known issue

All Systems

* Installing Firefox 2 in the same directory in which Firefox 3 has been installed may result in Firefox 2 being unstable (bug 423226)
* If Flash content is active when Firefox crashes, the Crash Reporter may not activate (bug 422308)
* Deleting an entry from the history sidebar, then invoking the Clear Private Data tool can result Firefox crashing (bug 426275)
* Some add-ons that depend on deprecated code may not install properly (see bug 406807)
* Privacy > History > Remember visited pages to "0" has no effect (bug 366075)
* The DOM Inspector has been removed and is now available as an add-on.
* Support for Cross-Site XmlHttpRequest has been removed until the specification becomes more stable and the security model is improved (bug 424923)
* After dismissing the "Do you want Firefox to remember this password" prompt, it is sometimes not possible to focus form fields unless you reload the page (bug 433942)
* The new Location Bar, Add Bookmark dialog, and Download Manager information popup behave inconsistently with Window-Eyes. JAWS 8.0 or better is recommended for this release candidate. (bug 393398)

Microsoft Windows

* A Windows Media Player (WMP) plugin is not provided with Windows Vista and some other versions of Windows. To view Windows Media content, you must install this plugin by following these instructions. After installing you may need to check for Windows Updates before the plugin will show content properly.

Mac OS X

* Items in the "File" menu show as inactive after using the "Print" item from that menu - switching to a new tab restores them (bug 425844)

Linux and Unix

* If your screen resolution is 800x600 or smaller, you may not be able to see the "Accept" button on the End User License Agreement. Keyboard commands can be used to accept the agreement (bug 433298)
* Ubuntu users who download and install Firefox may find that they cannot install add-ons without first deleting their extensions.rdf file (bug 433371)
* Users running Ubuntu 7.10 may need to update their certificate databases in order to submit crash reports (bug 407748 for instructions)
* The mouse button assignments for Back and Forward have changed, users may need to reconfigure their pointing devices (bug 420294)
* Incompatibilities between NVIDIA drivers and some versions of the X server cause scaled images to render incorrectly (bug 411831)
* The Orca screen reading software does not read some text, such as the save password notification, site identity information, or the default prompt text in search fields - these are known problems with Orca (see Gnome bug 533109 and 533125)

the Go button only appear when you're entering a url in the location bar

if you want it to appear all the time, you need to add this code to your userChrome.css file (in your profile folder)

CODE
#urlbar[pageproxystate="valid"] > #urlbar-icons > #go-button {  visibility: visible !important;
}

you can "force" them to work on Firefox Beta 5 RC1 with Nightly Tester Tools icon_idea.gif, for some add-ons, it'll work... and some, they just won't work/functional weill

guys, what do u all mean by FAST?
fast in surfing or fast in processing?
im kinda weird because it takes me up to 4secs to open this application. Meanwhile, IE8 only take me 0.5sec. im shocked because afaik, IE8 more heavier appz then Firefox.

Firefox uses more memory if your system has more memory available.

I am also having a 3GB system, and with Firefox 2, it exceeds 600MB at times.

But so far, my Firefox 3 (RC1) has not even reach 200MB memory usage.

Frankly, i'm quite surprised FF3 works even better in vista. Usually 10-15 tabs in XP will go around 150-180mb. Still those are quite good actually.

wanna used old add-ons in this FF3 RC1
try this

-type about:config at the address bar
-then warning mesej will appear, just click at button > I'll be careful, I'll promise
-then right click on Preference Name bar
-choose New > Boolean
-type/fill with extensions.checkCompatibility
-click OK. Then choose false.. click OK
-restart your firefox, and try isntall any old add-ons BUT used with caution, maybe some old add-ons have some bugs that can effect your security

I still prefer the old firefox, especially firefox 1, at least it use less ram. and furthermore, when I type the link, I would still prefer the old one, the one now, is quite space wasting.

i read that this thing just move the stuff from physical memory to virtual memory... so unless u run out of memory, u should not do tat as it will tax the performance...

mine doesn't at all. let say i got 3 tabs right, it'll run with 100k memory, after open a few more tabs it will reach 120k and when i close them, it still stay there... luckily my RAM can cope with it so this is not a problem for me =]

The memory have been constant around 100-150MB, no more, no less.
This is after a few days usage, around 15-25 tabs open and around 9-10 Add-on

Very good improvement if compare to FF2 IMHO smile.gif

very true indeed... other improvement i see is... the start up speed... unlike FF2 which took me like 50 seconds -- i'm aware that i'm on more than 25 extension intalled, but on FF3 RC1, same extension (using Mr. Nightly Tester extension too), the start up is almost... instantly

the -ve i found...
some of plug in (media player especially...) seems not compatible or i-don't-know-for-sure but in FF2, the very same site can be viewed without any problem...

Well, I won't say if it is better in Opera in term of performance or memory usage but the reason why a lots of people using FF compare to Opera is because of the add-on and all sorts of tweaks and trick to tweak the little foxy biggrin.gif It still can't beat the M$ IE dominance but it certainly have evolved into a very robust browser with the release of FF3 smile.gif

The addons are simply amazing, a few add-on that I would recommend:
1. NoScript - Best FF add-on, ever. I will never browse without this.
2. AdBlock Plus - Another great stuff. I have never seen any ads or atleast 90% of it since I started using it lol.
3. Tab Mix Plus
4. FlashGot
5. Foxmarks - Keep all your bookmark in one place. This is very useful if you have two computer and need to access the same Bookmarks. It will get your bookmark and sync it all the time, online. Very useful thumbup.gif

I also have 4chan, , Gmail notifier, Download Statusbar, StumbleUpon, IEtab, FoxyProxy and PDFDownload just in case anyone is interested

Sorry for going OT tongue.gif

Updated to RC2 using the update utility.

If RC2 gets positive response from testers, very likely RC2 will be released as the final release. Otherwise, we might expect an RC3 too. That will depends very much on the outcome of RC2.

I read somewhere that Mozilla plans to have Firefox 3 released in the middle of the month, which is more or less 2 weeks away.

Looks like Morzilla Firefox 3.0 is much more interesting than its predecessor, as always. Hehe. I’ll be downloading it soon and hopefully, there wouldn’t be any stability issues. For those of who you had downloaded it, mind sharing your experience of using it with the rest of us? Much appreciate.

I basically like the new address bar that displays matches from bookmarks & history as you type any URL or keyword. It matches the URL as well as keywords/title of pages in your bookmarks & history.

And next is the memory leaks evident in Fx 2 is very much gone in Fx3.

it's not compatible. You may want to force it to work with the Nightly Tester Tool Addon.

Otherwise, you can always go to about:config and make changes to your settings for the following:

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server
network.http.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
network.http.proxy.pipelining

Otherwise, you can always go to about:config and make changes to your settings for the following:

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server
network.http.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
network.http.proxy.pipelining
*
For more information & details, you can check this out smile.gif :-

QUOTE
network.http.max-connections [Integer] (48) - This setting determines how many simultaneous HTTP connections can be made by Firefox. The default is already 24, however for most people on moderate to fast Internet connections you can try raising this to a value like 48 or even 96 to allow for more open connections, thereby speeding up browsing multiple pages. The maximum is 65535, but remember that by raising this setting you are only raising the maximum possible number of connections. You aren't forcing Firefox to increase the actual number of connections it makes every time; if your system actually attempted to force 300 connections to open at once for example it would likely slow down to a crawl.

network.http.max-connections-per-server [Integer] (16) - This setting determines how many simultaneous connections can be made to a single server. The default is 8, however you can increase the value for broadband connections to something like 16 or 32 to attempt to increase browsing speed. The maximum is 255, however note that raising this setting to a high value (in conjunction with a high value for the network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-.* settings below) may be construed as a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack by some servers and your connection may be refused or even permanently banned. I strongly suggest that you keep this value sane. Simply increasing the number of connections to a server doesn't necessarily make things any faster, and indeed if every Firefox user does this then overall most sites will become slower.

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy [Integer] (8) - If you are connected to a proxy, this setting determines how many connections to keep alive at any time. The default is 4, however you can attempt a higher value such as 8 to improve browser speed. As mentioned in the settings above, raising this to a very high value will put additional stress on the proxy server and may ultimately result in slower browsing for everyone on the proxy and/or a refused connection.

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server [Integer] (8) - If you are not connected to a proxy, this setting determines how many connections to a single server to keep alive at any time. The default is 2, however you can attempt a higher value such as 8 to improve browsing efficiency. The maximum possible is 255, and as mentioned in the settings above, raising this to a very high value will put stress on the particular websites you are connected to and will either result in a refused connection, or slower response times from the web page for every person trying to connect to it. Do not raise this value to one which is very high as it is inconsiderate and counter-productive if everyone does so.

network.http.pipelining [Boolean] (True) - If set to True, this setting uses the HTTP Pipelining feature supported by some servers and proxies. This can improve browsing speeds, however because the feature is not supported by all servers you may experience problems on some sites with it enabled. I recommend setting this to True and only disabling it if you experience problems such as refused connections or unusual behavior.

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests [Integer] (8)
- This setting determines the maximum number of requests to send when using the HTTP Pipelining feature (see above). The default is 4, and the maximum possible is 8 (higher values are ignored), while a value of 1 disables pipelining. I recommend setting this to 8 and only reducing it back to 4 if you experience any problems with the Pipelining feature.

network.http.proxy.pipelining [Boolean] (True) - If set to True, this setting enables the HTTP Pipelining feature (see network.http.pipelining above) for proxy servers. This can improve browsing speeds, however because the feature is not supported by all proxies you may experience problems. I recommend setting this to True and only disabling it if you experience such problems as refused connections, longer page loading times, or unusual behavior. Note that network.http.proxy.keep-alive must be set to true for this to work.

network.http.redirection-limit [Integer] - This setting determines how many consecutive redirects Firefox will accept. For example if you click on an outdated link to a particular site, once arriving there you may be automatically redirected to the new address for that site. That would be one redirect. If you want to block sites which spam multiple automatic redirects (usually malicious sites), you can lower this value to 10 for example, or even less. I don't recommend disabling automatic redirection (i.e setting this to 0) as many sites use legitimate redirects, such as most Internet forums after you have posted a message. I also don't recommend raising this limit above 20.

network.prefetch-next [Boolean] (False) - This setting determines whether to use a Firefox feature called Link Prefetching. See the Neat Stuff & Conclusion section for a practical example, and why you may want to set this preference to False.

nglayout.initialpaint.delay [Integer] *Create - This setting determines how many milliseconds Firefox should wait before it starts to display the page contents. This brief delay allows Firefox to load and arrange the various page components as correctly as possible. The default is 250 milliseconds which isn't very long, but you can try setting this to 0 to see if it improves the responsive feel of Firefox at the expense of slightly longer load times. Some users report faster overall page load times with the default value or even higher, so experiment to see which value suits your browsing habits, and if in doubt do not create or alter this setting.

Hi all, I've recently updated to Firefox 3 but not sure of which RC, how to know that? unsure.gif

Anyhow, just last night I started to face with such problem (refer to attachment), I'm not sure if it is caused by the Firefox or something else. If it is caused by Firefox, I'll appreciate help from here. thumbup.gif

Do you mean you want the 'old' url bar like the one back in Firefox 2?
Please be more clear. tongue.gif I can't get what you're trying to say.

Btw, if so, you can use the old bar extension which can be downloaded at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6227

I suppose you mean clearing it when you clear private data?

When you clear private data including the history, it gets cleared but the address bar will still display matches from your bookmarks.

So what you see in the address book even after clearing private data is actually the matches from your bookmarks. It will remain there unless perhaps you delete all your bookmarks which I'm sure you wouldn't want to do so.

I don't think it is a bug, rather this is how the new location bar should behave.

Remember, it will show results from both history & bookmarks.

If your history is cleared, then of course it will still show results from bookmarks.

Yes.

You can also go to Help > Check for Updates and see if there are any updates to your Firefox installation. This applies to new RCs as well.

E.g. you are using Firefox 3 RC1, and checking for updates will result in RC2 made available to you.

If you are still using 2.0.x.x, it will not inform you of any new versions of Firefox 3 until the Firefox 3 is officially released.

Create a new profile instead. Backup your bookmarks and import it to the new profile also to ensure you do not lose them.

Unless you are using Mac, there is no difference between RC3 & RC2 on Windows & Unix platforms. They have the same build number.

are you comparing with RC2?

Unless you are using Mac, there is no difference between RC3 & RC2 on Windows & Unix platforms. They have the same build number.

my bad, after prolonged usage, the memory consumption shot up from 50MB to about 90MB by itself. so it is practically the same sweat.gif

the problem is, i have megabyte of memory sweat.gif only have 512MB to spare, if my mainboard has more slots, i could beef it up to 708MB, but sadly, the mainboard only has 3 memory slots sad.gif on the bright side, i am still using XP (not that i could use Vista anyway) so it would not lag that badly

There's one thing i dont like though. in firefox 2 when i close a tab, my new active window will be the window that i surfed before the closed tab. Now, the tab before the closed tab becomes the active window. That's kinda annoying for me.

It's because RC2 and RC3 are exactly the same if you are on Windows or Linux.

Only if you are Mac user, then there's difference.

Ehh. so i'm the only one with this problem then. Probably need to change my FF settings.

On a side note, FF3 is damn fast! Decided to test my new dl speed just now and woahhh 78mb/s? That's a HUGE increase from 54mb/s previously using tweaked FF2. 2 More days to final build yay

FYI, the final release on Tuesday MIGHT be the RC3 build!

In fact, previous Firefox releases have been based on the last RC issued before the final release. You will know by Checking for Updates, if no updates found, it means the final release is the same as the last RC.

Of course, again you can always check the build number... E.g. Gecko/2008052906 is the build number for RC2 and RC3 (not sure if the RC3 for Mac is the same).

If the final release has the same build number, it will mean its the same build as RC3.

Quite a number of people are pissed with the date system that Firefox/Mozilla didn't clarify properly when is their 17th June GMT based on. laugh.gif (which is, like stated, Wed 1AM)

But I pledge, and I will definitely be joining the download day. Not like those whiners out there, who can't do a simple search.
