I am soooooo jealous for the speed you're getting bro. Can you use torrent and online gaming with such speed ?
*
torrent is definitely a no
no matter how u configure it, it's still slow like getting below 10kb/s 99% of the time
for online games it's not suitable too cuz of the latency...

and i think U Mobile is throttling my FTP downloads......

care to share the ftp link? maybe i can try if it's affecting me too ... or only temporary.
*
1) i only have limited active ftp connections which i'm utilising all of it
2) it requires a username and password....

but i think it's definitely throttled since when i start the download this morning it's flying at 300+kb/s
then suddenly in less than a minute it dropped to below 50kb/s and fluctuating at 30-50kb/s.....
damn U Mobile

i have figured out the problem to be U Mobile's throttling
after using a vpn i'm getting 100-150kb/s consistent download from ftp
test download from other webui provider ftp - getting max speed

conclusion - U Mobile throttle ftp download except for rapidshare or those equivalent vmad.gif

LOL i guess U Mobile doesn't allow u to VPN smile.gif

have u tried direct FTP?
*
yes when using a vpn the speed is crap.....
so far i've tested usa, germany, france & uk server
but still all of them are giving crappy speeds doh.gif

bro, pls give more info on direct ftp...
is it a software? http://directftp.directget.com/home.htm
or is it something else u referring to?

QUOTE(cybpsych @ Sep 16 2009, 07:57 AM)
means u connect directly to a FTP server without using VPN?
*
frankly speaking i've tried both connecting to ftp with and without vpn
in terms of downloading when u're throttled the speed will be fast at first then within 2 minutes or so it will be hovering at 20-70kb/s
and using a vpn will not help much either so far the best speed i've got with the best vpn routing is max at 160kb/s... far from the consistently 200-250kb/s speed i got when downloading directly using U Mobile before throttled
and the throttle is very obvious cuz when using my office 2mb streamyx i'm getting the full speed at 180-210kb/s consistently
so conclusion is U Mobile throttle ftp downloads sad.gif

and when u said connect directly to an ftp server i don't quite understand that
is downloading via flashget considered connecting directly?
i also use filezilla to connect to ftp server but the download speed is slower...

pls elaborate more on connecting directly
thanks

Added on September 16, 2009, 1:30 pmand also, fyi U Mobile DON'T release the throttle in the beginning of the month...
the ftp i'm downloading from is still throttled eventhough 1 month has passed....

and, torrenting via vpn is also not a good solution
fyi ubuntu 9.0.4 torrent is only running at 110kb/s max.....
some of the private trackers only at 2kb/s but when i download via tflux it's really fast....

so conclusion is - U Mobile is NOT suitable for torrenting, and downloading via ftp sad.gif

direct ftp is like using filezille or flashfxp.

based on ur testings, i guess U Mobile starts to throttle FTP? it could be external factor outside of UM's network.

i dont know smile.gif just guessing.
*
ok so u're talking about the shareware by coffee cup??? Or the free ones???
i don't think it'll really make a difference...

And, i don't think it's external factors influencing the speed since at home/office i get 90-99% signal strength
well, even on 70% signal strength in my in-law's place the speed is the same....

So far i'm getting the news that not just U Mobile implements throttle streamyx is worst......

if no network detected meaning, there is no UM signal at all
tats why i am using UM and Maxis biggrin.gif
*
good luck if u can stick to the old really unlimited plan
heard lately maxis has changed their 'unlimited' plan to be sort of like maxis broadband lol
anyway maxis is worse sometimes rapidshare is throttled...

Hmm...kinda interested in U Mobile BB, but need some references b4 proceed.

1) Where do you guys bought the modem? Price?

2) How about the latest download speed?

3) Average downtime?

I heard that although the speed will be a capped after 5GB, but actually this is not implemented... hmm.gif
*
1) for modem look for user andrewdavid in garage sales

2) direct download is fast, max 300+kb/s, most of the time 200+kb/s

3) haven't encounter any downtime

HOWEVER:
if u download from tflux ftp u will get throttled very fast.... U Mobile don't implement fair usage policy but they will throttle your downloads....
if u vpn, the routing to europe and US is very very very bad
the max i got using a vpn is ubuntu torrent running at 110kb/s, most private trackers running at 40-50kb/s even if it's seeded by multiple 100mbit server.
i've queued the same torrent in tflux and the speed got up to 5MB!!!!!!

CONCLUSION:
NOT good for heavy downloader, but good to use as a backup mobile device for surfing

i guess the throttling is another way of "Fair Usage Policy" implementation.

Added on September 23, 2009, 9:25 pmnormal ftp? u mean downloading from webui ftp?
