2008 is a year of full potential for the game industry.....as several triple A games
has been or will be released this year. The industry seems to had understand the new technologies and power of the new consoles, though there is still a lot to achieve, a few game had already proven their worth....and others may achieve something else when there are released.

Below are some of 2008 GAME OF THE YEAR hopeful.......

FALLOUT3

Talk about long development, the last installment of this beloved series was released abuot a decade ago....Now after ten years of Sony dominated console gaming(not including the last two years). The guys at Bethesda has opted to launch the third chapter of Fallout.

The game centers around the player(you) that losses his mom during childbirth and lives with his dad until one day his father mysteriously vanished to the wasteland. Now its up to you to found out what's going on. Many gameplay elements such as Skills and Perks are still similar to the previous games while the character can play in both first-person and third-person perspective......The player will have a maximum party of three including Dogmeat(the dog:could be killed), himself and another NPC. The story have 1700 possible ending based on the good/evil/neutral events players trigger.......Hopefully the number 3 could do the same thing to this game as it did to a certain sandbox/free roaming/best selling/very well recepted game...

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

I had been playing this game since the psONE day.....and you could not imagine how excited I am when this game was anounced. This is the supposedly last installment to one of my favourite video game series ever, I was also somewhat dissapointed with Snake Eater that did not continued the storyline of MGS2 and cotained to much sex elements that I personally didn't like(I admitted I was turn onned though)....

user posted image

Snake, or Old Snake is once again tasked to resolved a world crisis and the sons of the patriot conspiracy.....our hero is now aging and disillusioned, this has been critised by some fans because they think Snake won't be as cool as he was back then....personally I apllauded that decision made by Kojima as it will make the story more realistic and satisfying. Players can play in first person perspective and can toy around with the new form of camouflage called Octocamo....Metal Gear Mk. II that player can control seems cool too.

All of the weird question surfaced by past storyline may finally be answered.

Grand Theft Auto IV

Well, to be honest.....GTA: SAN ANREAS was my favourite game of all time. That game was highly acclaimed being one of the best reviewed game of last generation(top 3 atleast) and was the best selling game of 2004, but it missed many Game Of The Year awards and ironically so was the last two entry in the series(Vice City and the ground breaking GTAIII).

user posted image

This year it might be diffirent and could be the year for GTA....A lot has been talked about this masterpiece before and after it was released, from the secrecy of the world the game actually took place in to the world record gross it has broken.. this game is still the higlight of the year to many. The main character is Niko Bellic, the city has been reworked, there's multiplayer, and you can find other gameplay and story detail at wikipedia, I don't actually recommend you find the surprises via online though...By now, the game has atleast grossed around $800 milion dolars and maybe could crossed the $1 bilion mark next month....

This game has stroked many controversies including the many perfect score it has received.....but so many of those reviewers could not be wrong can they...

SPECIAL MENTION:

GEARS OF WAR 2
LITTLEBIGPLANET
SPORE
Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Maybe we may even never touch many of the game that had been stated(games are surely expensive).....but atleast we can enjoy drooling reading about them online.

We are still early in the year , there might be sleeper hits , hehe . Usually all the blockbuster game start hitting near the end of year .

Though I would say , so far I don't think any games could out score GTA 4 . sweat.gif

Fallout 3 could be something big.
Starcraft II too.

as much of an MGS fan I am, I don't think MGS4 will get GOTY.

so far reviews have hinted it's mostly for the MGS purist, with all the typical MGS elements returning, which is a big no-no for the mass market, although MGS does have a large fanbase by itself.

won't speculate on what's not out yet, but as it is, I think GTA4 will have a huge chance for the GOTY award.

probably to a certain extent GOW2 and Fallout 3 will have a fighting chance too if all the hype is met. but we never know what might happen to those games as they're not out yet.

QFT.

Metal Gear is not the GOTY type of game. With its complex storyline and no guns ho approach, its extremely hard to be accepted by the mass.(we even have one mr. Yokel here as a testament on that laugh.gif ) Even though it has the cult status, its mostly kept underwraps. No party, no Hollywood actors singers that dont know nothing about gaming will be able be avaliable during its launch, only some skinny and sleepy Japanese men will helm the launching. No more than that.

well even though the odds are it aren't, I'm quite hopeful MGS4 gets GOTY status, it even got the theaterical trailer treatment from Hal Douglas as well. It has a lot to answer for since GTA raised the bar pret-ty high.

actually, GTA4 is just another GTA. The added elements? Multiplayer, but it was introduced in GTA2 (if memory serves me correct) and GTA Vice City Stories.Nothing really new for the game. Its GTA, so people go googoo gaa gaa over it.

Nothing really new? At first glance, yeah. But I think there's some improvements which I think are pretty worthwhile.

1. Euphoria physics engine, ragdolls now have self preservation AI built into their reaction. They cover their head when falling from impact, curl up their feet, etc.

2. True fullblown multiplayer for the first time on a non-handheld platform with 7-8 gameplay modes.

3. Taxi cab rides let you move around town a lot faster, taking away the tediousness of repeating missions and getting around.

5. Failure of missions impact events on a higher scale, i.e, getting roman killed will make u pick him up at the hospital.

6. Water and fire effects especially explosions are much more immersive.

7. Various new media introduced. TV shows, internet, phone calls to emergency services.

8. Car body now deforms according to degree of impact.

9. Social interaction with NPC, you can take them out for pool, bowling, etc.

10. Significantly improved lighting effects, with support for depth of field, per pixel lighting.
