Whedon can't risk to change the foundation too much. Only left with 4 months plus to complete the movie. Let alone completing vfx shots...reshoot,sound mixing, music scoring, lip synch dubbing and final color grading. All these takes considerable amount of time to do. They literally need to finish the film by October otherwise they will f-up the format conversion to imax and 3d or what not. On top of that some countries may even need language dubbing. They are already behind schedule as I can see.

Not really, you can have several different cuts of the same film like 2-3 months before release (*cough* Suicide Squad *cough*)

Anyways, for countries that required the film to have dubbing, ideally the release date will be later than the rest of the world

Zack's awesome in all stages - directing editing and storytelling in Watchmen and BvS UE. With Whedon, it might feel too pop-ish, kiddy and Disney, just like most Avengers films. Oh well, we can't win 'em all.

Isn't the whole point of editing is to have multiple version so the studio can pick one version to finish up to release theatrically. It's already been a standard practice started from the Godfather days. I'm saying fundamentally Whedon does not have a lot of room to make changes to the edit as release date is too close for effects heavy film like this one. Simply no knowing whether minor or extensive reshoot. Furthermore it's disrespectful to a degree for Joss Whedon to do a 180 on Zack Snyder's rough cut unless the state of it really bad which simply again no way of knowing it. In order for the studio to greenlight the reshoot, think they already decided which rough cut version to base on. Pretty sure Zack Snyder already shares more than one of his extended edits to gauge feedback.

Does it even need Whedon edit vs Snyder edit to begin with? If it's good,it's good...so if it's sucked then it's sucked and not a single thing you can do about it.

The edit structure of BvS extended cuts....are just missing scenes without touching the heavy effects shots too much. It's not like Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven which is night and day different.

So did Gareth Edwards cries when the last one third of Rogue One being reworked by Tony Gilroy. Neither did Gilroy came out dissing Edwards for not being credited for his contribution.

Unless you are living under a rock....blockbuster movies nowadays are being released simultaneously regionally mostly to call first dip on foreign ticket sales and to compete against streaming services.

Don't think so, most likely he'll just come back to being a producer
Zack snyder's weakness is storytelling and editing. Eventhough majority of the film has been shot already, depending on how you arrange the scenes, it can be a totally different film. Here's hoping whedon can perform a miracle here  laugh.gif

To be honest, I disagree. Zack is brilliant with visuals and a great action director. But he really isn't a good storyteller. He really needs either good source material (Watchmen) or a good screenwriter to help make his movies.

There are many parts about Man of Steel and BvS that really expose those weaknesses. The characters aren't really fleshed out and developed. Sometimes it feels like a collage of scenes. Not a movie.

Case in point Man of Steel. He chose to put so many Perry White scenes instead of taking more time to flesh out the two most critical parts of Man of Steel - the part where Superman chose to destroy the Genesis ship and the part where Zod confronted Superman for the final fight. Those two scenes are defining moments, same like the part where Superman spoke to the priest and decided to surrender. These were chances to show characters making tough choices and these choices have consequences. They are also chances to help us relate to the key characters and why they do what they do. Instead Zack glossed over those scenes and chose to focus on the pointless Perry White scenes. Superman should have started the movie filled with doubt about who he is and what he wanted to do with his life. When he finally makes his decision to side with humans, it is a decision he made with hope for humanity to better itself and in order to defend that decision he must stand up in the light and fight as Superman. Zod should have started the movie as a decorated general trying to save his people but becoming cynical and jaded and cruel in his hopelessness in the end. To me, that should have been the overarching theme. Instead, what we get is slam bang action juxtaposed against the desperation of Perry and gang in the final third of the movie to force some suspense.

It's the same for BvS. The way they set up the confrontation simply wasn't convincing. The movie doesn't feel natural because the movie relies heavily on plot devices rather than actually building relatable characters. Same problems as Man of Steel.

Don't get me wrong. It's not that those movies sucked. There are many parts of both movies that I really loved. It's just that they could have been so much better than the average summer blockbuster.

That's later, in JL2. Also captain marvel. I think 6 characters is quite a lot to juggle in one film hmm.gif

GL Corps has huge potential, just need to find the right story to put on screen. And GL Corps has a lot of epic stories, some of the best comic book stories ever written
