International Day The Earth Stood Still Trailer

There’s a new international trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still. I’m still not a fan of the generic death smoke which seems to be everywhere in all of the ads, and Gort continues to look like cheap CGI, but this one contains some other pretty cool new footage in addition to the fog of doom and badly rendered Gort. Best new moment in this trailer has Keanu Reeves being asked “Why have you come to our planet?” to which he ominously responds, “Your planet?” Must see.

'Earth's Vital List' Asks, What Would You Save?

A love a good interactive marketing campaign, which is why I'm telling you about 20th Century Fox's "What Will You Save?" a cool viral program dedicated to The Day the Earth Stood Still, which arrives in theaters December 12th from director Scott Derrickson (Exorcism of Emily Rose). The program is called Earth's Vital List and it is a fun social networking exercise where you choose what you would hypothetically save if the earth was being demolished.... (iPhone? Girlfriend? Pet? What Will You Save When The Earth Stands Still?



I took a philosophy course once where we discussed the impact of death. In an attempt to simulate dealing with that impact, the teacher led us through an exercise where we mentally had to face losing everything that was important to us. It was a grueling exercise that left me feeling emotionally drained.

Thankfully, 20th Century Fox isn’t going quite the same route with their online ad campaign for The Day the Earth Stood Still, although they are asking you something similar. The trailers alone make it look like mankind is facing the end of the Earth in the remake of the classic movie, so Fox wants to know what you think is vital enough to save. You have until 12/12/08 to list your vital items and get enough people to vote for them that they will be saved when the Earth stands still.

Make your vital list over at The Earth’s Vital List and then get your friends to vote for your items through social networks like facebook and MySpace.

I will say, I think this is a cool little social networking game, but beyond that it’s not much use. Trying to find my vital item (take a guess at what you think it is) yielded no results when I used the site’s “explore” feature. Oh well, hopefully I have enough friends through the social networks to save my little show.

12/12/08 is The Day the Earth Stood Still… or at least the day the remake comes to theaters.

Just came back from the premiere.

As expected, aint my type of movie and the story-line is kinda dull.

lots of action or izit full of crappy lengthy dialog expaining shits through out the whole movie???

What's your take on the movie? From the scale of 1 - 10, with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best. Also, how many hours was the movie?

1 point for insane modern CGI
1 point for plausible acting from Jennifer Connelly
1 point for showing the demise of pathetic characters

final score is 3/10. and im being incredibly lenient this time around.

bring your PSP, Nintendo DS, or any entertaining built-in mobile phone games to the theater if u insist on watching this crap. you're gonna need it half way through the show, believe me.

okie guys..jst wanna know if actions are alot in this movie or more talking.

jst take these 2 movies for comparison... Armageddon (lotsa action) or similar to Deep Impact (more on talking drama)...

which one it's similar? my bet would be on deep impact?

probarly that's not what the director was trying to focus on,...simple scenes explain lots when Keanu says that he isnt here to save the human race, but earth itself.

I say This movie is much much better then Armageddons and Deep Impact in terms of delivering the message of the movie.

Armageddon show off a bit of Nasa/America saving the world bla bla bla with thier technology, while this movie shows u no matter how powerfull u are u wont save anything by ego alone.

Exaggerating as usual  Connelly's acting, i'd give a thumb down.

If you are expecting epic, no this is not THE movie. Watch it with an open mind; it's mildly entertaining. I loved the robot whatever-you-call-it.
