AirAsia to offer fares as low as Rs 1,000; may skip Mumbai-Delhi route
The Tony Fernandes-run budget carrier, which rattled the aviation ministry and some of the country's established carriers by announcing an airline venture with the Tata Group last month, will focus on Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and northern cities like Jaipur, Ahmedabad, top airline officials have said. The decision is surprising as Mumbai and Delhi are the most lucrative flying routes with all domestic airlines having a presence. But flying to these airports is also expensive as landing and other charges are at least 25% higher than other airports. The cities also don't have low-cost airports. "We are going after a pan-India licence and not a regional one," Suresh Nair, AirAsia regional manager — India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, said, explaining the group strategy. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/n...ow/18842413.cms |

Competition may force AirAsia to scout for new routes
Among the top 20 tier II airports in India, seven have no connection to Chennai and they together handle 11.48 million passengers or 17% of India's total air passengers. http://www.financialexpress.com/news/compe...-routes/1084538 |

Why Indian carriers may be gunning for AirAsia venture
The new airline, where Tatas and Bhatias are also equity partners with AirAsia, is speaking of consistent low fares as its USP—a space which the IndiGos and SpiceJets currently occupy. And they are unlikely to give it up in a hurry. A senior official in the ministry of civil aviation had earlier indicated to Firstpost that since the new airline proposes to bring paid up equity of Rs 80 crore, it can technically seek permission for a fleet of 15 aircraft. http://www.firstpost.com/business/why-indi...ure-652951.html |

Malindo issue some statement in their FB page telling they follow strict safety procedures & standard for their flight. Got experience staff to do work.
They are worried that the incident in bali could affect Malindo. So now more people will fly AA or go with Malindo |

AirAsia to sign US$1bil engine purchase in Paris
AirAsia will sign the deal with CFM International, which is a 50:50 joint venture between General Electric Co (GE) and Snecma. The engine supplier is the same party for 80 engines the airline had bought last year for its A320 aircraft in a deal which was worth US$1.6bil. A maintenance, overhaul and repair contract is also likely to be signed for the 60-odd aircraft, according to the sources. These 60 are part of the 100 additional A320 aircraft the low cost airline had ordered last December, but then it did not pick an engine supplier. The ordering of the 100 Airbus A320s was part of the airline's strategy to add routes and increase flight frequencies to maintain profitability against intense competition. |

AirAsia India team ready for takeoff
AirAsia India moved closer to getting off the ground by appointing S. Ramadorai as its cChairman, ending months-long suspense and having in place the entire top management team, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported. A day after getting Tata Group patriarch Ratan Tata as the chief adviser, AirAsia Group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes on Monday announced the name of Tata Consultancy Services vice-chairman S. Ramadorai as the chairman of his proposed low-cost airline venture in Mumbai. Subramanian Ramadorai was also formerly the chief executive of the country's largest software exporter. Ramadorai is the fourth person from the Tatas to hold a position in airline joint venture after Ratan Tata as chief adviser, and R. Venkataraman (former executive assistant to Ratan Tata) and Bharat Vasani (chief legal counsel of the Tata Group), who are directors on the board. |

CIMB Research advises investors to accumulate AirAsia shares
CIMB Equities Research believes that investors should accumulate AirAsia shares on the back of its strong fundamentals. “Investors should overlook the possibility that the 2Q13 results may not be particularly strong, as traffic volumes were affected by the May 5, Malaysian general election,” it said. CIMB Research pointed out AirAsia is more than just another low cost airline. It is Asean's largest, most successful, and probably most profitable airline. It added the Malindo impact will likely be less than feared, and problems in Japan and the Philippines are being tackled. CIMB Research said it learned the acquisition of Zest Air was yielding results as fleet utilisation was ramped up, and loss-making AirAsia Japan was likely to be terminated soon. “We maintain our Outperform call and target price (RM4) based on 11 times CY14 price-to-earnings (sector average). “The key catalyst, in our opinion, is investors' realisation that yield pressure from Malindo will not be as bad as feared, and that AirAsia will still be able to retain its pre-eminent position in Malaysia,” said the research house |

Thai AirAsia undaunted despite rise in competitors
Thai AirAsia is confident of maintaining its strong performance here this year, despite the looming launch of two more low-cost carriers - Lion Air from Indonesia and VietJetAir from Vietnam. The two foreign airlines are working with local partners to set up Thai Lion Air and Thai VietJetAir, with an eye to grabbing a slice of the growing domestic pie, fuelled by the tourism boom. The aviation business would face fiercer competition, fanned by the arrival of Lion Air this year. Budget carriers would definitely outgrow full-service airlines. The segment has grown rapidly from 5 per cent to 51 per cent of the total. Thai Airways International Plc, the flag carrier, will have to revise its strategy to cope with the changing business environment. |

Cost management to be key focus: AirAsia Group CEO
Undeterred by expensive fuel and limited infrastructure, AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes believes that the airline’s effective cost management strategy will allow AirAsia India to succeed, even if “the rest of the Indian aviation industry has so far failed to deliver”. According to Mr. Fernandes, the airline’s Indian venture will start “more aggressively than any of the company’s previous ventures”, with operations starting hopefully before the end of this year. “We want to stimulate the market while charging as low as we can go, even if that means initially avoiding pricier airports like Mumbai and Delhi. We need less fat everywhere, we will charge for extra baggage, and not go in for decisions like code share agreements which just add to the fat,” he said, while addressing reporters here on Saturday. “If people say the market is shrinking, that’s because other players aren’t doing it right. Being low cost is in our DNA… other Indian players gave up too quickly. The key for us is in our discipline and focus. India still hasn’t seen a true low-cost carrier, even Deccan got the cost management wrong,” he added. AirAsia India will initially start its operations with three aircraft, all Airbus, and plans on adding one plane every month. A large part of the airline’s strategy in India, according to Mr. Fernandes, will rest on the ability of the Indian market to adapt to AirAsia’s low-cost ways. Dismissing suggestions that the project was delayed by the government, he asserted that AirAsia India’s entry came at “the perfect time.” |

IndiGo Airlines may lose its commanders to AirAsia India
Besides a hefty package that AirAsia India is offering to the pilots, there are other reasons, like better working conditions, for these pilots to move out, say Indigo sources. "As many as 100 commanders have sought jobs with AirAsia India. And this is not only for higher packages, but also for better working conditions," airline sources said. AirAsia is expected to bring in competitive pricing in the domestic aviation market with its "nano" airfares and may pose a direct competition to IndiGo, which is the undisputed leader in the low-cost segment now. IndiGo currently has around 1,000 pilots to operate its fleet of 66 Airbus planes. Out of these, nearly 60 per cent of them are commanders. "An IndiGo commanders' average take-home salary is around Rs 3.20-3.30 lakh a month, which is below the industry level. As against this, AirAsia India is offering a take-home salary of Rs 4-4.20 lakh a month," sources said. |

AirAsia sees higher F&B sales with ‘Raya meal’ promotion
Its chief executive officer Aireen Omar said the promotion, starting on Sunday would attract more locals and foreigners to fly with AirAsia to enjoy Malaysian traditional food like vegetable Manchurian rice, Uncle Chin's sweet and sour chicken rice and vegetable briyani. "We will also provide nasi hujan panas with beef rendang and pickled vegetables and wajik as the dessert," she told a media briefing after the launch of the 'Raya Meal' promotion and the new in-flight menu in Sepang today. She said it was not easy to have these types of food nowadays unless you were in the kampung. Aireen said AirAsia has also introduced a new snack selection like yam cake, samosa with mint chutney and lamb kathi kebab wrap which would be available for purchase onboard AirAsia flights with 'AK' flight code. |

QUOTE(jeyakumar @ Jul 30 2013, 04:16 PM) Friends, bro, already got thread on AirAsia I am curious about your thoughts. Is Air Asia undervalued at 3.x? It seems like the airline is well run and has much higher load factor (meaning flights are typically full) compared with its competitors like malindo, and because its first mover advantage in ASEAN, it has strong customer base. What do you think? https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...4791&hl=airasia |
