I face a lot of problem when I first use AVG, n my laptop gt infected by serious virus that disable my task manager, therefore I change to Avast home edition, but, same problem occur again...later, I feel so fed up with all those antivirus that I change to Avira classic, later, it happens that I was infected by "autorun inf"/"vbs script", which I've no idea wat n earth is that, nw I dunno wat to change to because I've no faith on all these freeware anymore. Can anyone give any suggestion of virus solution that doesn't rily require me to spend money?

If you really want freeware, you can use AVG, but must configure it to scann all files.
Remember, AVG=AntiVirus only. Install ad-ware for anti spyware.
If you use AVAST, Avira also the same. You must have AntiSpyware to protect you.

Install firewall also...

I suggest SafeSpace and Returnil. Any changes done by programs running in Safespace are eliminated at the end of session i.e after you finish listening to music or browsing the internet, and any changes made to system partition drive C are eliminated by Returnil after a reboot. Changes include whatever virus infections. Even keyloggers don't matter because internet access can be denied for whatever foreign objects running in your sandbox.

So clean and fast that it makes you feel like your computer is running off a reformatted drive after each reboot tongue.gif. Only disadvantage is it'll be a hassle if you update programs a lot. But this can be eliminated if you pay for programs like Shadow Defender or ShadowUser. Tons of alternative softwares for Safespace too like Sandboxie. Personally running Shadow Defender and Sandboxie.

This no antivirus approach made me feel paranoid for a few weeks but eh it pays off because there is no need for registry/junk file cleaners, defraggers and antivirus/spyware programs. Best of all, there is no need for headaches trying to remove whatever viruses found on your computer. Found a virus? Just reboot and its gone.

I should probably stop now. tongue.gif

Mostly deadly@harmful threat to computer is not virus, but other malware @ malicious codes. The most important thing to remember is don't download or run suspicious files in your computer. If you unsure, just send the file to www.virustotal.com and see the result and the desicion is there. Mostly the results are acurate, but there are possibility that it's a false positive.

And remember that there's no 100% protection for computer security, but never giveup on an security application if it just miss one or two "unwanted" programs. Choose what best for you based on your judgement and I recommend you to install:

1 antivirus, 1 online scanner, 1 antispyware, 1 firewall, and if you want more security but a bit hassel, IDS(intruder detection system) or HIPS.
And most important is your sense...

Is your version of AVG come with 'Live Protection or Real-time Protection'? I have been using original AVG for 2 years and have had no problems whatsoever so far.

I'm using zonealarm all in one firewall, antivirus and antispyware. Its good but
will slow down ur com. So there are pros and cons in using freeware and pay 2use stuff.

it seems u tried various free AV and still not satisfied .. so , my advice is to buy an antivirus .. It doesn't cost much .. I got Bitdefender Internet Security OEM for RM45 & Kaspersky Internet Security for RM 95 ( 3 Users ) .. both are good antivirus .. it's ok to spend little money on this ..

There is also an alternative solution. Most of these pests are written for a Windows OS, so why not try using Linux for your computer. It's free anyway.
