blink.gif Why do they hate animals? Are you sure they do? I suspected my mum hated animals because she never let us have any up until my dad secretly bought me and my siblings each a fighting fish. Now she loves the guinea pigs to bits. You sure they hate animals?

tongue.gif I have a nice tactic to use against your brother. Convince your brother that phobias are meant to be overcome. Tell him things like "what if your future gf likes furry animals? Can you tell her no and ask her throw away?" smile.gif It also helps if he sees you handling your hamster in a good way and your hamster is friendly and doesn't bite.

Worse come to worse, just put outside. Make sure it's well ventilated, out of sun and rain to prevent heatstroke and also sickness. I assure you they'll be fine if you can do the 3 things mentioned.

Just a tip but a very important one ok? If you plan to place your hamster outside, NEVER USE A CAGE WITH BARS. My bf had a really bad experience when he was younger. He had a cute winter white hamster. His mum says "it's dirty and smelly" (even though according to my bf, it's really not) so he had to place it outside the house. After a couple of weeks, he woke up one morning and found out that his hamster had died, the RIP way. In this case, RIP = Ripped Into Pieces. A cat had gotten into their garden and had somehow, literally, grabbed his hamster and tried to pull it out. Since it's too big to be pulled the whole way, the cat consumed the part that the hamster could be pulled out. That's about half the hamster. That leaves another half of the hamster trapped between the bars in a really nasty mess. It really traumatizes a kid I tell you. What a horrible way to die.

So when we had to keep our robos outside, we put them in a nice 3ft tank and DIY a cover for the top which is too heavy for a cat to remove and definitely not enough for the cat to stick its nails into. I joyously report they lived happily in there for 3 years.

So for my own opinion, outside factors other than heat stroke can be much more dangerous to your hamster.
