Photography need to learn one meh?
I thought just make sure got battery and memory... and if possible some L lenses, then snap snap snap la... And can view back from the LCD... So if no good ma re-take lo... Sorry for making this noobe statement... at least it is how we stupid people think... For our standard, enought la... But if you want good picture, maybe need to take course la... By the way, I was told that Japan standard is high... So damn high that so hard to get a degree in photography... I knew someone already can take very good pictures on pre-digital age, but still have to downgrade to diploma because got difficulty to pass... You need to look for your own style to create that impact. |

then they come out with a degree in photography and can work as a certified professional photographer?
The course must have a lot of project-based modules.. |

Photography course not sure will it be useful for your future career. Because most photographers are self-taught and learn from books/internet. The only thing that I think is useful, is the black & white photography (where you have to do in a dark room, strong chemical smell). The rest you can learn from the internet/forums.
IMHO, I think this course is just a waste of money. You don't need a cert. to be a photographer anyway. Unless you are keen to become a photography lecturer or something. This post has been edited by zeist: May 14 2008, 03:45 PM |

A good course in photography (wedding, potrait, studio etc) is as good as spending on a good lens. That is why good courses are never cheap, and cheap/free courses are never good.

Advise needed.
Anyone here who is a photographer? Who works at publishing companies (newspaper, magazines, etc)? Do you all need qualification as in certificates or just a good portfolio to get the job? |

QUOTE(ronasdfghjklzxc @ May 14 2008, 05:13 PM) Advise needed. (1) You need good pictures (not from PP, or else you will be joke during interview)Anyone here who is a photographer? Who works at publishing companies (newspaper, magazines, etc)? Do you all need qualification as in certificates or just a good portfolio to get the job? (2) The assignments and projects that previously involved. Bring some pictures to show. Use some story to tell them on how you judge on what's important and what's to focus on before you shoot for that occasion. The expected difficulties and how you over come. (3) Some prizes that you had won. If you can take good pictures, getting at least one tropy a year should not be problem. Usually has certifications from various society. And of course the more difficult and regonised competion will help gain more impact. While I do not think certificates in photography course make any impact... unless from reputable academic... something like a university from Tokyo... Thier degree standard damn high until my friend have to downgrade to diploma... This post has been edited by TheVoIP: May 14 2008, 05:29 PM |

Sorry, PP?
OK, let me get this clear, does the industry really requires degree/diploma if you're going to be a photographer for publishing companies? Or they rather you have a great portfolio? |

personally, for me, if you are to get any course to improve your skill or learn about photography, then I would say, better don't... Learn from every photo outing you can get here, and learn from the people you know who has been playing with camera long time ago or maybe some seniors? hmm...
unless, you are taking the course of Photography, for the sake of entering BIG company to be their professional photographer or something relevant, then maybe yes... You might need a certificate to get in... |

Some even tell you that only 50mm is needed! Only from one event that I met a true practical master teach me real secret that might sound stupid to most of you; Get that damn 1D and a couple of L lenses... I now really realise what he met... The power of L lenses really make pictures standout from the rest! The amazing L color, the carity of sharpness and details and smoothness of background blur... And USM to ensure sucess rate of getting sharp pictures... It make you want to take pictures again and again to see its feel-good results... And yes, I think I do need a 1D and I know why. Now I finally started to understand his so-call silly words to many... but turn out to be actually the only practical advise. This post has been edited by TheVoIP: May 15 2008, 11:46 AM |
