for LTE ,
i think FDD or TDD is not an issue for the industry rite ?
coz TDD will be support by most of the operator (at least at asia)

any idea will government allow wimax operator to use their wimax frequency for LTE purpose ?
*
I also believe FDD or TDD not an issue. Not sure whether WiMAX operators will be allowed to offer LTE service...

Actually P1 will get LTE license too if not mistaken
but the problem is the spectrum is very limited

The CEO of Maxis stated in announcement of its 2011 results that ".....our capex allocation for FY2012 does not factor in the LTE upgrade .... because the government has not awarded the licence yet...Should the government award it, which we expect by this year ..."
Hence, LTE licence would only be awarded this year.

spectrum license =/= LTE license

Now 9 companies have been awarded the 2.6GHz spectrum, but maybe only 3 or 4 LTE licenses will be issued. Companies which do not have LTE license must either sell their spectrum or be acquired. What can you foresee?

P1 merge with YES? P1 acquires Redtone? DiGi merge with U Mobile?

Black swan events. Unlikely Vincent Tan having regreted selling Mutiara Swisscom to Digi would now merge UMobile with Digi. All indications are UMobile is doing it alone. Hence, its IPO in the third quarter

From what I know MCMC issues LTE license and the right to use for 2.6Ghz Spectrum. (Since MCMC haven't make any official announcement yet due to they are reviewing Operator's Business Proposal , may be not all operator get the license..... who knows tongue.gif )

btw , Digi and Celcom already formed a campaign and most likely same for Maxis and U Mobile.
May be Wimax operator have to form their campaign also coz they having same license (Wimax + LTE)

From The Star...

To date, P1 claims it has captured a 34% market share of the Malaysian broadband market based on a 50% population coverage, thus giving it an extrapolated market share of 68%.

Green Packet selling P1. The Edge reported "5 parties have submitted their bids for P1. 3 of the bidders are a foreign party and 2 local telcos"

I guess one of the local parties is YTL

Green Packet denied anyone bidding for P1 and telecom also dismissed any interest but volume seemed to be going up and up. Is this the last hurrah for Puan Chan to unload after crying NIBT wolves too many times?

Anyone buying Gpacket will have to bear a huge liability of 900 mill.

Rizer read the news, Gpacket can only become a blue chip and recovers its huge losses only when a substantial shareholder SK Telecom takes over from Puan Chan Cheong lock, stock and barrel. After the huge run its back to low turnover today.

Yeah Management failed shareholders. Not mistaken they also got LTE licence recently. Have to wait for SK telecom take over the management, But will they?

they got a sub-optimum allocation of LTE spectrum. Unless, they collaborate with other telcos, they are unlikely to make headway.

Yes, Even Bukari's company has larger Band spectrum but no market as yet. Perhaps if he buys over Gpacket then it may fly.

Gpacket making loss for quite some time.
I think is time to sell some of it's assets to improve their financial position, perhaps selling off P1 is the best n fastest way for the group cheers.gif
