I have a friend who claims he is very good at strategy games especially Warcraft III and won many tournaments (don't know what tournaments are that)....

So i went to his house to watch him play expecting him to have some nice micro, hoping to learn something from him...

Guess what... I ended up watching him playing DOTA!!!! For him, DOTA = Warcraft, and Warcraft = DOTA, he actually refers DOTA as Warcraft III. What a joke...

is this some sort of sarcasm remarks?

no... i just wonder why Warcraft III is such a failure product....
All my friends are no longer calling it Warcraft, they all call the game DOTA instead...

some of them don't even know "warcraft" this term although they are playing it everyday...

I think i am not the only one here...

because less people plays the original warcraft gameplay....
now everyone use to call DOTA...

My group knows perfectly well the difference between War3 and DOTA

I even have a DotA addicted friend who argue with me that DDR3 is the new GC from nVidia.Some of them are just brainless.He thinks he can play dota means he know all about com hardware.

Yeah some of them who have never heard of Warcraft series would make their own assumptions that DOTA is Warcraft. I wonder how can those people never heard of the Warcraft series

Maybe they're too young at that time or they arent PC gamers at all. Probably got hooked to DOTA through friends intro or because its the "in" thing for them

Haha...this is what i think about dota..first i hate the game...then i try to play because nobody play cs already in 2005 i think....when u know how to use certain hero what item to buy...u start like the game...then u kill enemy hero..ppl say u pro..then u go crazy with dota..after tat u spend every money u got to go cc to play..then when u see thread like this u will say....'u only say that because u never try or u dunno how to play'

different people different opinion if u dont like dont play...dont say it suck...if the game suck ppl will not play..almost all cc i go ppl play dota..and yet the game always update with latest map and stuff

Melee games not many people playing why?

1: already have many similiar games (eg : starcraft , red alert)

2: warcraft III already kinda old..

Im not DotA fan, but im really enjoy playing W3 rather than DotA (i already play DotA, not my type of game).
Its a good thing people still playing W3.
And yes, DotA is s*ck.

i play both dota and normal ladder games (melee).

warcraft cant be compared to redalert + starcraft simply because the other two games dont require the management of resources to play well. with starcraft and redalert, u just simply mass units. the greater the number wins.

with warcraft, having a larger army will make u harvest less gold and lumber. which means its a disadvantage (economy-wise) while an advantage (battle-wise).

so warcraft makes u think and plan when would be a proper time to go to a higher upkeep (bigger army).


and for your 3rd point, what do u mean fast?

clicking fast and clicking wrong is two very different things.


does talking fast mean u will talk wrongly?

or does talking wrongly mean u are talking fast?

I play both wc3 and sc, i think managing resource in wc3 is easier. Its the micro part thats hard.
With 5 peon for gold and 7 for wood, even blind ppl can see and manage that.

i think to be good at either starcraft + warcraft, your micro must be decently good.

the rest comes down to a slight bit of luck and proper timing + positioning in battle.

For my opinion is..
Dota = Move speed fast, your hero will die in 1-2sec.
Wc3 = Move slow, your hero can run here run there around 10sec then maybe die.

Dota = Simple control a hero with fully tactic.
Wc3 = Difficult control a lot army with fully tactic.

Dota = You can combine a lot stuff to make ur hero strong. Goblin Technic also can combine Divine Rapier to become crazy hero.
WC3 = You only can buy a few stuff, cannot combine.

Dota = A lot player know Dota then they only know Wc3
Wc3 = A few player know it but no try to play, coz it need build a lot building, army then you can win.

Dota = Player like to hear "Holly shit ! ! ! God Like"
Wc3 = Apa pun tak ada.

Dota = A lot verson, hero to choose.
Wc3 = few verson, even got new verson also nothing to add. a few hero can use only.

My opinion only la har... maybe got a lot.. dunno how to say.

anyway just to clarify a few things -

wc3 can be fast or slow, just like dota can be either fast or slow depends on the players.
wc3 game can take 5mins to finish or even 1 - 2 hrs. dota also simliar right?

u say in dota a hero will die in 1-2 sec.
can tell me how a centaur with 5k life will die in 1-2 secs please?


to be truly good at any game be it dota / cod4 / cs / crysis / halflife / quake or blablabla....
u need to play well and have good tactics. right?
dota only seems easier coz its one hero and not a whole army.
but to be truly good at dota (maybe competition level) u still need good technique and tactics ler.


true u can combine alot of the stuff but the gameplay is different mar.
dota fights with heroes while wc3 fights with the army. dun forget that.

warcraft has been around for 10 years i believe. do correct me if i'm wrong.

wc3 can be won with just a hero, or just a tower, or no hero and just units. its flexible.
can u win dota without your hero?

okay dota has alot of versions. but do u actually play all the older versions?
the newer versions is to balance out the heroes, items and the gameplay right?
i highly doubt that u go back to play version 5 or version 4 of dota. do u?

and wc3 there are many versions. as all games, there are many fixes to be done to ensure that it is fair and playable.
there are neutral hero taverns that u can choose your hero from.
so u actually have your four own race heroes plus alot of other neutral heroes that anyone can pick from.
this means u can actually have the same heroes as your opponents.
can u have that in dota? in competetive levels?

and btw, blizzard just recently they released a patch for ver1.22.
did u know?
