Did you manage to install Ubuntu linux on the 901. I am keen to try out a dual boot.

It should be able to handle, I have tested but I am not too sure how high motion you R referring to. But WHY would you want to play a 720HD movie on this little baby, When ever I get some of these 720HD movie or even standard movie I recode them for my Palm and it play wonderfully. So I would do the same if I wish to see it on the Eeepc if there are frame drop.

There seems to be a lot of confusion on the 720P and the 1024P. As far as I know these rating are base on lines rather than pixel. My Samsung 42" Plasma is rated as a 1024P HD certified professional display and yet the display resolution is only 1024 x 768.

The best test is to download Microsoft HD showcase preview each is about 150MB to 300MB. The have 720P and 1024P and those 720P I wnload as to test runs without any frame drop but the 1024 you definately see that the eeePC 901 struggling to play.

So you should not have any issue playing on the 901 as long as you do not have disk space issue . So another + to get a 901

I find it strange, you want to get a notebook for heavy work force and yet you are choosing a notebook design for small size, low power, small keyboard with little storage.

I find that strange..... but if it is use for firefox, thunderbird and office 2007 then it is not an issue as it handle these pretty well. But you will have to know that the 901 xp only comes with 4GB and 8GB SSD (Solid State Disk) so you better review you needs and requirement.

We got the eeepc 901 because of it size first, battery life second and the SSD third. Not speed.

Hmm... so the 60GB is quite expensive. Ini macam I put the Touch Screen Upgrade first. With postage to Malaysia should be about US$95/=. Dun know if got tax or not.

After that have to gather up the courage to open and do some delicate soldering.

My one is from Hong Kong leh... so warranty is in Hong Kong. Anyway this is a hobby also and this is what I plan to do

1. Touch Screen ---- should be next week I order
2. Internal 3G once I sorted where to put and which USB Modem.

Hehe.... with the above mod I should have the perfect mobile unit. I just need to ask how is the screen clarity after the touch screen upgrade. There is a users that is doing it this few days and will seek his opinion.

Been running my Black 901 for the last 2 weeks and I do feel some kind of lag here and there mostly due to disk access, even though I had 2GB installed. After looking at the task manager, performance monitor I notice that the system cache did not increase even after the upgrade to 2GB. I did the following and now my 901 is running much more smoother and a joy to works with.

I added a RAM disk 128MB assign as X: where my Temporary Internet files is located, Windows temp and Users temp is also set to the X: drive. I download and install a registered copy of CachemanXP and increase the cache memory to much larger. Do take note that when you set the temporary internet files to a RAM drive you will loose all your cookies when you reboot which to me is good because I never like cookies anyway and also your histories.

What I had done above seems to improve the over working speed of the 901, nope it does not speed up the notebook but it sure cuts down the amount of disk access hence much quicker respond

Give it a try I am much happy users now

Hi,

I finally got sometime to play with the GPS on my little 901, I have a Garmin GPS 10x on Bluetooth. Previously I used Garmin nRoute for routing connected via bluetooth to the Garmin GPS. Just now I tested Garmin Mobile PC and WOW the screen looks exactly like the NUVI and with my touch screen on the way it looks like fun. A few screen shot here.









Looks great isn't it.

Garmin Mobile PC is meant for non garmin gps receiver also of cause that would meant you need to purchase their original software BUT if you search and search HARD enuf.... u know lah...

Yahh... right on the spot Grimm... me being a family man the 901 works just like a portable multimedia machine. The kids and wife can watch Video on it for a good solid 4 - 5 hours and no more complaining during long drive or dull functions. You are right the unit boots up real fast and what LAG are people talking about.

Sweet..... now I just received my touch screen upgrade from fido. It would be even sweeter.
