QUOTE(sangels @ Apr 24 2008, 01:47 AM)
Yes, they will. That's why you need to give 1 at a time so that they can not hide it but eat it on the spot. I've seen my hammy half way eating it and the other half still moving and drop it on the bedding yet the other half is still moving. I gotta dig out the other half with a scoop rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif Thats why now with empty tank and 1 at a time. In case it drop or they left bit or part of it and ignore it. sweat.gif  sweat.gif

Hide and keep is still ok, imagine again, they push the pouch contain out and hide it in their nest.... doh.gif  doh.gif  doh.gif so, avoid all that as they'll know the different, what they know is just all also food. rclxub.gif
*
Very good idea... That's why i also never throw those mealworms into their cage just now, i only bring Baby out to let him eat... but heheheee... he still doesn't know how to enjoy yet... sleep.gif

Maybe i will get a tank. But even with tank, i'm just thinking... hmm.gif will those worms climb up to the hamsters body and stick with them?? dry.gif scare later when i pick up the hamsters, i ter-touch the worms.. wacko.gif

Not all type of cat/dog food is good. Especially the pellets that can be obtained from supermarket. The ingredient is bad. Bad bad.

Try buying Science Plan, Acana, Orijen, etc etc. Some are cheap. Just buy the 0.5g,0.75,1.00kg packet. In Kuching sell it around 10-20kg.

This morning went to pasar and get some vegies and mix them with cat food to gutload the mealworms...

Goodness... i'm like someone who are raring mealworms instead of hamsters now... wahahaha....

Quite fun looking at them eating. And pity them this morning when i put in vegies and catfood, they eat non-stop as if they are really super hungry which i think they are really hungry... hahahaa, coz before this, i don't know that i need to gutload them and i only put newspaper for them... doh.gif Thanks for teaching me to gutload them... hahaha

QUOTE(Jamien @ Apr 26 2008, 01:22 AM)
blush.gif Hamsters are escape artists. Never underestimate the intelligence of rodents. Before I changed the lid, there were a few times when my family will wake me up at 6 am, yelling to me, "I saw your hamster running in the living room!". It really scared me silly cuz I was afraid they ran out the door. There was one time Yuu ran out and I couldn't find it for 2 days. I thought it escaped already but found it 2 days later trying to climb on the table to get to the tank.  sweat.gif I think it got hungry. Lucky it didn't escape.  biggrin.gif Kept checking the tank for holes but could't find any. Found them pushing the lid a few days after that. I never would have believed it if I didn't see it myself.

Then I took out the wheel to DIY a new lid for them.  rclxub.gif Feel like wanna pengsan when I saw them climb the plastic block house. It wasn't tall enough to aid their escape.   doh.gif Then I saw Fat Fat step on Yuu and started jumping jumping to reach the lid.  shakehead.gif Had to remove every tall structure in their tank to prevent their escape until their new lid was done.
*
Rodents are really clever... biggrin.gif do not under estimate them... Mine also sometimes keep biting their sand bath bowl, i wonder it will have holes next time sweat.gif sweat.gif

Hmm.. About the mealworms eh, anyone of you put them in fridge? I googled around and found that some did this and some not. The advantage of doing can reduce the food they eat as they hibernate.

So... Anyone doing this? They are finishing the food real fast hehe  sweat.gif

xSnail... if i really dun dare to fed my hamsters with the mealworms, i think im gonna bring those mealworms to u d... hahahaha sweat.gif sweat.gif
