Just wanted to know the censorhip level in original DVDs that can be purchased in Malaysia. For example, for the movie "300", are those scenes cut from the movie still intact? How about other movies?

Haven't bought much original DVDs in Malaysia to know the extent of censorship, although I do believe that they are not as strict as compared to screening in cinemas (am I right?)

Good to know some replies. biggrin.gif

I don't think DVDs are censored. If it really has very explicit scenes, it might not be allowed to be imported at all.

don't bother buying those so called Local Original DVDs from any local video stores. Almost all are chopped version.
For example, at Speedy now you can see Lust Caution on sale, but you think you'll get the original version where you can see Tony Leung's balls?

Better get those imported version from online stores like Amazon or Playasia

Any issues with like importing a version of Lust Caution from Amazon? I dun think those idiots at Customs would be happy to let it pass without any incident.

buying one or two disc usually can pass through the radar undetected.

I ordered a few movies from Amazon before also never got inspected/hold by custom.

As long as its not porn then you should be fine. Lust Caution not considered as porn what wink.gif

obefiend, those you bought locally issit also printed locally?

FYI, most of those cheaper local printed version (eg: speedy version) did went through the chopping process.

Some selling in the video stores are overseas R3 version, last time they used to have a section just for R1 version. Those I can confirm are uncut version.

I did bought a few movie from speedy before since it's cheap, but I can't remember which movies I bought... since I either gave them away or end up in the rubbish bin after I found out they were chop chop version and the picture and audio quality sucks anyway.

those RM9.90 version you mean?

i never buy them because the jewel case is atrocious lah.The cover art looked like it was printed on cheapo home printer. plus all of them do away with the extra features. why buy a dvd with no features?. i guess the DVDs i bought are imported in R3 version from Korea/Japan ( even the warning at the beginning are in jap+korea ).yeah confirm. just checked all of them are R3 with exception of HEAT and GOODFELLAS which are R1 imports ( i bought them for RM39.90.. still cheap man for imports!)

i think you should just by the ones they are selling for 20 ringit and up. i bought my double disc set of Forrest Gump for 29.90!! so cheap. and everything is intact. same goes to my sepcial edition Full Metal Jacket. hahaha! i'm thinking of buying Saving Private Ryan next. my R2 dvd lacked some extra features that the 60th DDAY anniversary has.

oh ya. thanks for the info. now i have more reason to not buy the slim cased 9.90 speedy DVD! much appreciated sir!

thanks for the update guys. I guess you get what you pay for! tongue.gif

How about newer movies? Any ones has experiences? Like movies in the past 2 years? Has the LFP changed their policy in censoring DVDs recently? Because technically, the law states that only films that are to be screened in public go through the chop, so I guess DVDs are for personal use and should not go through the chop.

BR is not cheap indeed, but would love to get my hands on those. Don't think our LFP would go chopping up BR movies gua. They are so expensive anyways, and based on their "skills", I doubt they would wanna go fiddle around.

well... those buggers in LFP will only be able to get their scissors on the locally pressed DVDs, they don't care if its for public or private viewing. As long as it got any content they don't agree with... chop chop!!

So if you want untouched DVDs, get those imported one. Just check the back of the DVD cover, if you see it's produced locally by some local production company, very high chance are they are the inferior version.

For censoring BR content, unless we are pressing the BR locally, there's no way those bugger can chop chop the BR content, which means right now all BR movies in the market are all uncensored one  since as far as I know, M'sia don't have the equipments to produce BR yet.

those LFP buggers are just ruining the entire movie experience in Malaysia, from films in cinema to locally made DVDs of even foreign movies. Heck, even music CDs are not spared. Such ancient thinking.

As far as I know, my 300 two disc set is uncut and intact, everything is definitely in there, but it's probably because it's a direct copy of the oversea's R3 (probably taiwan or hk).

I brought alot of the local dvds as well even those repackaged by Speedy (with the speedy logo on the box), some releases by berjaya HVN(most expensive one - Transformers Limited Transforming keep case 2 disc Edition and yeah, the Indiana Jones collection), a few from Movie Magic and a few HK movies by PMP and yeah, Multimedia Ent- I didn't notice any cuts though, and the approximate time for the movies were no different from what I read (comparison with oversea versions - R1&R3s) from the internet.

So, all the chops and slashes seemed to be urban legend to me but maybe I am just lucky.

But, I have started to get stuff from amazon@us, amazon@ca, amazon@uk and yesasia lately, that is just for the sake of - they are much cheaper, better in packaging (especially all those whatever edition) and yeah, ya won't find some of them here locally. And yeah, four orders in a row without any trouble with custom makes me a happy man... laugh.gif

if the movie doesn't have any extreme violent scenes or nudity, they usually will leave it as it lor... nothing to chop chop mar...

try to buy local version of Troy, you won't see the scene of Brad Pitt sleeping with a few nude girls at the beginning.
Try also local pressed version of Naked Killer, all of the nude scenes are taken out, especially the maggie Q's love scenes

The LFP should follow that of Singapore and be more liberal. All this chopping just makes people turn towards piracy. And not everyone can afford those imported DVDs.

Well, I guess I was lucky then.

Naked Killer... Hmm, not my cup of tea... Troy... Well, this one deserved an R1 buy.

Actually, I find that some imported dvds are sometimes much more cheaper than the local stuff especially with discount and all, but if ya pointing at pirates stuff, well, that's another issue... sweat.gif

I had a problem once with customs... Ordered a few Blu-Ray Discs and 3 DVD's... They total price of products was RM350+... and customs tax was also RM350+... They expected me to pay x2 of wat I am already paying... I said forget it, send it back... Amazon was kind enough to pay for the shipping back to them... Stupid Malaysian system... They dont offer the DVD's to us, yet when we order overseas, they still want to make profit... Is this how they want to stop piracy? Dont offer the dvd, and on top of that, tax us for it? Bunch of f***ing ass holes...
