We’ve seen Batman battle Superman. We watched Deadshot form an unlikely alliance with Harley Quinn. But the team-up DC Comics’ fans are really waiting for is when the entire Justice League comes together to save the world.

“I’m super happy with the chemistry of my league of justice doers,” says director Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), who’s in the middle of editing the November release.

Justice League will delve into the details of how these individual heroes readjust their egos to fight as a collective. Turns out, aligning these disparate — and outsized — personalities can be as difficult as fighting bad guys.

Take Ezra Miller’s version of the Flash, the league’s overly excitable kid brother who uses humor to mask his pain. “Flash is Ringo Starr,” says Miller, pictured here alongside allies the Dark Knight (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). “He annoys everybody, but he doesn’t have any specific beef with anyone.”

Miller also offers up Flash’s blunt assessment of his fellow leaguers. “Uncle Fish Curry [Aquaman] is very grumpy. Dad [Batman] gets grumpy too. (He’s had a long life of fighting crime.) ­Wonder Woman is very considerate, so even though she’s annoyed with the Flash, she’s still very compassionate.” Yeesh. Don’t get him started on Superman.

With Superman (Henry Cavill) having laid down his life for Earth, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) recruit a superteam to take on a new threat to civilization in Justice League. “It was all about the filling-out of this massive comic-book pantheon with the biggest and coolest heroes we could,” director Zack Snyder says of his group, which includes seafaring warrior Aquaman (Jason Momoa), speedy Flash (Ezra Miller) and high-tech Cyborg (Ray Fisher). Fans are getting a big character arc for Wonder Woman in 2017, beginning with her solo movie set during World War I. In it, she finds “humanity isn’t always the most kind and awesome thing,” says Snyder, also a producer on Wonder Woman. “It has its moments, but it can be brutal, and her coming to terms with that dichotomy is what we come to learn about her. And in Justice League, she’s fully evolved into someone who’s embraced mankind, partly through Superman’s sacrifice. She’s like, ‘All right, I’ve got to pick it up.’ ”

Beall also wrote the initial script for Warner Bros.’ highly anticipated Justice League movie, though the story has certainly evolved since then. Keeping in line with the description for Aquaman, he teased more of the same for the DC Comics team-up movie and a tonal shift in that direction for the rest of the DCEU:

“I think Justice League again is, what you’re going to see — I hope I’m not going to get in trouble for saying this — but it’s much more fun, much poppier, than … I haven’t seen Wonder Woman yet, but Batman vs Superman was a little more somber. But Justice League is a lot more fun. And I think that feels to me like the direction those movies are heading now.”

Affleck says his next DC film, which he executive produced, is designed to be more popular.

“Justice League, you probably saw the teaser that came out of Comic-Con; I thought it is nicely emblematic of the kind of minor tone shift and segue in storytelling,” he says, comparing the November 2017 film to the dark and brooding Batman v Superman. “It’s a little bit lighter, the characters are a little bit more comfortable in themselves, so they can express a wider array of emotions. And there are just more people in it, so it’s more fun. It’s all of these different characters bumping up against each other and the team dynamic offers a lot of dramatic possibility.”

As for the Bat-script he’s currently writing, “We’re still working on it, taking a little extra time and a little extra care to really get it right on paper first. But it’s looking very good and I’m excited about it.”

Affleck’s take on the Dark Knight not only differs from previous screen incarnations by Michael Keaton, Christian Bale and the few one-offs in between, but will evolve through the future DC films.

“It’s different in terms of tone and, obviously, just a different actor,” Affleck says of his Caped Crusader. “I think the most profound difference is that I’m playing the part at an older age than those guys were when they played it, and it’s about a guy who’s had a long life of this experience, rather than someone who’s just setting out on the journey to become this guy. He’s older and wiser, I guess. And he was pretty pissed off in Batman v Superman, but now it’s not about finding revenge in Justice League, it’s about protecting the Earth. So the feel is different.”
