i done the 8tv event b4 though, they invited HK stars bcoz they got name, hotlink and others sponsor willing f.o.c for the food and accomodation.
it does related to goverment too, dont tell me u doesnt need any permit for a big event.
Added on March 26, 2008, 11:13 amanyway, im talking about making a event successful, not about gaming first, before u talk into gaming, try to prepare all sort of stuff to make the event successful.
And futhermore, sound and lighting, got one year 8tv done a event..hmm..maybe i wrong..i forgot which year..at jln bukit bintang, do u really think road closure doesnt need any permit?
and sorry, i dont talk about sponsorship only, i talk overall, u wanna get a good gaming event with accomodate so many game, dun tell me u doesnt need sponsor, i would rather say, if the competition doesnt have good prizes, dun tell u would join..ya right..u may join... but not for long...
Added on March 26, 2008, 11:18 amyeap, since u say so many thing, its all about sponsor, which sponsor willing to sponsor if their brand didnt advertise nicely, take example as X-Games, why isnt 2nd year, or even 2nd time??
and 8tv grand concert, ya right, hk star get thier money if they come, obviously they come, and 8tv able to collect money from concert ticket, with cover part of thier sponsor, they also advertise thier brand, and futhurmore maxis/digi is so generous due to high publicity of HK/Taiwan Stars, so...where is the Gaming Publicity... HWZ magazine??the star????tats all???
The ultimate success of an event will need a solid financial support apart from coordination of well-proven
effective management team. "Money" is always view as a fluidic drive for such success.
In an organization of a non-governmental events, the sponsor/s are usually the sole financial source.
The question is how many sponsor/s is/are needed and how much they would sponsor is a key question.
Obviously,
every event have its own VALUE which the sponsor would pay for.
Factors to enhance the VALUE :- Amount of visitors that the event will attract (thinking of thousand as a unit per day)
The spectators and game-enthusiasts rather than the gamers are pertinent in the success in an gaming events.
The event hence is for :-
1. "An event of competition for few hundreds Gamers" ??
OR
2. "An event of viewing pleasure for few thousand and thousands Spectators" ??
Selection of question 1 or 2 as Primary PRIORITY will steer how grand the event would be held.
Just ask a sponsor what unit interest them most ? Hundreds or Thousand or more?
Suggestions:- 1. Although it's difficult to have a live telecast at this moment, a VOD is much efficient than a replay.
2. The LCD TV displayed during the preliminary at previous WCG were placed too low.
Increasing the number of LCD TV at strategic place with "slightly higher" position might be benefit more spectators
rather than few viewers that stand directly in front of the TV screen.
"THEME" & "NATURE" eg. What's being offered INSIDE in the event
eg. The event is also AN OPPORTUNITY for extension the spirit of "BEYOND the GAMES" theme.
Questions :- 1. Is the "GAME" theme per-se being delivered ?
2. Is the "BEYOND the GAME" theme being achieved ?
It is the
AFTER EFFECT of the VISITORS (whether spectators or gamers)
before they step-in and after the they step-out from the event venue.
What are their response/reaction in relation to :- 1. The game event
2. The support of the event being offered?
3. The influence of them to other visitors (would they encourage their friends/ family/ relative to visit or
would they allow their children to attend in future)
4. Have the commercial message of the sponsors being delivered?
Sorry to be blunt, however, I personally find that there is lack of Synergistic Effect among the flow
of game and the theme event. It feels more like a IT product exhibition centre.
At times, the master of ceremony gave the public that the MC also might not be so familiar with the
game being played.
In this aspect, the opportunity to introduce/dissiminate the "gist of the event" eg. the game being
displayed to the public/ spectators is impaired.
"BRANDing" and "ACCEPTANCE"of the event
What are impression/ opinion of the viewers or society as the whole, think of the event.
As example, what our society think of WCG if compared to other events such as Piala Perdana, F1 or de Tour etc)
"Stage" of the event (Local, state, regional, national or international)
Higher stage --> Higher VALUE --> More Money
Publicities (Internet, Main stream media or Local)
Events being reported in local or national newspaper or national TV? Gaming magazine? Gaming website? Blog?
Although the target audience will be the gamers however,
publicities at the main stream media would create further "buzz" in our society, thus "stimulate" more game-enthusiasts
Reputation of a organizer Just like a good reputable housing developer would always deliver. (This is what a sponsors want!)
The sponsors would also want their money(investment) to be well-spend in achieving their business commitment.
In short,
Increase the VALUE of the event,
Don't deviade from the theme too far away,
Think OUT-OF-the BOX when difficulities arised.
Everything would come nicely ....... eventually
