosing System Settings -> Backup -> Restore (if I'm not mistaken). icon_idea.gif
