There were talks of him leaving his Everton managerial job to take up the vacant assistant manager post in Man Utd. Turned out to be bollocks though. He's just too good to be 2nd in charge and he's built a fantastic squad in Everton. Plus, Rooney and him hate each others' guts.

Manninger joins Juventus
Tuesday 5 August, 2008
Austrian international goalkeeper Alex Manninger has signed for Juventus and is relishing the chance to play understudy to Gigi Buffon.

Manninger spent last season on loan to Siena from Red Bull Salzburg and impressed in Tuscany.

The 31-year-old has now joined Juve in London and is ready to give his all to the Bianconeri cause.

“I am very happy to have arrived at Juventus,” Manninger said. “Here football really counts.

“I have gained a lot of experience playing for smaller sides but I was at Arsenal a few years ago and I wanted to return to a big club at the highest level.”

Manninger is unlikely to be called into action on many occasions with Azzurri No 1 Buffon holding the gloves.

“We all know Buffon’s ability and his role in this squad,” he continued. “Only one goalkeeper can play at a time but in a squad of 25 there must be more than one custodian and we have three.

“I’m ready to give as much of a contribution as I can make to this team.”

the only interesting thing about this whole affair (cristiano ronaldo) is proving just how shameless Real Madrid are when it comes to signing players. I believe most of the big clubs have their dirty tactics for signing players however most or all are very low key about it, just to avoid problems with the other clubs and to avoid humiliations (like Ramon Calderon having in his grave "the man that didn't brought Kaka to Real Madrid"). But Real just doesn't have any shame at all. They start preassuring the player through their horrible spanish media , then through their agent, then they have no shame in putting words in the mouth of the player.
no offense okay...

But as u said, most of the big clubs have their dirty tactics of getting the players they want...
Is already common for big clubs to do so...
imo, it's shameful for manager to be hypocrites...On 1 side, reporting other club for tapping their star player, on the other side, say ppl shameful for reporting them...not recent cases, juz look back at all his signing, which 1 he didnt tap from other club under ppl nose?

Bravo... doh.gif

Top Twenty Transfers Of The Summer (Aug 4)

Every Monday, Goal.com has been publishing an updated list of the top ten transfers of the summer. By popular demand, we will now look at the top 20, so as to do justice to all the key moves. In this edition, we considered all transfers officially concluded by midnight on Sunday, August 3, 2008.

The factors taken into account are

(a) form over the last 12 months,
(b) potential, and
© transfer fee involved.

The extension from ten to twenty was compiled by taking into account previous editions.

20. Gianluca Zambrotta (Barcelona to Milan)
Last Week: 18

Has been one of the world's best full-backs, but that was before this horrid two year spell in Spain. On the wrong side of 30, he hardly lowers Milan's average age, and one has to wonder if he will be able to turn the clock back to his form during the 2006 World Cup. But if there is one club where he will find the support, it is Milan.

19. Mirko Vucinic (Roma/Lecce to Roma)
Last Week: 17

The Giallorossi have finally secured full ownership of the Montenegrin, purchasing the second half of his contract from Lecce for a meaty 12 million euros. Is he worth 24 million today? Probably not. However, he has improved massively over the last 12 months, and continues to get better by the week.

18. Martín Cáceres (Villarreal to Barcelona)
Last Week: 16

The 20-year-old Uruguayan is regarded as one of the best young defenders in La Liga, and Barcelona wasted little time snapping him up from Villarreal. A touch overpriced at around 16 million euros, but a great signing for the future nonetheless, particularly with Carles Puyol beginning to show his age.

17. Tomáš Ujfaluši (Fiorentina to Atlético Madrid)
Last Week: 15

At long last, Atleti have made a good defensive signing - for free, even. They were in denial last summer when they failed to take concrete steps, but have landed just the man to lead their defence upon their return to the Champions League after over a decade. That he comes for free makes it even better.

16. Giovani Dos Santos (Barcelona to Tottenham)
Last week: 14

A rather opportunistic and clever signing by Juande Ramos, but he is a gamble nonetheless. There is a good reason Barcelona got rid of him on the cheap. His attitude had been a subject of concern for eighteen months, which saw young Bojan Krkić leap ahead of him in the pecking order. His impact on the dressing room had not made positive news either. Spurs fans must hope that was the exception and not the rule.

15. Hatem Ben Arfa (Lyon to Marseille)
Last Week: 13

Marseille have lost Samir Nasri to Arsenal, but have managed to land the perfect replacement in the man Arsene Wenger had his sights on to start with. What is more, they can keep him for a year or two, and make a cool 8-10 million profit.

14. Alberto Gilardino (Milan to Fiorentina)
Last Week: 12

On the face of it, it looks like the Viola have signed an unhappy, out-of-form striker. However, that was just what Adrian Mutu's move from Juventus looked like not so long ago. The fans will help him forget Milan in a hurry, and rediscover the striker that wowed Calcio when at Parma. The partnership with Mutu can be backed to produce some special moments in the Champions League.

13. Seydou Keita (Sevilla to Barcelona)
Last Week: 11

At the time of his arrival he was the best signing Barcelona had made this season, particularly in light of the way their soft underbelly was exposed on the road last year. With him partnering Yaya Touré in the middle, it will ensure that the likes of Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi do not get bullied, and also get the full license to thrill. 15 million euros worth their value.

12. Ezequiel Garay (Racing Santander to Real Madrid)
Last Week: 10

What a capture! Barcelona seemed to have him in the bag, but hesitated a little too much as they waited for Frank Rijkaard to leave and a new coach to take charge. Madrid managed to snatch Sergio Ramos a few years ago, and what a signing that has turned out to be. This one may be no different.

11. Deco (Barcelona to Chelsea)
Last Week: 9

On the wrong side of 30, a first look suggests that he is past it, but nothing could be further from the truth. There is a fire that burns in him as we saw during Euro 2008, and he has a lot more to give to football. He is not what Frank Lampard is, as he will never score as many goals. But then, he is also everything Lampard is not. Superb creativity, a great eye for the game, and an ability to run the show that has seen him win the Champions League with two different clubs. Finally, Chelsea have a player who can orchestrate the pleasing football their owner wants. With Ballack and Essien set to play around him, it will be an ominous midfield.

10. Amantino Mancini (Roma to Inter)
Last Week: 8

Jose Mourinho does not quite promote exciting football, but he does like a fast, aggressive winger forward at least on one flank. That is just what he has found in Mancini, who will be handed the license to thrill just as Arjen Robben was during the glory years at Chelsea. Tends to blow hot and cold, though, as Roma found out last season. Lack of consistency will not go down well with the 'Special One', so he does need to focus a lot more.

9. David Bentley (Blackburn to Tottenham)
New Entry

A great way for Spurs to show their ambition - by winning the race for the talented Blackburn winger, and in the process signing a former Arsenal youngster. Given what Juande Ramos did with Jesus Navas - a very similar player - this one has success written all over it. He has the potential form a formidable attacking midfield along with Giovani Dos Santos and Luka Modric.

8. Robbie Keane (Tottenham to Liverpool)
New Entry

Make no mistake, I rate him very highly. That said, the Reds paid a few millions too many. He will still score the 15-20 goals needed to complement Fernando Torres' 25-30, so Rafa might just have splashed the extra cash with good reason. Their draw happy start to the season destroyed their title challenge last time around, so goals is what they need, and that is what they will get.

7. Amauri (Palermo to Juventus)
Last Week: 7

The Brazilian-Italian striker made it to number three after earning himself a long overdue move to a top four club, but now slips down to seven. He has already shown his potential with Palermo, and the prospect of him getting some top quality service from the Juve midfield is simply mouth-watering. Champions League, here he comes.

6. Daniel Alves (Sevilla to Barcelona)
Last Week: 6

Chelsea, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester United – these are just some of the clubs that have queued up for him over the last 18 months or so. However, it is Barcelona who land him after some difficult negotiations with Sevilla. Perhaps a touch overpriced at 30 million euros (he would have been number one on this list at 20m), but then again, he is the best attacking full-back this world has seen since Roberto Carlos.

5. Samir Nasri (Marseille to Arsenal)
Last Week: 5

The highly rated French international is the latest to join the clan of young Gunners. Many view him as a replacement for Aliaksandr Hleb, while others go a step further and call him the next Zidane. He has had some problems with injuries, but let's hope those were exceptions as opposed to the rule. The prodigous playmaker is at number five.

4. Ronaldinho (Barcelona to Milan)
Last Week: 4

A gamble? Yes. But given the chance, would you sign one of the all time greats of football for a third of his market price last summer? You bet you would. At 28, he is far from over. Some diet planning and some tough training, and he will give at least three or four good years to the Rossoneri. A gamble nonetheless, or he would definitely have been number one. Number four for the Gaucho.

3. Luka Modric (Dinamo Zagreb to Tottenham)
Last Week: 3

The hottest young Croatian was snapped up by Spurs despite the interest of clubs such as Barcelona and Chelsea, and what a signing it has already turned out to be. Looks set to become the jewel in Juande Ramos' midfield next season. He remains at the sharp end of our list.

2. Aliaksandr Hleb (Arsenal to Barcelona)
Last Week: 2

A very shrewd buy, and what could very well turn out to be a stroke of genius from Barcelona. With Lionel Messi expected to run the show, what they needed was not a Ronaldinho, but a tireless, no-nosense attacking midfielder to offer support from the other flank - without hogging possession or the limelight. And they got him on the cheap too. A true critics' player in that while fans rave about others, he runs away with the technical plaudits.

1. Mathieu Flamini (Arsenal to Milan)
Last Week: 1

The underrated Frenchman was one of Arsenal's best players last season, and Milan's signing was nothing less than a coup. That it was a free transfer makes it even better. The smartest transfer this summer despite the number of high profile players on the move.

The top ten over-priced English players in the Premier League
August 4th, 2008 · 26 Comments

Proof that clubs are willing to pay much more for domestic goods

Darren Bent and Marlon Harewood

The national team couldn’t muster the will to qualify for Euro 2008, but somehow clubs continue to demand mega money for home grown talent. With David Bentley costing a princely sum, Gareth Barry’s non-negotiable fee and Andy Johnson’s imminent trade, it’s clear that players are far too expensive if they were born on this tiny island.

Hence, we think the time is right to consider ten of the most overpriced Englishman currently plying their trade in the Premier League, comparing their lofty prices with some better value foreign equivalents…

Shaun Wright-Phillips
Manchester City were heartbroken to lose their star player to Chelsea, but in hindsight getting £21 million was fantastic business. Four league goals in three seasons compared to ten in his last year at Citeh highlights his failure to step up.
Foreign equivalent: Amantino Mancini to Inter - £10 million

Owen Hargreaves
£17 million might not have been too steep for a 26-year-old midfielder, but his failure to dislodge Michael Carrick, his predecessor in the overpriced stakes, shows he has yet to live up to his price-tag.
Foreign equivalent: Yaya Toure to Barcelona - just over £7 million

Scott Parker
The midfielder moved from Charlton to Chelsea to Newcastle and then to West Ham for a combined fee of £23.5 million, but has still managed just three England caps. Injury limited Parker to 17 league starts last season, meaning West Ham are yet to receive value for their £7 million investment.
Foreign equivalent: Tim Cahill to Everton - £1.5 million

Dave Kitson
The ginger striker’s invaluable contribution to Reading’s relegation battle was to score just two goals in his 16 games in 2008. So how does a player who scored 11 league goals in two seasons suddenly warrant a £5.5 million price tag? Stoke boss Tony Pulis must know something we don’t.
Foreign equivalent: Cristian Bucchi to Napoli - just over £2.75 million

Dave Nugent
Portsmouth signed him for £6 million last summer but Harry Redknapp announced just over a month later that he would listen to offers for the striker. Nugent persevered and is thought to have turned down a move to Ipswich this summer. This season he is hoping to actually score a league goal.
Foreign equivalent: Guillaume Hoarau to PSG - just under £400,000

Darren Bent
If value for money was determined by goals in pre-season then Tottenham would have every reason to be delighted by their £16.5 million investment after ten goals in friendlies this summer. But it means nothing. After all, Milan Baros was a regular scorer in pre-season but rarely converted that into league form.
Foreign equivalent: Cristiano Lucarelli to Shakhtar - £6 million

Leighton Baines
Everton bought the left-back from Wigan last summer, but preferred employing Joleon Lescott there with Phil Jagielka and Joseph Yobo in the centre. He has yet to be picked in an England squad, with Chelsea reserve Wayne Bridge preferred, so despite his potential £6 million seems too steep.
Foreign equivalent: World Cup winning Fabio Grosso to Inter - just over £4.3 million

Curtis Davies
The deal may have been finalised this July, but it was last summer that Aston Villa agreed a fee ranging between £8 or £10 million depending on who you believe for the uncapped centre-back who, at that point in time, was at a Championship club.
Foreign equivalent: Slovak international Martin Skrtel to Liverpool - £6 million

Peter Crouch
The lanky striker’s international goal ratio of 14 goals in 28 games is impressive, but at club level his record is not quite as hot. So for Portsmouth to spend £9 million, rising to £11 million, on a player who scored 22 in 85 for Liverpool and had only a year left on his contract is quite a gamble.
Foreign equivalent: Luca Toni to Bayern Munich - just over £8.6 million

Nigel Reo Coker and Marlon Harewood
These two traded West Ham for Aston Villa in 2007 for a combined fee of £12.5 million, a fee that is heavy enough when neither have been capped by England, but bordering on ridiculous when you consider they were two of the Hammers worst performers in their relegation near miss of 2006-07.
Foreign equivalent: Roque Santa Cruz and Morten Gamst Pedersen to Blackburn - £6.3 million

What rubbish! How many positions do Yaya Toure play? Hargreaves has had more of an impact on our team than Toure has had in his time at Barca. Not withstanding the fact that every time Hargreaves has been match fit, he has been in the team so what cockery from the cock and bull source!

Ah Mr Copy Paster up to it again
How nice of u to post this here. It almost flew under my radar. Next time u wanna post something that criticises Madrid (regardless whether u copied them from somewhere) I would suggest that u grow some balls and post it in the Madrid forum so that everyone there can proceed to give u a nice welcome.
