I suggest that invite top Asian teams to compete in the grand finals (just like the ESTC 2008) to make the event will have coverage not just in Malaysia, but in different countries through gaming forums, community talks etc, in a way, a good publicity to SMM itself.
More prize money? This post has been edited by Iblis: Apr 15 2008, 08:02 AM |

provide them free lodging. Travel expenses subsidise them 20% or so.

Prize like last years, no doubt will be a lot oversea teams looking forward to join.
Suggestion- Quota for 4 - 8 teams for oversea team, im sure you all wouldnt like such huge ammount went out just like that to foreigners? Online Qualifiers, Overseas team required online qualifier, each team which join required to pay 50 or 100 usd. you can based on regional or watever. able to pay money for underminer for mashall during online, pay the marshall money bla bla.... (just do like mym qualifier) Make on 22 august - 24 august, at least its school holidays, 2ndly is near indepandant day provide food and transportation for foreigners since they did pay usd 50 or 100. local team, sorry, its our online time to earn foreigners money. Added on April 15, 2008, 11:49 am QUOTE(Iblis @ Apr 15 2008, 10:56 AM) unless the prize money is big enough to cover all the expenses, then I think they'll interested if there's an invitation. If not, I doubt they'll come. dun forget those top team got the sponsorship, no worry for that anyway, at least its a big prize, with asia and europe and america coming. This post has been edited by guardioo: Apr 15 2008, 11:49 AM |

However, it's not an issue for Asian teams. Cost to travel to Malaysia is rather affordable, so the prize money is more than enough to cover (at least for SMM Grand Final prize money standard) Maybe the organizer can collaborate with the Malaysia Tourism Board and have some sort of special rate for the participants out from Malaysia. I don't know, but it's possible though. With the current change of the Youth and Sport minister, it can be done. Nevertheless, thumbs up for SMM and their hardworking admins. Yes.. recently Youth & Sports Ministry has launched a program called rakan cyber.. What they r lacking is an officer to push for a e-sports games. By then u can have sponsorship from government and active tournaments.. but yeah.. it is easy to said than done.. but i believe it can be done if someone from KBS brought this up.. unlucky i'm in National Sports Institute..

The cost was not as much to Malaysia. For example. eMg Fire in Ice at Chicago, MYM only sent 3 of their Europe players which Maelk, H4nn1- & Mania, the rest were American players. They won USD6000. My point is, in order for the teams to send their teams to participate in tournament in Malaysia, they'll have to consider the travel cost and of course, what's the cash prize on stake. |

opening the tournament to foreigners will definately makes the tournament more competetitve ,higher level and more international coverage but this wont benefit SMM much as i dont think SMM have any interest/business outside of malaysia
by making the tournament open this will discourage local teams to join and demoralize them to play more dota as they would feel like they wont stand a chance to go far or win i think the purpose of SMM tournament is to attract and encourge more locals to play DOTA and thus benefit SMM from the licence fees anyway this is just my point of view and opinion i could be wrong but of course i hope that the tournament would be open to outsiders as this would make the tournament more interesting and the chance of Kingsurf to fight with top teams without any delay and lag This post has been edited by Flizzardo: Apr 15 2008, 03:06 PM |

Agree with your point of view. There's always pros and cons. However, if we look at Malaysia DotA scene in general, SMM already succeed with their goals to encourage and attract more locals to play DOTA with not one, but twice of the tournament.Heck, who doesn't know SMM 30K tournament in Malaysia? IMO, it's time for SMM to go global. More coverage = good for SMM company profile. It's a win-win situation. I don't think that local teams will feel discourage if they know international teams will participate, but more motivated. Who doesn't want to laugh at Vigoss in front of his face when you pawned him? Anyway, looking forward for this tournament. |
