its a proven fact tat its used by the technicians who service the ps3 to conduct the cleaning of the system..

so its pretty safe..

this dude is smart. thy got the 60gb and 80gb working too.. reason is simple. whn u tilt it in reverse the air which is supposed to get out cant... ence heating the system.. so it forces the fan to turn to its max.. cleaning yr system in the process

Erm, apparently, Sony does not encourage users to it themselves. Read it in one of the n4g articles.. lazy to find again...

..the fan spin like crazy, first time i heard ps3 made noise..but really blew out a lot of dust..

Nice solution, i tried twice a week. Work perfectly and become more coolness and cleaness. that is a nice function for 40GB. Cheer up

PS3 Fan test is Dangerous !
According the french site UltimatePS3, PS3 Fan Test can damages your system, the fans speeding up is a fail safe trying to get the bottled up heat out of the system, this can burn your CPU and GPU, this is confirmed by sony.

The fan test is only not safe for 60GB model.

It's safe for 40GB model.

I've been reading more about this and there are so many opinions. Some say it is safe for 40GB some say it will break your fan if you do it frequently.

So I'm using vacuum cleaner.
