The Dell technician came to my college to change the mobo for me yesterday.
Well... Perhaps after 6 months my laptop gonna be funtioning without graphic card..
so the prob is .. Do guys suggest me to change another laptop ? cox i dun hv warranty after August 14th..

Also, is the dell 1 year warranty is of complete type ? whihc mena if i hv some sctches at the back.. can i ask for a replace ment.. ( the back side of m1330 is a sheet of painted black ink on its metal surface.. I urge every not to scratch on the surface cox it is easily tornable )

btw.. I'm supprised that Dell has not find out that the NVIDIA GS8400 is causing the prob for the laptop... and they are selling happily in their website.. Don't they noe that a single mobo for m1330 cost >RM1500 ..

Or.. hmm. do you think this is DELL strategy in doing this "unethical" business ? hmmm  unsure.gif

scratch, cosmetic/visual damage not covered in warranty.

can i downgrade my mobo...
since 8400 is defected
will they ever find out the solution for this
nvidia must be blame for this
huhuhu
*
nvidia wil not admit their fault and only pointer to OEM.
how to downgrade? buy second hand mobo and change the mobo yourself ?

always get latest BIOS upgrade will be the best. A12: http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/M1330A12.EXE

vista:
try go to C:\DELL\Drivers\R140135\ and continue the following folder, try to run a file named "inst.exe" to install driver. when asking to activate, just click cancel, it's will continue to complete installation. afterward, right click the BT icon at systray, turn on the bt adapter.

good luck.

Dell officially explains the faulty NVIDIAs >> http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/200...top-owners.aspx, which includes M1330.

Solution? A12 BIOS, which makes the fan go full blown most of the time. Noisier, kills the fan faster, and drains more battery... while pushing it out of the warranty time frame. Suggest extending warranty or "sabo" yr M1330 when it's gonna end for one last replacement  doh.gif .

Take note, it's NVIDIA's fault.  mad.gif
*
this is not a solution but they said is prevention or prolong your system.

QUOTE(mokh @ Jul 27 2008, 01:34 PM)
hoho..waiting for this.

i hope dell will come out with a long term solution as i can see changing fan behavior is not a long term solution for GPU overheat problem. perhaps, do a recall program to change the motherboard with the right GPU.
*
dell confirm definitely will not do a recall at this moment. no long term solution, dell will only solve the issue case by case basic.

what exactly do they mean as refurbished system?your xps or ur mobo?

if they refer it to your lappy, does it mean Dell notebooks from reseller/dist. are all refurbished? shocking.gif

as for the cooling pad, i'm thinking of buying Gigabyte Gpad Pro.anyone of u know how much is it? rclxms.gif

thanks
*
if you purchase new system and not satisfied within the period, ok may request refund if direct from dell.
1. but if you purchased refurbished system, then sorry. no such offer.
2. no refund also if you buy from retailer.

some of buyer kena cheat by some reseller claim as new system but in fact the buyer get the refurbished system with new system's price.
you wont if only see the outlook of system. so be careful when when not buy from dell direct. and again, dell also got refurbished but will tell you and the prices of course cheaper.

Chill dude, I'm not a supporter of Dell. I was just curious cause I thought u were mislead by a reseller and not by Dell but u boycott Dell too. Anyway I hope you can get a fair treatment out of your misfortune.
*
Yes, totally agreed. this is not Dell problem but is the reseller deal with got issue. be fair...

djlah,
if dell do not have probelm who do i boycott them, and also stated, u do not need to agree with me.

Today dell called me and they said even my warranties expired they would still replace the motherboard if heat issue still persist and melt my motherboard.
*
sorry, I din said agree with you **ugh** every brand or every model sure got some unit are defective, is only hows the failure rate. sumre is refurbish
I just agreed with SySTeM_eRRoR. for me, I wont buy from others retailer. I only buy from dell direct. to take the most important advantages.
which is total sanctification program, within the period no syok refund buy others. or after 1 yrs for example if dell failed to fix any major issue within 1 week, I may request whole unit replacement if after several service still cant fix. if buy from retailer? sumore is refurbish? hahah.... no such offer lol
just take this as "expensive" experience, check service tag before purchase.

dell is most responsibility on this hot issue, even this is nvidia problem not dell mobo bad. I appreciate it. others brands which is using same range of nvidia gpu, have some forumers here I saw, complaint for certain brand are totally no news to fix the heat issue. Again, regarding heat issue, not dell problem, nvidia problem.

yeah it's just bloody unfair.. I only found out about the defects after buying the laptop. It is a damn good laptop apart from the overheating gpu.

Regarding the 1 year extension: I still think that's a pretty fu*ked up 'solution' to their problem. What crap is this? I could use the laptop for 5 years but what if it breaks down sooner despite having that 1 year extra? Plus all the time+money wasted by us to contact dell and have our motherboards replaced. We should be given some sort of rebate or partial refund at least for all these hassle. What i can't accept is this-> despite knowing that their system is faulty, they still continue to sell and ship those affected models.  mad.gif  mad.gif
*
anyone know other 8series notebook on other brand had take action? like Acer, etc....

at least dell take some action regarding nvidia issue. for this case, I dun blame dell but appreciate that did not totally ignore even is nvidia issue. for those still not satisfied better dun use dell anymore, go and try brand like Acer, etc..... . call dell customer service tollfree return the entire unit and refund whistling.gif don't even think to complaint and request wat if after 5years still heat, because ever dell system max support to 5yrs only. afterward EOL. that's why we see the dell blog wrote max is 60months. let's see how dell plan, either 1yr extend or max up to 60months or others.

It's not confirmed yet.

Anyway, it's due to the faulty 8400 and 8600 gpu which overheats too often.
*
Yes, not confirmed yet. don't be so happy first. I guess only extended warranty for nvidia gpu issue, meant other failure still no FOC warranty.

QUOTE(5564321 @ Aug 19 2008, 11:40 PM)
Zzz...please no more nVidia gpu here, an ATI one would be sufficient!

Uhuh, Dell should redesign their heatsink and cooling system and their thermal pad so thick that block the heat transfer between heatsink and gpu. It is better than keep replacing the motherboard for affected users worldwide.

Yes, a laptop should has last for at least 5 years because not all people change their laptop in 2-3 years as it is not a cheap toy lol.
*
this will never happen as re-design which is need much more cost compare to replace mb only. furthermore xps m1330 already launch since October 2007, its time to launch new model soon.... but Dell still support until if you had 5yrs warranty max.

If you open your 'Dell Support Center' program you'll be able to find your service tag and express service code as well. I don't think there's an actual 'serial number'.
*
service tag = express service code = serial number

what I meant "=" is when you either give your service tag, dell will able to capture express service code or otherwise.

if your sticker at the bottom base already gone/missing, most simple way to get your service tag is, go to BIOS. can get from there.

about dell completecover warranty, can refer the dell website:

http://www.dell.com/downloads/ap/services/...Agreement/2.pdf
http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/top...c=au&l=en&s=bsd

easy to remember is standard warranty only covered normal hardware failure on functionality.
any accident damage can claim under completecover.

any act of god like rain, fire, storm....not covered for both warranty too.

hey guys, my laptop's remote slot look like damaged after I put the remote too hard, but the remote won't drop n can't easily pull out. Can I claim warranty for this problem???? thx in advance
*
if you read the T&C of warranty carefully. this scenario as you encountered are unable to claim warranty.

1. standard warranty only covered the functionality if faulty, not covered for damaged.
2. CompleteCover warranty is for accidentally damage/broken for example accident drop the system on the floor. Scratch, painting faith or cosmetic visual are not covered in CompleteCover warranty. Usage or careless used are not covered in CompleteCover warranty too.

just shared what I know unsure.gif

Hmmm, their T&C confuses ppl...as you can hardly judge careless or accidentally lol, when you careless about your laptop and drop it on floor, you can said it is accidentally dropped. If like that, just drop your laptop and tell them the remote slot or express card slot(correct name) damaged because of the drop @@
*
maybe over the phone you can tell differently. but don't forget that Dell can send the on-site engineer to verify what you said.
from David900924 said is the slot have problem. What I suspect is the spring inside of expresscard slot are stuck or loose which is fall under usage.

If you said you coz of accidentally drop until spring inside also broke, then the bottom based & palmrest of system will definitely damage/broken too.
If not then when Dell onsite engineer found is only spring inside stuck then Dell will send you a bill to charge you which is not covered in warranty.
the express card slot are integrated of the mobo ( estimated cost about 1k la... shocking.gif )

@ 5564321 & David900924:
not sure whether you guys aware sometime really depend on luck on replacement part. as the part might take from recon/refurbish part or new (T&C stated, no discussion or no complaint once you buy you agreed, all other OEM brand are using same method too), not 100% confirm as brand new as direct from manufacture as your notebook using now.
sometimes the replacement part might bring you more other issue.

Just had my motherboard replaced too due to the faulty GPU. Anyway my experience was I requested for a new board with a new revision and to check my CPU temperature problem (replace if necessary) but the technician brought a refurbished board with an old revision A00 even after confirming with me before he came to my place (I can even see the GPU had a bad solder job with marks on the motherboard). The CPU problem was totally forgotten/ignored and when I showed my temperature to the technician he asked me to make another report. After everything was done (technician left), I found that the laptop was not even anymore (the laptop rocks just like a chair on an uneven ground). The technician even accidentally hit the heatsink on the RAMs and the plastic cover causing thermal paste getting smudged all over the RAM chips and bottom cover (he wiped the cover but left the RAMs alone). Conclusion is I'm not happy at all with the service.
*
strongly advise to call back dell to inform not happy with the engineer service that "accidentally hit the heatsink on the RAMs and the plastic cover causing thermal paste getting smudged all over the RAM chips and bottom cover".

QUOTE(BlueHeng @ Oct 9 2008, 10:17 AM)
I would suggest that you make a big complain outta it on the report. Ask for new components etc. Who knows? You might get lucky.
*
according to Dell Term & Condition, customer do not have the full right to request new components. still want to try? for me I will felt like mempermalukan of the bargain (no offensive, just my personal thinking....) Dell stay firm, we can't do nth of Black & White. If the part replacement are still faulty, just report to change again if DOA.
