QUOTE(AdamG1981 @ May 18 2008, 03:04 PM) MAS should be quite ok... Since they've premium charges to cover their fuel surcharge. Airasia got nothing. Competition wise, MAS has more advantages than AA....While Idris is pushing the company from losses to profits, Tony is like headless chicken... Complaint this and that.. He should have spent his time to concentrate more to formulate strategy to counter MAS... |

And, with multiple airlines going bankrupt over the past few months, how could anyone like airline?? Dreamer |

QUOTE(dreamer101 @ May 18 2008, 07:50 PM) keith_hjinhoh, Yes, i understand that. I hate any GLC either. But when we're comparing, I do think MAS has better position to win in this competition. They are BOTH BAD for investment. If you want to goreng, that is another matter. And, with multiple airlines going bankrupt over the past few months, how could anyone like airline?? Dreamer MAS has very deep pocket And I see improvement in MAS If you read their Business Transformation Plan you will know more I do think they will success to push MAS back to track This post has been edited by keith_hjinhoh: May 18 2008, 10:06 PM |

Yeah deep pockets or unfair subsidies? I am very sure MAS purchases jet fuel for less than market value from petronas. Either way, both airlines are going to go through a very turbulent ride.

QUOTE(keith_hjinhoh @ May 18 2008, 07:08 AM) Airasia too has subsidies not just MAS Instead of subsidizing the airlines for domestic route, the government is best off investing those monies in roads, highways to connect all of West Malaysia, and to reduce traffic which hurts the productivity as a nation. I do think it's very fair for government to subsidies flights on non-profitable domestic route. OR, why not having an improved railway system? I would suggest the government to not waste money on a "service" that has nominal rate of returns to the economy. |

It's basically the same thing, if the route is so unpopular, improved railway is definitely wasting money too... Government have to strike a balance between citizen point of view and project return. |

QUOTE(keith_hjinhoh @ May 18 2008, 07:57 AM) Perhaps air transport is faster? Air transport is definitely faster, no doubts about that. However, if you take a look at US, ground transportation is an important artery of the U.S economy. (even though New York and S.F is 6 hours by flight, and almost 7 days by driving) It's basically the same thing, if the route is so unpopular, improved railway is definitely wasting money too... Government have to strike a balance between citizen point of view and project return. The reason why railroad is unpopular is because the government subsidizes petrol. IF we use the subsidies for petrol to improve our public transportation system like singapore, i don't see why we can't eliminate waste and be less dependent on oil. IT's a pity, we have more land than singapore but singapore's public transportation system is one of the best in the world. (alongside tokyo, hkg.)
