Dual-booting the iPhone
>>Here<<
*
wow, this is so extreme. hehe...btw in meantime dualbooting is none of practical use. but maybe can be another solution of installing 1.2 beta (or public 2.0) firmware. still it is not one-click-away step, and it is kinda risky though.

he choose 1.1.1 and 1.1.3(above) due to file structure is different,
what for dual boot if both have the same file structure???
*
yup, but i can't see the practicality on dualbooting as for now. yeah can dualboot, then what?
btw i think that this trick maybe useful for future versions of firmwares and unlocks. maybe on that time we can't easily boot to the latest firmware, thus booting from an older firmware's partition and unlocking the firmware from it will prove it useful. but for now it's not much use.
or maybe it will be great if it can load another ARM-based OSes (although some needs a particular chipset like Android platform). or boot a diy OS. or a cracked iPhone firmware. this dualbooting technique has lots of potential, but has not much use for now.

Okay, i'm just gonna throw my question out there.

I'm heading to US end of this month....thinking of getting an iPhone from there since it's cheap....USD399 for the 8GB. bring it back here n unlock it.

Worth it or wait for the so called 3G model anytime in the near future.
*
yeah we dunno when will it arrive here. but maybe if it arrives here this june or september, it will be expensive.
btw i have a feeling that the 8GB will have price reduction (maybe) as it is nearly one year in the market already.
but u can always have an excuse of familiarising yourself with iPhone and all the apps u can install. and then u can sell it when the new version is here. or u can have two iPhones, one old and one new. hohoho...
3G on iPhone is still trivial. whether it will be here or not diz year.

How do you guys use the plug, or just charge with power supplied from PC/Mac to USB cable?
*
u can easily plug it to the adapter that can be found at supermarket and electrical stores.
or if u wanna buy the plug head, u can get the travel kit at Apple retail. if u notice, the adapter's head is removable and interchangeable.

so what's your choice now? hehehe...
if wanna use iPlus, heard that iPlus 2.1 is on its way. so for lowering risk of stability (maybe la, i dunno if it get prob) better wait for that version. if wanna use ZiPhone, use 2.6.
hehehe...btw most of people here will still use ZiPhone (and the iPhone sellers too) because it is a tried-and-tested method. but hey, iPlus comes with some bonuses. it also install BSD and the term fix. plus it activates AFC2.
mmm...remember though that more apps will be ported to 1.1.4 in no time. thus if u wanna use new apps u need to update your firmware. but u can still install the older application version manually. depends on your needs.
btw y so afraid to start now? maybe u afraid when u use ZiPhone, suddenly a software glitch makes it downgrade your bootloader. hohoho...
still thinking about all possible consequences? dude u r so paranoid!

izzit the Cydia or other package manager?

Added on March 15, 2008, 1:08 pmoww...got the answer already on your next post. btw i've informed that installing Cydia will also install the Fake-BSD thingy and it will rub the BSD Subsystem, so apps in Installer.app that requires BSD Subsystem will still works. mmm...maybe trying this on my next restore (wanna cleanup summore, hehehe...). Thanks for the updates!

if u have BSD in the first place, just install Cydia. It will handle everything to delete the old BSD. No need to install fake-BSD. U can't even find it anywhere.

The fake-BSD only appear in installer if u never install BSD before and install Cydia (telesphoreo). BSD fake is to fool apps that require the OLD BSD to function. Its just a symlink patch. I made it a habit to install any unix system file with Cydia rather than installer as Cydia provide a direct port from Debian (same as OS X) and with updated version.

Other apps, installer is still the best.
*
oww...like that eh? guess that i'll start experimenting on my next restore, next week when i got a lot of free time. like i've said before, wanna do some housekeeping on my iPhone biggrin.gif
thanks so much dude. i still dunno much bout Cydia. still on info gathering phase.

mmm...just read bout the payload at hackthatphone site. so these are the contents it stated:
Cydia and Telesphoreo (instead of BSD Subsystem), Installer, Community Sources, Fake BSD Subsystem (to allow Installer packages that require BSD to install), OpenSSH, SummerBoard themes directory fix, and Term-vt100

haha...

means it has already jailbreak'd. if u got Installer icon on your iPhone it signifies that it has undergone jailbreak before, and thus it is jailbroken.

if we buy the new iphone normaly is version?
*
depends on when the seller takes the stock. btw if buy it directly at the apple store, it should be 1.1.4.
btw, most of the sellers here already updates them to 1.1.4.
QUOTE(frozzbyte @ Mar 15 2008, 11:34 PM)
He says the SDK is just full of hype and now he's working on Customize 2.0 using the old toolchains.
*
haha...SDK is just a sandbox, doesn't much helping in accessing the internals of the iPhone software. but it is practical for apps that doesn't need that privilege (games, productivity apps).
oww...i want Customize on 1.1.4!

so.................i dunno how............
i wan buy the iphone now..............
but i afraid that i dunno how to upgrade....................
so........................
very vexed
dunno know how to do?
*
mmm...i meant that if u got someone to buy for u at the Apple Store, then it will be 1.1.4. btw most of the iPhones at the tradezone already upgraded to 1.1.4.
dunno to how upgrade? worry not, the steps are simple. in fact there are 2 steps only. Restore and Unlock.
btw, before u got iPhone in hand, better familiarise first with iTunes (in case u haven't use it before). u will depend on it a lot.

restore?
how to restore?
*
restore can be done on iTunes.
yes, using the iPhone, u'll depend a lot to iTunes.
btw do u have any experience with iPod? if yes then it is just the same.

ok back to the restore and unlock. if u got a locked iPhone in hand, u'll just need to perform unlock in ZiPhone/iPlus, no need to perform restore. but if u got an older version of iPhone firmware installed, and u want to install the latest, it is advisable to perform restore first in iTunes. it will rub all the iPhone contents.

mmm...try use iTunes. u will be ready when u get the iPhone.

1 question, my celcom 3g sim card doesn't work so I got to swap the AT&T 3G in, then later swap back Celcom 3G as workaround. Do you think we can register the AT&T 3G sim card with Celcom (so I can throw the Celcom 3G, I dont want to replace another Celcome sim card).
*
i believe it is a no. because it is not their simcard. not every sim is the same.
btw always heard bout the celcom 3G simcard prob. as for celcom, the simcard for 3G and 2G is different, while on Maxis u can use the same card. so i believe that it will be some prob there. u can change your simcard at Celcom centre.
btw as far i know, celcom doesn't have EDGE, and their GPRS speed is craptastic.
