and when it comes unlocked, it really does cost a fortune.
take example of Germany unlocked iPhone. it costs around RM4xxx. and for France it's around RM3xxx. but it is not really unlocked afterall (still country-locked) mmm...also the article that u read is concerning bout Apple US and AT&T decision to stay locking the iPhone to the network, while France's Orange and Germany's T-Mobile already opened up its offering (but with price of premium for the unlocked ones). mmm...iphone in malaysia? still a mystery. but hope it will arrive finally. but actually the steep price of unlocked iPhone still justifies the product, IMHO. some people like to use another telco, so basically they r paying more for their freedom. |

Until the actual Apple Store open-up in Malaysia, I think it won't happened (iPhone coming to M'sia Land).

QUOTE(cocklea @ Feb 28 2008, 08:56 AM) In the US maybe lah.But in Japan, I don't think so... at least not in the near future. Japanese handphones are 'very very heavily' subsidised by the respective telcos...Still have to pay a bit lah, but they are virtually free to the consumers. Japanese ppl are used to this concept already. I don't think the regular consumer in japan will accept the idea of forking lotsa money for an unlocked phone. |

QUOTE(futobuta @ Feb 28 2008, 09:08 AM) In the US maybe lah. yup, they implement the same marketing way of mobile phone as on US, or maybe further than that. but unlike US, cell networks in Japan is far more superior thus leaving very small portion of service dissatisfaction. thus they don't really have any issue on being tied to any network. what counts is network usability (and of course more value for money). so i also doubt that japanese will buy unlocked phone that costs lot more higher than the locked ones. But in Japan, I don't think so... at least not in the near future. Yeah lor.... and it seems iPhone doesn't support Docomo's highly successful iMode. So..... dunno how they are getting around that lah. |

Question is, if you want an Apple-unlocked iPhone with full warranty and aftersale support, are you willing to pay for it? The only reason i see why it sells like hot cakes here is because it is priced attractively at RM1400 after conversion. And it is priced that way because it is partly subsidized by AT&T and you're supposed to sign a cellphone plan with them.
Watch as those who wanted an iPhone officially here whine yet again, when Apple releases it here unlocked at RM4000-5000. There's never satisfying people nowadays. |

Ya, i agree with you..it will surely become expensive when they start to selling an officially unlocked version of Iphone, but i dun think it will up till 4000 to 5000, its price will be the same as laptop lol..
