Ah ... but you bought it during the drop and not before the drop.

err... talking about the issue of average down ..... not saying Maybank is a bad stock or what not....
*
Yes...catching a falling knife. Is that not what you are discussing here?

Oh yeah... but you only said you bought during the fall. You owned Maybank shares before the fall?

The big point I want to share is average down would require substantially much more capital.

I did do a recent example based on PBBank ... post #2525
Do give/share your opinion. smile.gif

Yes. Yes. i bought during the fall. And yeah you need some capital. PLus holding power and patience.

... and then.... maybank not in crisis 'prices' yet, yes?
I dun see the logic in buying so gung ho now....
cos.... we still dun know the impact of the MCO lockdown impact .... how badly did it really hit?
but most important for the banking sector, how badly will the NPL be?
moratorium would  probably see a one off issue....
*
Not sure what crisis prices will be. biggrin.gif

Yeah....no need to be so gung ho. It has not really corrected like last time. Biting a bit here and there wont hurt.

Capital my friend....

1,000 shares here and there ..... is a lot of money ....  sweat.gif

my only issue here is the reaction to the impending bad quarters due to Covid 19.

And the P/NAV is still pretty high.

Well... exactly .... the impact of the shutdown of business and the potential is a huge Q mark.
Which is why I am here...questioning the wisdom of being Maybank now...
Anyway 2009.... long way from home. laugh.gif

But you have to have the capital reserves to average down in 2009... and some balls too... laugh.gif
*
Actually timing was great.
I was out of the market since for a bit. So there was savings to mop up some nice shares at the sell off.

Always good to have a warchest ready always.
Therefore, took some off the table at Rm9.

Balls...yeah. Did I tell you I bought my first shares with HSBC HK in 1989 during Tiananmen massacre? Think it was like HKD4 then. laugh.gif

Im expecting a 15-20% cut. Not as brutal as Singapore bank 40% cut, but still a cut.

Maybe down to 10 cents from the previous 25 cents. Its been bad 1st half.

1Q results were OK. 2nd Q will know how bad by end of this month. Anyway, likely banks will want to preserve capital going to 2021 because the economic damage of covid will lbe around until next year at least.

But 10 sen cut this Sept will be too much I think. We will know soon.
*
This is afterall an interim dividend. They could always up the final dividend if their finances permits.
If i managing, i would be pragmatic. But then, GLC is never pragmatic. laugh.gif

MBB follow 40% div rule right?
*
This is interim. They can adjust to that later. And i do not think its a rule. Rather a guide.

Have to take into account PNB/ASB as their biggest shareholder. ASB need the dividends to pay for its dividends.

Yeah. That's the reason. Politics.

That’s y eventhough it has good fundamentals, not necessary the share price will go up. It needs some breakthrough so more ppl will feel like buying it.

Think people buy it for the steady dividends. Bank growth is pretty slow nowadays.
