Maybe I'll find it out sooner or later smile.gif.But I'm interested to know, if I exceed 3gb , how slow will it be? Will it be slower than streamyx 1mbps ?

I'm now refraining from heavy downloading smile.gif. If download , I will use streamyx, if playing games, I will use maxis. Gonna terminate streamyx very soon since it is very slow in my area.
*
Wrong choice. both download and playing games are not Maxis BB strong point. Reason, for gaming, u need low latency. 3G broadband (or any wireless broadband for that matter) have higher than yr typical adsl (streamyx), between 100~300ms. Adsl latency typically is lower and therefore, less lag or the usual term for online gamers is delay. If u play latency sensitive games like CS:Source or WC3, you'll understand latency importance perfectly. So, i cant see yr reason to use Maxis for gaming.

For download, assuming u are running BT (i dunno xunlei, since i am half chinese retarded), Maxis blocked most trackers at all time, except from 1am until 6am (not sure, usually sleep and let it run on its own). SOO...what blocked tracker means is that, unless the torrent file u are downloading allows DHT or public tracker (most sub-bers block this, example dattebayo), yr download probably wont move at all until 1am. But if the torrent allows public tracker and DHT, then no problem. my maxis experiance has seen stable speed faster than typical streamyx. 50+kbps with only few seeders, and most of the time exceed 100 when private trackers are unblocked at 1am.

conclusion, i think u r trying maxis for the wrong reasons. if i could use streamyx back, for your two same reason i will use back streamyx. (but unfortunately i cant becoz phone line KO-ed).

fyi, the capped speed is 0.06 mbps, that is equivalent to our old 56kb modem. the only way to bypass this has alraedy been shared by other ppl, but it is a tedious task of try and error. what i can say is, already been there, done that. its not worth my time so i rather make a long complaint to waive the termination fee.

usnig other ISP now, which also have a long list of haters, but at least for me its the closest competitor to streamyx right now. Maxis would be among the best if they did not enforce 3GB as their FUP, becoz at full capacity, the stable speed is best i have used so far, at least at consumer level.

Thanks for your opinion.
I also noticed that the latency is high for gaming. Although the downloading speed is high, the game still lags at times. one of the reason that I want to swtich isp is that Streamyx in my area is awefully slow. I could only experience smooth gaming and downloading at midnight. Normal browsing is also slow. (only google is fast).

I was thinking of dropping maxis broadband since i know im going to be capped sooner or later. Today is my 2nd day of using it and i have reached 0.67GB already. Normal browsing and downloading ( 2 files , each abt 60mb)... the rest is streaming at youtube.

Would you suggest that I try to download heavily until 3GB and see if there is capping before I return it to them? If no capping occurs, like others (areas which have little maxis users (my area most ppl are using streamyx, not sure about maxis though), I think i would continue subscribing to it.

Would you mind sharing the isp you are using currently?
*
well, u can try to reach 3GB in the trial period, but chances are they wont cap you so soon yet. mine happened on the 3rd month. 1st 2 months i was singing praises for it, hahaha...irony. 3rd month cursing, 4th month accepting, now 5th month already used to its ups and downs.

but since i am happy with the other isp that i tested, i decided to terminate maxis. it was good while it lasted, but it has too many restriction (blocked tracker, 3Gb FUP, unreasonably low cap speed etc etc) even when we as consumer already compromise so much. we have only that much of patience you see. sure, there are ways to escape speed cap, but since we r already paying...i dont see whats the point for us with all the trouble.

am using the isp with 20GB FUP, and speed cap that is reasonable if u exceed it. search around and you'll find the isp with this terms.

Thanks for your info, too bad p1 still isn't on coverage while there is coverage 1.5 miles away, maybe near.
I was thinking of exceeding the 3GB and see how slow is the capped speed but maybe they will not do it as i think it is one of their tactical move. I guess i would download more and return them on the 6th day and look for other broadband, preferable wired for gaming.
*
no worries. i dont have to pay for sharing my experiance...=)

yeah, for gaming....wired broadband win hands down. until we have any form of cable internet or equivalent, streamyx is still the best of the worst, for balance of gaming & download. the only competitions are other isp with wired services, but sadly is still very limited both in provider and also area coverage.

that's true... I'm now using streamyx 1mbps but it is slow as snail most of the time. I have been waiting for penangfon to set up in my area but 2 years have passed and it is still under construction.

Just now i saw someone's post that states maxis wireless bb has actually got 20gb bandwidth limit, not the 3gb as stated in term and condition. No idea if it is true though smile.gif Anyway, maxis is not appropriate for me since my family members are going to use broadband for gaming, so it is not wise to drop streamyx for wireless BB...

I saw in prasys blog that streamyx 4GB has very good speed but the rest are snail-like. maybe i will try that out if it is available.
*
false info. it might be true few months ago, but if you call them now, they will consistently throw the 3Gb FUP to you to justify their speed cap. nothing you say will change that, for now. and see that someone's post date, it was so long ago.

same thing, nothing about maxis bb that can be justified for gaming. i just missed playing my cs:source on steam, sigh.

obviously i have reached data usage, and it is on fifth day of my trial period, but my speed is not capped yet... maybe they will cap after i reched maximum trial period...

Any suggestion?
*
i think it has been said many times b4 by other forumers. nothing bad will happen within trial period. and the same for every isp. during trial period, u r like their 1st gf. after that, u'll be their mistress. when they like u they let u have fun. when they dont, they let u eat bun.

one of Digi broadband happy user here... consistent, reliable and most importantly stable connection... but, it might not suitable for those online gamers due to higher latency than wired broadband....
*
tats very good to hear. and the speedtest looks just right. high latency is expected, heh. Wimax technology suppose to be able to offer adsl-like latency, unfortunately at this moment our wimax provider are still struggling to meet coverage expectation. hope that once they have sufficient coverage, they will continue to improve their connection quality.

Already subscribed to DIGI, better latency, better speed and better service and more importantly, higher bandwidth!! 10GB with RM 10 extra charge, lol... Also , the usb modem is free of charge and it is unlocked, unlike that of maxis!

sounds like a great deal.

indeed there is some confusion in Maxis's ads. It states RMxx per month for XX speed. But the actual (and hidden) practice is, the RM XX you pay is for speed guaranted for the amount of quota given, which is XX GB.

from my experiance, they wont cap u straight after exceeding, but once u have, u can expect it any time.

so when u want to do comparison between maxis plan wif other provider, be reminded that u cannot compare RM XX to RM YY for 1 month, because Maxis simply dont base it that way. U might think its unfair but that is exactly how they are doing it. the only company as tricky as dis might only be celcom. digi at least they charge u extra when u exceed the quota, and thats still ok coz u pay for the extra usage and u still get the speed to use it. but with maxis, u pay for a speed u almost cant use...unless u are happy wif 56k.

I just register on Maxis BB a week ago on RM78.00 3GB download limit. And now after downloading several movies, this package just not enticing anymore. Even the lowest Streamyx pacakege, can downlad everything without any downthrottle. But with Maxis, it just need a week for 3gb limit. So next 3 weeks cannot download anthing because it had been downthrottle to around 5-6 kbps..just like dial-up phone. Now, don't know is it wise to retain Maxis 3G or give back to dealer...Any advise guys..
*
advise? lol. do you love your money or not? can you "take" paying RM78 for "TMnet Dial-up" speed or not?

this question is quite straightforward. you dont need our advise, smile.gif

Amazing, today a technical level 2 support personnel (So called supervisor) finally replied my queries on why I'm getting 12kbits/sec speed, he told me that according to his knowledge, they implemented a new cap to 16kbps after 5gb of traffic in this month. Is this bullshit or is he actually telling the truth? Either way, 12kbps is not enough speed to let me even load google search pages, much less anything else. Can I complain to any consumer helplines about this? I want to disconnect this shit if they can't even give me the capped speed of 64kbps. And for sure as heck I don't want to pay the RM200 handling fees for the fact that it's them throttling my line to 12kbps int he first place.
*
are you sure you are getting 12kbps? (as in kilobits). assuming what you say is correct, your dl speed when shown in the Windows download would be 1.5kB/s (kiloByte), which, is insanely slow. I've been shitted by Maxis b4 (and still is) with their ridiculous speedcaps, but as far as I know the cap is still 64kbps, which equals 8kB/s averagely. (just to confirm, speedtest.net will show a result of 0.06mbps for dl/up)

i totally support you if you want to file a complain, but do make sure you have the right facts and solid numbers to back yr claims. otherwise it'd be rather embarassing. just a concern since alot of forumers are not aware of the small b and big B.

and as much as i hate maxis for their lousy T&C, i doubt they will dare to screw with the consumers as to speed cap down to an insane 12kbps. thats not even narrowband. rmb 56k modem? thats 56kbps.

adoi, they told me that the cap thing will be hapuskan on 1st day of the month.
want to compare for this time, never compare the speed before...
*
thats the normal/expected speed when u have been capped. read my earlier post for the speedtest dl/ul. nothing wrong with it.

yes, the speedcap is reset at the beginning of every month.

their speedcap is not consistent. their system will put your connection more often into the capped speed (0.06 dl/ul) once you have reached the 3GB quota, but if you are lucky, after a few tries of on/off/reset modem, u might get a connection of an uncapped speed. think of it as connecting via diffrerent ip address, altho how their speedcap mechanism works exactly, i have no idea. from my experiance, some months are easier to repeat this method, while others it is harder.

i use to be able to do this after a few tries, and eventually reached 10GB of usage while doing it. but the next month after that, its hard to repeat the method even when my usage is only 5GB.

btw, im using the huawei black modem, not the USB ones. so those using USB modem might have better and reliable ways to always get uncapped speed more consistently.
