I'm not sure what your needs are, but I'd say that if this is your first/only Mac, get the black MacBook... This thread on MacTalk AU would be a good read for you to decide.

I think you have to consider your usage of the mac. If you use it mostly for biz presentation and mobile travelling. then go for the macbook Air.

If you use a lot of CD/DVD resources, then the macbook Air may not be that ideal for you.

my parents agreed for Macbook , got to convince them to get MBA !

yeah first mac notebook for me

I have a question, since it is so thin, it must be really fragile isn't it ?

Possible to carry MBA with hand between arm and waist(body) ? ok stupid question, of course its doable.

okay i have nothing really much to add here . thanks guys

p/s : lailaikatong , thanks for the forum !

EDIT: any news about new mac notebook models ? besides the aluminium macbook . e.g, improved MBA ! biggrin.gif

Depends on your definition of fragile. The notebook looks sturdy in my opinion. Unless you plan to use it on warfield or something then you better get a Thinkpad.

Fragile means I have to move it around with GREAT CARE . Like not to fold a piece of paper. haha i guess not, i mean is it to carry around, like if i put it in my bagpack, and im walking and it moves around . how do you guys bring ur MBA around ? a notebook bag isnt really an ideal choice

You're not into software? Wow, do you write your own? Learn to support the industry dude.

I've seen a speck hardshell case for the Air at Machines in the Gardens. IMHO however it makes you look like one of those guys who NEVER remove the manufacturer-plastic from the interior of your car. I've used my Air nude for a couple of months and it still looks pristine. I would be miffed if I were to scratch it but neither does that stop me from bringing it everywhere I go.

If you're just going to baby it - kinda defeats the purpose of having an ultraportable...

I guess start up time varies and it depends on several factors such as whether automatic login is enabled, how many apps are launched at start up, how much stuff there is on the desktop, etc... Never actually timed it, but whatever it is the time it takes doesn't bother me that much as I seldom shut it down.. Just close the lid & go...

It wakes up from sleep considerably fast, and so far there's never been any instances where it doesn't go to sleep when the lid is shut which sometimes happens with the MBP...

Wow... you did it! Congrats Bro!
A few questions:

- what capacity SSD did you buy
- where did you buy it and how much?
- did u change the controller to SATA or left it at PATA?

Added on June 5, 2008, 1:31 pmAny feedback on heat issue? I read in other forums that there is very bad heat issue... some ppl say after 10.5.3 is better, other ppl say no change. Some run Coolbook, some don't. Basically, from those ppl who experience heat issue, it can become core shutdown? If you use your MBA without aircon is it a problem?
