CS is getting old. They should replace it with Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare.

Added on March 16, 2008, 8:35 amI'm not saying it is a must but its just an opinion based on the response of the cafe players.

After seeing 1.6 being chosen again, it reminds me of the old days, where dota v6 been released and the v5 players dun dare to step forward.

official rules will be out in april
in the meantime u can check out the proto-game rules at WCG website and make comments on it, though some of the proto-game rules are missing in this time
another thing is that u need to have an account with WCG to see the rules

CS 1.6 is because those people get used to the minor settings and recoil... Even because there is only minor change in CS:CZ, they still can play well, but for sure not 100% when to their everyday hard trained skills... That's why also starcraft 2 isn't going real 3d game play, because for sure many players will boycott and wasted their time training for years in the old 1...

This is World Cyber Games. Not your Malaysian Cyber Games. Not your Kampung Cyber Games. Not even your Local Area Network Cyber Games.

If you cant figure out what I just meant, maybe you should just stop using the internet on the whole for GREAT JUSTICE !

Malaysia is able to organize anything the world will give.

Prove: F1 and Commonwealth.

Compare to this 2, WCG Asian is in smaller scale ^^

Good Bolehland Spirit.
In theory, everything is possible.

In relation to the local cybergames scenario, however, this would also depend on the particular organizer.

Just compare last year's WCG:Msia and WCG:SG which is organized by In2 and RaptureGaming. We can see how come after so many years ICM still give SG to be the organizer for WCG:Asian.

Hmm...while WCG.my is more traditional compared to the grand looking WCG.sg, it's all come down to this lah - do you prefer all winners get to go to World Final or only selected winners? brows.gif

Personally, I don't see the meaning of our WCG if got all official games but not even half of the winner get the free trip to Cologne because you blew it all on the event grandness. Also, WCG.sg was held together with Asian WCG and GXL. That's like three tournament in one single weekend. If WCG.sg stand on its own, I personally don't think it would be that grand. Also, try to take out DoTA from their event. I believe that could spell a backlash, w00t. laugh.gif

Compare to last year's WCG.my, there's still significant number of participants even without DoTA around. That basically showed that WCG.my can stand on its own and plus, all winners get to go for free (IF there was no visa problem). I guess it's just our gaming culture is still different from SG.

Truth to be told, Malaysia supposed to host this year's WCG Asian. Don't know what happen, but ICM passed it back to SG. Having an international gaming event ain't easy and cheap...might as well get the resources first and make it great rather than cut corner here and there, then the event suck. Maybe next year, who knows? laugh.gif

yup plus the way we organize the tourney is better than them. we are more up to date with the rules and never only focus on 1 genre of games.

Agree with u that our community is good.
But really, u must educate me on this.
I was informed that WCG:SG 2007 offered a wide variety of both PC and consoles games option,
compared to WCG:MY 2007 which offered 6 PC games.

Grandness of an event is inseparable. Visitors or viewers would take them as one.
Whether WCG and GXL, people would receive it coming from organizer from SG.
Thinking out of the box or combining 2 similar events might be an good idea after all.

I think WCG:MY can benefit or improve from the following perspective:-

Website design and TIMELY update
In this aspect multiplay.lowyat.net gave a more timely update than my.worldcybergames.com

Commentator or shout caster for the gaming onstage
It is a little awkard that 2 players playing onstage without a commentator.
Just imagine u watch F1, and just see the cars roam for 51 laps without any commentator.

Console gaming

Apparel
Let the public, visitors or gamers have the opportunities to own a WCG related T-shirt or jacket (not via high price biding)
Turning a WCG apparel into exclusive item is not a good marketing. The sponsors of WCG eg Samsung should also be notified of this.

MC with a some reasonable knowledge of computer games that is being played.
MC combining with expert gamers in doing emcee?? Might sparks few local talents in this aspect.

WCG Game Hobby club
Example
Perhaps, Si_Jali might run a one day or half day crash course in FIFA?
DOTA reunion day?
RTS Gamers club ??
Clan recruiting day for other games??

Good aspect or points that WCG:MY need to continue
Choosing Midlands as venue
Sponsor all winners to Grand finals

Seriously, I wish that the countless people who offer their insight and criticism, on how to run an E-Sports event, would actually KNOW what they're talking about before they open their mouths and run it off.

Well I cant fault you for pointing out some valid points, but seriously, this is Malaysia we're talking about. I might be very vague here, but if I have to explain myself further, that would only mean that you really dont know anything about the subject at hand then.

Once again, I'll stick by my statement that if you wanna talk the talk, walk the walk first.

for the last 10 years, I have went to watch F1 in sepang 5 times. No commentators, no infos. Just my eyes and if ur lucky the big screens. Don't compare them. Just being there is worth many commentaries alone.
Another thing is like Chapree pointed out, In2 SPONSORED the ticket to the grand finals, thus they have to limit what games that they can have. Believe me, I don't see much malaysian forking out their money to go to the grand final anytime soon.
And WCG apparel IMO deserves to be exclusive. Only the limited few have the right to wear it for free to show their status as an elite gamer. the "if you want it, buy it" is not wrong, as ppl either you earn your shirt, or fork out money. Either way it fuels motivation for ppl to get better.

Hmmm...this is quite a good discussion compared to the usual why there's no this game, that game in WCG and stuff.

Before you can include Xbox 360 games in WCG.my, the console must be launched officially here. If you jumped the gun without official support from Microsoft Malaysia, things could backfire. WCG.my couldn't risk that for sure.

One has to remember that Microsoft also sponsor Windows license inside tournament PCs. nod.gif

Hmmm...I don't really know how to explain this. Last year, GXL held it's event at WCG PC area and Microsoft Xbox 360 booth. Although there is Singtel GXL booth, but that booth focus more on mobile phones and Singtel services. So I guess, pple still thought everything was about WCG.sg/Asian WCG.

GXL does benefit from the venue such as good stream of visitors and equipments. But I don't think they get much as far as branding goes. Gamers might knew it but general public wouldn't see it much.

*
Hehehe, Multiplay is a gaming site, that's why it has updates all year round. WCG.my site is an event site, so if there's no update from the event, no reason for them to update. Same goes to all WCG site around the world.

I share your view about shoutcasters. It definitely give some spectator value there. Same goes to MC. We need somebody like GGL's Djwheat which is to me, a superb shoutcaster at WCG.usa.

In terms of apparel, in 2005 (or is it 2004) WCG.my did sell some t-shirt. These t-shirt is different from the one that the finalist received. I don't know why they stop selling them. Lack of response maybe? They should start selling them again. thumbup.gif

*
Ur feed back is much appreciated.

However, I noticed from ur previous post, u might seem quite "defensive" particularly when certain issues of local E-Sports event is being raised.

Most gamers or ppl that would write a comment in this forum are fervent in seeing there is growth and improvement in the local E-Sport scene. While some may be a little blunt on their remark, however, majority did give a sincere constructive criticism.

I hope that those constructive criticism won't further elevate ur stress in coping for the future upcoming events.

Your effort and contribution in organizing the previous or coming E-sport events is also much appreaciated.

Just be cool as we r all part of BIG family in e-games.

organize a event not that easy though, you never look deep into it.
I briefly tell you some of it.

Wide Coverage obviously required Internet Connection
-This is where internet come in, required tmnet as sponsor, but on another side note, you need to pay rental fees also to management as using thier facilities, yea, ISP can give any free bandwidth boost just for few days event or even FOC for few days event, but who pay the facilities charges? (Sponsor Obviously)

Marshall
-where to choose a qualify marshall, who know the game well, and not prejudice yet fair, and dont forget, you need to pay marshall salary, if too low who wanna work? time management for marshall having shift for having breakfast, lunch and dinner?(obviously you all wanna having food with ur fren.) who would pay the salary which is rm100 to rm120 per day, where thier working hour might be 12 hours long?? and there is head marshall where higher pay. who gonna pay?( none, except they really generous since all organiser would like to save as much money as they could, they would more happy able to get volunteer, normally they would pay rm60-80 for marshall if they somehow agree with that salary.)

Sponsor all Grand final winners to Msia, dont think much, u just need to get samsung to pay for it, and organiser just need to get thier namelist, passport number, or even try spoke with embassy for country that required VISA to come here, and yet, booking for hotel room.
(in2 certainly cant make it, erm...manpower not enough probaly)

Commentator - sorry, there doesnt have good commentator with good english here, including me. best you able to get is (wah lau!fake)
Or get hit.fm crew which i sometimes feel like they disgrace our knowledge.

Goverment - might be morale support but not financial, what for i support your event when none of the msian able to get any champion or title at all, face the fact, goverment always like to see result in short time which same as us seeing goverment done all thing in efficient way.

Console gaming - you can find m$ to done thier xbox360 launching during opening or watever...big big prize...hot chiqs...great cash...and all won by foreigners...i meant for international events.

Banners and advertisment - you need to becareful on this part though, some sponsor, if they doesnt see thier banner clear enough, not at the good position...they would scream!!! at u! advertisment doesnt have thier company logo/name...they would complain u!! this will make you depress as they might threaten, we will not sponsor anymore..or maybe next year...hahaha..obviously all sponsor want to expose thier company logo/name as smart or most attractive as thier could, if not what for they sponsor the event. this leave to organiser to decide.

Equiment rental - do you think renting the hall is cheap? mostly cost rm20k per day, LCD TV rental, cordless microphone rental (RM150/unit per day)
oh yea, time management too, you need to rush the time, which sometimes authority would charge rm1k-3k per hour, if u doesnt clear the event hall fast enough.

and yea..this just briefly...most important part is, organiser only receive thier money after 2 month - 1 year..the rest is they fork out thier own money except deposit which taken of course.

shit, i must be too crazy woke up 5am..

but telling you all, doing event is not easy, what i saying is just briefly, there is so many problem/troubles occur b4/during/after event.

Yeap, msia event organiser certainly better than singapore, but why AWCG doesnt host here?? i dunno..

obviously organising a small tiny event is easy, time wise doesnt need to bother much, a Grand event would make ur hair totally turn white though.

Halo,.....u got alot point,...but at the end is all abt 'sponsorship'!!
it had no related to goverment, if the sponsor can effort the event require o more, then there b no any question to organize this grand event here in malaysia. for example concert, if sponsorship can meet the require we can even see any star from all around the world come over. all ur point abt pubilcity n promotion all will b consider together no point u list out. while 'x-game' is the best example, n oso 8tv grand concert every year invited HK stars. so perhape any 'big sponsor' in malaysia willing to sponsor this event, n wat we need to do is jus pray n hope biggrin.gif

Added on March 26, 2008, 11:13 amanyway, im talking about making a event successful, not about gaming first, before u talk into gaming, try to prepare all sort of stuff to make the event successful.

The ultimate success of an event will need a solid financial support apart from coordination of well-proven
effective management team. "Money" is always view as a fluidic drive for such success.

In an organization of a non-governmental events, the sponsor/s are usually the sole financial source.
The question is how many sponsor/s is/are needed and how much they would sponsor is a key question.

Obviously, every event have its own VALUE which the sponsor would pay for.
Factors to enhance the VALUE :-

Amount of visitors that the event will attract (thinking of thousand as a unit per day)
The spectators and game-enthusiasts rather than the gamers are pertinent in the success in an gaming events.
The event hence is for :-
1. "An event of competition for few hundreds Gamers" ??
OR
2. "An event of viewing pleasure for few thousand and thousands Spectators" ??

Selection of question 1 or 2 as Primary PRIORITY will steer how grand the event would be held.
Just ask a sponsor what unit interest them most ? Hundreds or Thousand or more?

Suggestions:-
1. Although it's difficult to have a live telecast at this moment, a VOD is much efficient than a replay.
2. The LCD TV displayed during the preliminary at previous WCG were placed too low.
Increasing the number of LCD TV at strategic place with "slightly higher" position might be benefit more spectators
rather than few viewers that stand directly in front of the TV screen.

"THEME" & "NATURE"
eg. What's being offered INSIDE in the event
eg. The event is also AN OPPORTUNITY for extension the spirit of "BEYOND the GAMES" theme.

Questions :-
1. Is the "GAME" theme per-se being delivered ?
2. Is the "BEYOND the GAME" theme being achieved ?

It is the AFTER EFFECT of the VISITORS (whether spectators or gamers)
before they step-in and after the they step-out from the event venue.

What are their response/reaction in relation to :-
1. The game event
2. The support of the event being offered?
3. The influence of them to other visitors (would they encourage their friends/ family/ relative to visit or
would they allow their children to attend in future)
4. Have the commercial message of the sponsors being delivered?

Sorry to be blunt, however, I personally find that there is lack of Synergistic Effect among the flow
of game and the theme event. It feels more like a IT product exhibition centre.
At times, the master of ceremony gave the public that the MC also might not be so familiar with the
game being played.
In this aspect, the opportunity to introduce/dissiminate the "gist of the event" eg. the game being
displayed to the public/ spectators is impaired.

"BRANDing" and "ACCEPTANCE"of the event
What are impression/ opinion of the viewers or society as the whole, think of the event.
As example, what our society think of WCG if compared to other events such as Piala Perdana, F1 or de Tour etc)

"Stage" of the event (Local, state, regional, national or international)
Higher stage --> Higher VALUE --> More Money

Publicities (Internet, Main stream media or Local)
Events being reported in local or national newspaper or national TV? Gaming magazine? Gaming website? Blog?
Although the target audience will be the gamers however,
publicities at the main stream media would create further "buzz" in our society, thus "stimulate" more game-enthusiasts

Reputation of a organizer
Just like a good reputable housing developer would always deliver. (This is what a sponsors want!)
The sponsors would also want their money(investment) to be well-spend in achieving their business commitment.

In short,
Increase the VALUE of the event,
Don't deviade from the theme too far away,
Think OUT-OF-the BOX when difficulities arised.
Everything would come nicely ....... eventually

Hmm.. maybe if certain console gamers can stop supporting Sungei Wang/LYP console games, we'd have a chance to have XBOX 360 in WCG.my.

The "machine" like many ppl said were not even officially launched though widely available.

Perhaps with the official launch of XBox 360 the situation would change?

Why is it that Age of Empires 3 (A Game for windows, Microsoft) was not included in the previous competition in WCG.MY

By the way, this year final official games is out,
Although for Age of Empires 3 the expansion used is Asian dysnasty,
the logo in the website http://www.worldcybergames.com/6th/fun/new...no=C08031710001
still use the Warchief logo.

its not launched here because of the piracy level. thats what angelstarz was implying.

well about the organizing part, as long as theres not speakers playing loud music near the gaming area, i'll be happy. also, dont leave the spectators out of the action, they wanna watch their friends or favourite team/player competing.
