Hey guys,

Thinking of getting an M1330 but have a few concerns.

It seems like this thread is full of problems on the M1330. Are the newer ones with the LED screens less problematic?

I've also read in some foreign forums that the M1330 overheats very quickly and after a while other components starts to konk because too hot. Have you guys faced it before?

Is it 'safe' for me to get?

I'm thinking of getting one with the 8400GS card. Has anyone tried running any 3D animation softwares on the M1330 before? Like 3DS Max and Maya? I'll occasionally use it for 3D when I have freelance that comes in, and just want to be sure that it can run it ok.

Any help and opinion would be very much appreciated!

p.s. any recommended M1330 seller in LY.net? Don't want to end up with a refurbish unit or problematic one without a valid warranty. TQ.

It's always safer to buy online directly from Dell. Overall M1330 is a great laptop for its price. But yes, the only problem is the overheating part. My GPU goes up to 97 degrees when I'm playing COD4 and stays around 85 on average while playing. After using for 6 months my GPU died and I have to replace the whole motherboard. But good thing is that with Dell's 3 year warranty I don't have to worry so much. Just add about RM800 for 3 years warranty. The warranty includes accidental damage as well. If you don't play games everyday for 2 hrs like me I guess your system should last longer. And it's not that everyone would face this problem. I've heard of users with 8400M GS using this laptop for 1 year + without any issues. I love this laptop that's for sure. If there's no heating problem I would marry my M1330. biggrin.gif

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guys I would like to ask which version of driver you're using for your 8400M GS? Which is more stable? Or is able to run applications smoother? Any feedbacks are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The bios just basically makes the fan blow more. Nothing more, nothing less.

i used notebook keyboard silicon, which is just a piece of silicon, cut off the extra length and fix nicely. I used it because my previous silver keyboard buttons turned into yellow, which look awful. But dell didnt reject my request.
in your post above, your nvdia temp rises until 107? thats too much. mine temp always kept below 82 while playing any kind of games. For detail, im installed the lastest 177.92 driver for vista ultimate x64. Althought the driver is not recommanded, but who cares while still got 2 years warranty.

Just ask from dell for replacement any of the hardware they might doubt to cause of it. if mobo, make sure you get the lastest version of it. I forgot whats the newest mobo codes. hope someone will reply.

82 degrees? Can I have a screenshot of it? And perhaps tell me at that time what game you're playing and how long you've been playing? Use HW monitor. As far as I know if you start playing games like COD4, any stock (even A12 bios) M1330 will hit 90 degrees at max easily.

Im a crazy dota maniac, who can play many dota matches in one day, got a record of 16 hours++ playing warcraft in a day. But i got use zalman cooler pad for my laptop. guess that helps a bit too. i dont play COD4 or others, just i know that when i play dota, or even CT, my max temp is 82, donno got 82 ++ or not, cz after ended the game, i quickly press the window button, which exit the game and press the HWmonitor.exe. the temp shown 82, after a few seconds, it started to drop to 78, then 72, then 68, which is the lowest i think.
So, try to play dota and see whether my temp is higher lor lower than yours.
*
You won't get the accurate temperature by doing so. You have to LEAVE the HWmonitor on throughout the whole game and let it register the highest temperature. I doubt 82 is the max. Even with zalman cooler 82 can't possibly be the max if you're playing dota. I estimate at least 90.

long story short, Dell couldn't deliver on a certain expectation and did not honour their promise. so as part of a settlement to keep me happy and i guess to shut me up, we negotiated. one of the items they gave me was the bag. other stuff they gave was an extra 3 year warranty, extra 3gig rams, extra 9 cell battery, and creative audigy.

in the end got all i wanted and more. i'm happy with dell again  biggrin.gif

Holy crap? You got more than RM1k of goodies from Dell... zzz... so nice wor lol... Their business plan is pure simple... make sure their reputation is not tainted. Even though it means loosing revenue from a customer.

I have a question guys. The extra 1 year warranty given by Dell. Is it on-site or not?

Like me lor.. magnet came out. Go to the previous page and you can see the bag they gave me. I just write an email to them. Approximately 2 days later a lady called me and said Dell will give me a new nylon bag. It's just that simple. brows.gif

Currently I have a 3 year warranty for my M1330. Since Dell extended it by 1 year means I'll be having 4 years. I guess after 4 years my laptop should be obsolete already. I'll be out working anyway.

Are you prepared to endure downtime when your written assignment submission is right round the corner? Reliability has it's virtue.
*
Whether I'm prepared to endure downtime? The answer is obviously no. That's why no matter what work or assignment I'm working on, I have a backup to my USB drive. So I guess unless you're outstation and you can only gain access to 1 computer which is your laptop, it shouldn't be much of a problem right? I'm currently staying at home.. so.. no problem lor.. I have another shared desktop at home. And I can always use the computer at uni. smile.gif

Lame tak lepak thread nih. I think my mobo will go kaput again. I THINK. coz hear weeeeeee sound but so little just now. Nway, external HDD is a must for laptop user. For backup. Seriously! Just buy 1 la
*
Ha? sound? I don't think the sound is directly caused by your motherboard. Motherboard has no moving parts.. only your HDD and fan. So if you hear sounds then you better be prepared as chances are your hard drive or fan is going dead soon (if there's any real problems).

Just got my unit yesterday
2nd hand one tho.
Anyway wanna ask you guys. Is it possible to upgrade my graphic card even if my warranty is over already?
*
To my knowledge you'll most likely never be able to upgrade any graphic card for any laptop at the moment. The graphic card is soldered onto the motherboard. To upgrade means getting a new motherboard/ buying a new one. Most computer companies don't allow that.

3. Display Settings

Apart from that site, my dad also received a similar email stating that Dell is selling off their factory. Is this true or just a hoax?
